Helen, I signed up to be a volunteer at the HSPCA and, after 20 hours of volunteer work, I am now out at the adoptable horse location helping out there. There are a lot of horses there that need attention so it sounds right up your alley. The only drawback is that the stables close around 4pm so you’d have to volunteer on weekends or weekdays.
Ah, that said, I’m horseless in Houston too and would LOVE to help work with horses that need it. I ride Dressage so prefer something along those lines (anything can benefit from low level Dressage work…well, except maybe gaited horses. :p)

I have to say, though, if anybody has a happy, well-loved oldie who is a total attention junkie, that’s more what I am looking for. Rescue and HSPCA horses, IMO, need consistent handling from consistent people, until they get their trust back. I’m not the right person for that sort of work.

Hello all,
I’m an freelance designer in the Los Angeles area of Southern California who is also an experienced rider/trainer looking for the opportunity to keep riding part time even just a day or two a week.
My background ranges from Hunter/Jumper to Eventing, but my main focus is Dressage and its application within all disciplines. I worked in the horse industry for 10+ years and with several successful trainers. I also studied at Savannah College Of Art & Design in their Equestrian Program for two years before pursuing my major in the entertainment arts. I have trained up to early 3rd level Dressage work and I am solid at 2nd level. Jumped up to 4’ but most comfortable over lower fences (2-2’6") as that’s the majority of my experience with working so many green horses over the years. I am also light enough to ride ponies at under 110lbs (and adore them and their quirky personalities!) I have in the past worked with a wide variety of breeds, ages and temperaments including starting mustangs and horses that have had minimal interaction with people. This is a great opportunity to keep your horses in shape and tuned up with an experienced individual on those days you can’t work with them.

My current lessee is going back to college and my mare could use some extra rides this spring. She is currently in Oxford, PA area but she is being moved to a farm much closer to my home in a few weeks.
Lovely dark grey 5yo WB mare, just under 16.2h. Tall but short backed so while she takes up leg not a big horse to manage. Easy to handle on the ground, well mannered under saddle. Won a bunch of local baby green stuff last year, has been working on flat work and lead changes over winter. Changes just about finished, gets them when asked. Brave to the jumps with no stop/spook/buck etc, no young horse nonsense and a good worker in the saddle. Schooling 2’6", height and jumps not a problem. Has a big step but does not drag you around. Hacks out alone or in company. Experienced rider (only due to training level) or intermediate with trainer.
Moving to a lovely farm a few miles down the road from Wyndsor Farm. Private farm with mostly adult boarders. Large, well cared for indoor ring with great footing, nice outdoor for use during better weather as well. Individual tack lockers. No in house trainer but Melvin Dutton comes in a few times per month or bring your own. Showing opportunities available for the right rider. No lease fee, just half of care which is very reasonably priced for the area. Ride 2-3 days per week.

I relocated to Florida last summer for work and was riding and teaching at a small farm in Fort Lauderdale in my spare time. A job change is making the commute to Ft Lauderdale too much.

“Odette” is a sweet, very uncomplicated mare to ride with three good gaits with excellent leg yields, trot/canter lengthening, and stretchy trot. She has shown at Training and First Levels with scores up to 69%. She has schooled through 3rd level but due to slight arthritic changes she is happier working at the lower levels. She has worked successfully at first level the past few months and is sound doing this work. She has a great mind, can be ridden out in the field and hacked out on trails in a group or alone. She would do best with an amateur rider looking to learn dressage. She trailers, ties, stands well for the farrier/vet, loves horse shows, and has no vices. She prefers at least all day turnout, either alone or in a group. She is currently located right outside of the Research Triangle area in NC but lease can be off site or out of state.

Horseless Rider in SE Michigan
After a short break from riding to finish my Ph.D., I’d like to get back in the saddle for a few months before moving. Willing to ride/half lease/lesson. I’m 5’4"/5’5", ~110lb so fit on basically anything.
My past two leases were on low adult jumpers and I’d love to continue in the jumper ring, but I’ve ridden everything from straight of the track tbs to bratty ponies. Would prefer it to be somewhat local to Ann Arbor as my car does not handle snow very well!
