Horseless dressage rider - total longshot here as I’m looking for something quite specific, but feel free to pass along. Looking for a safe, sane horse, older schoolmaster gelding would be ideal - 16.2 or larger (I am 6’ tall.) I am admittedly out of riding shape at the moment as I’ve not been able to ride consistently for over a year, however I am dedicated, responsible, have references, and work in the horse industry. I have my USDF rider certificate at 1st level, have shown 2nd and schooled 3rd. Looking to ride a couple times a week, willing to travel within 30 miles of Colora, MD 21917.

I bet your college equestrian team/barn would be a great resource when it comes to finding some extra rides! I’ve seen those Sweet Briar brochures!

Horseless Rider- Newnan, GA - Adv. Intermediate

Responsible 27yo adult, mother of two, seeking some saddle time. Hoping to find someone local whose horse(s) may need an extra leg up/exercising/miles put on them. Have experience as a equine vet tech and assistant barn manager, and have handled everything from foals to stallions. Financial constraints mean I don’t have the extra cash for lessons, but would be willing to trade stable work for riding for the right situation. Competent with quiet hands on the flat and have jumped up to 2’6", but I haven’t ridden in the last year due to having a baby (but I worked hard, and am back in pre-baby shape :winkgrin:). Presentation is a big deal to me, so be confident that your horses will be finely groomed and barn aisles cleanly swept.

Horseless rider in Gloucester County, NJ

Adult rider that has been out of the saddle for about a year, and out of consistent riding for a couple years. I just really miss it. Financially I can’t afford to lease or pay for lessons (I am keeping a retired horse). I was hoping to find a horse close by that just needed an extra ride once or twice a week. Older but sound for light riding would be perfect. Larger 16+ hands, draft breeds would be great as I am out of shape and admitting have to drop some weight. My experience has been dressage (up to first level) the last years of my riding, with a bit of hunters in the beginning, but I am open to any discipline. Would be willing to do some feedings, clean tack, stalls, etc in exchange. Just want something safe to get back in some riding shape. References available.

Life is getting the best of me at the moment and I need someone to ride my 9 year old mare. She’s big (17.1ish) and beautiful but has not done much in the past year due to my life circumstances. We’ve dabbled mostly in jumpers and have done some eventing clinics. She’s super fun to ride, but can sensitive some days so would prefer an experienced rider. I am a just-turned-26-year-old moving down to Charleston in mid-December. I competed 3’ hunters and eq during my junior years, jumped up to 3’6" at home, but have not ridden much at all since going to college. I am starting out freelancing, so my schedule will be flexible, and I so miss my equine friends (er, and would love to make new human friends down South, too!).

I’m 5’2" and petite, so I can ride ponies and horses, and would actually prefer sticking to the shorter side. Really just want to hack out and get my seat back, but I’m happy to do anything. Rode a little western in my youth, love trails, love love love playing on the flat and over fences. My children’s horse was a 16.1hh Thoroughbred who very much enjoyed testing me, so I’m game.

I would like to find someone to partially lease my 15 yo OTTB on my farm. He has been sitting bored for way too long. He is an amazing mover but needs a lightweight rider. Would excel in dressage with the right rider. Was started over fences but doesn’t seem to enjoy it.
He is 16.1 hands, black bay with a white star, with great bone ( more old school tb than compared to the lightweight fine boned tbs today)
Available for short to long term lease on my farm only with competition allowance at lessor’s expense. My farm has small dressage ring, cross country course being built and lots of trails. Stalls also available for full care boarding.

Aroostook County, Maine - riderless (or under-ridden) horses

Now that we have three horses, we could use more hours in the day to keep them in riding shape!

Not sure if there are many COTHers way up in our area, but if you have a dressage/eventing background, quiet hands, and confident horse-handling skills, feel free to get in touch.

We have the following horses:

• a 19-year-old, 17.2 hand Percheron, bombproof as the day is long, knows basic aids and working on learning lateral aids and dressage
• a 15-year-old, 15.2 hand OTTB lower-level eventer, excellent mover but a bit of a sensitive ride
• a 27-year-old, 14.3 hand Appy who mostly totes around our younger family members for very beginner rides, but could use an occasional more advanced ride with a lighter rider to stay in shape

In winter, we’re doing well if we ride 1-2 times per week, so each horse could easily have a few more rides with the right match. If you’re interested in riding in exchange for helping out with the horses, let us know.

We’re located in Caribou, about 25 minutes from Presque Isle or an hour from Fort Kent or Houlton.

Riderless horse in Chester County/Malvern, PA

Looking for someone to lease my 8 year old 16.2 TB gelding. Off-Site full free lease. He has shown many times in the 3’6" rated jumpers with success and a show record over the past 3 years. He tries super hard. He has been out of consistent training for some time, but will need a month or two to get back up into showing condition. He needs an experienced confident rider that can guide him and be firm. He has a super soft mouth and will not ever pull, but is spirited and needs patience while schooling. He is a wonderful talented horse, but strictly my financial situation prohibits me from showing him and furthering his training.

Riderless Horses: Jacksonville, FL

I have 3 horses that I’m needing help getting rode. Two are beginner/intermediate friendly. One is for a more advanced rider. I ride western, but 2 out of the 3 horses can also go English, I’m sure the other can as well.

I live nearby to 3 state parks with trails if you’re looking to trail ride and can haul to them when I’m available. If you are looking to show I’m fine with that as well and can provide hauling.

Cici is a 17 year old APHA mare who’s 15h and stocky built with a very cute coloring and build. She has been there and done that from barrel racing to English Equitation to Hunter O/F and even low level jumping. She is very well trained but has been ridden by kids the most lately so a bit of a refresher is probably needed just to get her going supple and soft again. She trail rides like a dream.

Cuervo is an 11 year old 15’2 AQHA palomino gelding. He’s a very well broke rope horse. I know he’s a head horse, not sure about heel but I know he’s won quite a few jackpots locally. I don’t rope, so I have no personal experience. He’s a nice quiet ride and a bit more laid back. Very sweet. I do Civil War Reenacting on him and he’s pretty darn bombproof! He trail rides like a dream too. I could really use someone who is willing to keep him in shape more than anything. He’s the only one I’m not sure of English on simply because he’s not fond of pressure in his mouth. Definitely a seat/leg cued horse, neck reins very well. I have competed in ACTHA rides on him and we have placed very well in the Open Division.

Jaeger is a 6 year old 16h AQHA horse who is probably one of the nicest horses in terms of potential I’ve swung a leg over. I’ve had him since he’s been 2 and I have done 90% of his training. He does have a bit of temper but it’s easily handled if you are a quiet and confident rider and becomes nonexistant with consistent work. Lots of speed and he loves to go. He has a nice natural form O/F and is very brave. I haven’t done much jumping with him, just a bit of playing around but he has gone up to 2’9" with no issues with a friend just doing arena work (no shows). He’s solid at a W/T, but he needs work on his canter. He wants to rush and pull through not to be mean but simply because he enjoys running and speed. A nice, quiet and effective rider is definitely needed for him. He does have leg/seat/verbal cues that are wonderful at the walk/trot, but once again the issue is at the canter. He’s a nice horse to trail ride as well except for his canter skills. Jaeger is just at the point that he is requiring consistent work to finish him out and as it stands right now, I don’t have the time. He DOES get much better at the canter with consistent work (when I was able to do it), especially in an arena setting. Could use work on collection as well and impulsion through the hind end.

I know it’s a long shot, but I could really use the help at this point.
