Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Need Some Extra Help Exercising Horses - Aldie VA

We could use some extra help keeping our horses fit. If you are interested and have had previous horse ownership experience, feel free to PM me. We have trails for hacking out, a ring, and some cross country jumps. We would like to find someone who can come out two or three times a week at a minimum. The horses are kept on our property and have great manners and training.

Horseless Rider - WNC (Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Tryon)

40 year old seeks saddle time. A looong time ago I had a pretty successful junior career and rode IHSA in college. Did the WS thing for a couple of years, decided a horse career was not for me and got a desk job.

Was a trail rider for years but had to retire my old guy a couple years ago. I have been actively taking lessons again for the past 2 years, but changing financial situations have forced me to give that up.

Although my background is largely H/J I am absolutely open to other disciplines, including just hacking out. I am comfortable on a greenie, but please know that I am not a trainer! I have brought young horses along, but always under the supervision/guidance of a trainer.

Along with riding I bring to the table mad poop-scoopin, bucket scrubbin, tack cleanin, and general labor skills that I am not afraid to use!

Horseless rider in Seattle, WA

Hey! I am one of the people who started this thread back in the day. Glad to see it’s still going.

Horseless rider in Seattle, WA. I’m intermediate hunter/jumper but it’s been about 2 years since I’ve ridden more than bareback. I’d be more than happy to help out with barn work even if you don’t have a spare horse… I’m sorely missing the ponies. :frowning:

Hunter Jumper Rider Needs Horsie- Palos Verdes/Los Angeles Area

Hi all!

I’ll be graduating in May and moving back to the area. I had horses on the hill for about ten years, and did a few A shows, mostly in the equitation and jumpers. I’ve been at Centenary in NJ, where I am the Hunter Jumper Team Captain and ride at the Open level. I would love something to school/jump around but would be equally happy to trot around the trails bareback.

Contact me if you have anything! I’d probably even be fine with a donkey or a sturdy cow :lol:

Free lease/ exercise rider

Does anyone know of or have any horses/ponies that need to be ridden a few times a week in Central NJ? Does not need to be anything special or fancy, ideally a situation where we both need the exercise. No pay needed, and I would be willing to come and ride the horse on your schedule. I am 5 ft tall and 110 pounds, and have experience in the hunters and eq. I have ridden many green ponies as young a 3, and have been riding for 9 years. I have experience working in a horse barn and would take the time to groom, bathe, clip, whatever was necessary. Please let me know if you or someone you know might work. Thanks!

Free “part lease,” 1-2 rides/week 4yo AWB mare Chester County, PA

I have a lovely hunter/jumper prospect that I am bringing along that could use 1-2 extra rides per week, primarily flat work. I have taken on more responsibility at work and have found I can do 4 rides per week pretty well but she could really go 5-6 days.

Mare is 16.1h and just 4. She is w/t/c leg yields, started lateral work and over fences. She is smart and athletic, a forward moving horse but not hot. No spook, buck, rear, or stop. I am not asking for any money, you just need to be a reliable, qualified rider and comfortable with a young, green horse. I board at a lovely facility with an indoor and lots of places to hack out. It would be great if you were interested in taking lessons. We have a trainer that comes onsite 2 days per week but I would also consider you using yours.

Horse near Athens/Commerce, GA

I have a fabulous 16.3hh imported Dutch WB gelding that could use an extra rider. Must have a Dressage background and be a quiet, confident rider. Horse has been trained to 4th level, but has trust issues and requires a sensitive but firm touch. He doesn’t buck or bolt, but has been known to rear on occasion. Is incredibly talented, but was pushed too fast and too hard and subsequently has issues relating to people trying to force him into a frame.
Interested? Message me and come meet him. He’s a good guy, just needs the right person.

Horseless Rider-- Richmond/Charlottesville, VA area

Long shot but figured it couldn’t hurt to post here in case someone has something…

Experienced but timid middle aged adult rider seeks quiet, safe, been there done that, confidence builder type for flatwork-- have done h/j and dressage but I’m not really interested in jumping anymore. I’m responsible and have owned my own horses for years, this is the first time I’ve been horseless in a long time (well, I do still have a mini and a pony but can’t ride either of them!) Would consider anything from an occasional ride to a half lease or anything in between. This would be a great gig for someone’s semi retired horse that needs to stay in light work.

Exercise rider for intermediate-experienced rider near SE PA

I recently injured my shoulder and will need to limit or potentially stop riding for a time. I am looking for a rider that is at least an intermediate or experienced rider as the horse is still green. He is a 6 yr old TB even though I am looking for a more experienced rider he is a very calm and mellow horse and would trust him with a beginner but need a rider to continue with his training. He has not vices and has no training issues.

Any english riding discipline is welcome but I plan on showing the horse in hunters. But I am open to dressage, jumpers and eventing riders.

I am currently working on bending, suppleness, straightness, ground poles, lengthening and shortening stride. He does get a little fast when being asked to canter and has trouble picking up the right lead canter. I would want the rider to continue working him under saddle.

He has no vices, can be worked indoors or out and taken around the property. You are welcome to take lessons and show on him as well.

Please fell free to PM me or email me at bluecharm7@hotmail.com.

Future Horseless Rider in Morgantown WV

This is probably a long shot but here goes nothing!

I’m going to be a grad student at WVU in the fall and am looking for a horse (aka some sanity!) starting either mid june or mid july. I’m a dressage rider, very classical oriented with a quiet seat/hands – i’d consider myself intermediate/advanced. i’ve been on some crazies but can be a timid rider due to time away from riding. Have schooled shoulder-in legyields haunches in, etc

Looking for a least 1-2x weeks to start , within 30 minutes of Morgantown WV. Prefer free lease (poor college student) but would be willing to do some barn chores in exchange on weekends or work something out. Please let me know if you know of any horses!

Horseless Rider in SE PA

Middle aged re-rider with a background in Dressage and Hunting. I’m looking for a possible free lease/half lease, or just saddle time if that’s a possibility. I’ve been out of the horse business for about 3 years, and haven’t ridden in about 6. Before that I was a groom, rider, and manager within my career, and now I’m just looking for a low key, fun riding opportunity.

A laid back semi retired guy would be great, or someone’s hunt horse that they don’t want sitting around over the summer. I prefer to hack out, but will also do ring work. Trips to the local parks would be ideal, as would just legging up or keeping up a horse’s fitness level. I love to groom, and always keep things tidy. I’m 5’ 8’ so no ponies, but I love TB’s!

PM me if you think we could be a match!

Horseless Rider - Northern NJ

I’m a college student that will be home from June to early September and am looking for a free lease situation that would be willing to be off-farm. Green is fine, not really picky. Would be willing to cover all expenses for the summer. If you have anything, please send me a PM! Thanks.

Riderless Horse - Brandywine, MD

My wonderful 10 year old TB gelding will be available for a partial free lease situation to the right rider this summer.

“Charlie” is currently in a training program at an eventing barn in the DC area and is in training to be a lower level eventer. He has lots of miles at the schooling/local level hunters and jumpers (2’6-2’9), and has competed in several event derbies and 1 starter horse trial. We are aiming for beginner novice this summer. He is very ammy friendly and uncomplicated to the jumps. He has been in full time training for the last six months and is coming along very well. He loves attention and has an in-your-pocket personality on the ground. He is well-mannered and is a barn favorite among the staff and trainers. He hacks out alone or in a group and loves trail riding and cross country.

We had some time off last year and hadn’t left the property for cross country schooling in a long time (really almost 2 years), then attended the MHT Event Derby last weeekend. Charlie was an absolute champ, and handled it very well. Here are some videos:

I would like to take him out of training but don’t have time to ride him more than 3 days a week. This is where the lease comes in! He is available to ride 1-3 times a week. Lease fee is negotiable to the right rider. I will require the rider at a minimum to take weekly lessons from my trainer. If the rider wishes to ride outside of lessons, then I will charge a nominal fee for practice rides. Rider will not be responsible for any other expenses. Rider will also have the opportunity to show with the barn and attend clinics if desired.

Please PM for more details.

Free lease situations and possible free to good home if all goes well. Out of state, with references is fine.

*21 (Born Jan. 1993) yr old 15.2hh grey Arabian Mare. Currently ridden Dressage and on the trails. Has been an English Pleasure Horse and been Driven, solid show record. Looking for a dressage person that is not a beginner, she understands her job and would like you to know yours. Fun, fun mare to ride.

Appy gelding, 14.2hh, around 17 yrs old. Has been shown and done both English and Western. Looking for a trail home and someone who wants a great pal. Under direct supervision of someone experienced a beginner rider is fine. ( Horse is fine with beginners, Horse Mom wants the supervision) Sound, sane and beautiful.

Please contact for more information and pictures. Thanks!

Half lease in eastern Ma

Here is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants a nice smart horse to ride at a nice barn but can’t afford the price tag. Very nice 5 yr old gelding for half lease. Well trained on flat work and starting to do small courses. Needs a confident rider as he is still just a baby but he is as easy as they come. A real trier. Will be making his debut in the hunter ring this year. Also would be a great dressage ride if that’s what you’re looking for. This is a free lease, but I would expect some help with finances and we have a barn rule that you have to take lessons. PM me for more info.

Horseless Rider in Snohomish, WA

I am reposting mine, as it was back a ways.

I am a horseless rider in Snohomish, Washington.

I am short and petite. I can ride 11-17 hand equines, and have experience riding English and Western. I have riding ponies for years, and love the little ones!

I can walk, trot, and canter confidently, have started jumping, and know some dressage. I have also worked with young and green or naughty horses. Please send me a message if you have a horse needing some attention! Thanks

Horseless former dressage judge-east coast MD near Annapolis

Posting this for a friend.

My friend is a former r dressage judge, trainer and coach looking for a nice quiet horse to ride 1-2 times a week. Has just taken a new job with a long commute so no time for a horse of her own. Has some back issues so no greenies or renovation projects. PM me if interested.

She’s a firm believer in doing what’s best for the horse and has ridden many different breeds. Overall approach is to kindness, caring and working with the horse to bring out what’s best.
