Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Looking to help out in a stable, work with horses etc in Loudoun County

Trying to kill a few birds with one stone here:

  1. I recently relocated to Loudoun Co. (Purcellville), and would like to meet people, and what better people than equiphiles?

  2. Haven’t done anything horsey since I sold mine in 2010, and miss being around horses. Change in career precludes my ever owning again, but I’d like to keep horses in my life somehow. I have spent many years riding and working with horses, so I am not a beginner, but have never competed, so I don’t have a wall or ribbons to point to to prove my ‘expertise’.

I really like working with young horses - teaching basic manners, ground-work. Have experience with round-pens, clicker training, and various other techniques. I bought a completely un-handled yearling. Taught her to lead, stand tied, pick up her feet and all the ground-manner type stuff, and successfully backed her. I enjoyed every minute of it, would love to help someone with their youngsters.

I am in late-middle-age, and I am very quiet, low-key, no-drama person, about as far from a primadonna as one can get.

I do not have any particular need to be astride, and I am so rusty, I’d wouldn’t want to mount anything other than a school-master (though in my day I was a fearless rider and loved hot horses). If you did have a horse that needs exercise, I’d be happy to give it a shot. I have plenty of experience with difficult horses.

And while I am not adverse to manual labor, I am not looking for a “working student” arrangement, and back issues restrict extensive stall-cleaning, hay-hauling etc type tasks.

Right now I am unemployed (by choice) so my schedule is flexible.

Thanks for reading!

Rider-less Horse Younstown, NY (WESTERN NEW YORK)

Looking for someone to ride my 11 year old quarter horse mare 1-2 times per week. With a 6 month old baby at home, I am only able to ride 1-2 times a week at most.

15.2 hands, w/t/c trails. She is a forward ride, with a great stop. Quiet, sensible and sweet. Does require a good seat with quiet hands. I have been doing basic arena riding with her (dressage) and taking her out on the trials. She will go alone, or with a buddy. She is learning to stetch long and low, some lateral work and to really work inside leg to outside rein. She was a brood mare for a couple of years and sat idle before I bought her.

Located in Youngstown, NY. Large indoor, outdoor, trails. Not looking for any money, just a good rider looking for some barn time. Thanks

Horseless Rider MA (North Shore)

Hi all,
I’ve posted here before but I thought I’d give it another shot as it’s been awhile. I’m currently a senior attending college on MA’s North Shore and am looking for a situation where I can get some more riding time in. I’m an open rider on my school’s Equestrian Team and did the Children’s Hunters and Eq back when I was a junior. I’ve schooled up to 3’6-3’9 and am pretty confident with green horses. I’d love to find a horse to hack around a few times a week and I’m totally willing to help out if need be or pay for an occasional lesson if the situation is what I’m looking for. If you know of anything, please let me know!

horse less rider in western WA

I’m in western WA and am looking to lease a trail horse for the summer until my youngster is up and going regularly. Breed not important but needs to be trustworthy and not spooky. I’m only 5’5" and weigh about 135. Would prefer a gelding. Great home with other horse friends provided. Anyone?

Horseless (sort of) Rider in Washington, D.C.

Hello, looking for a horse to lease/show that is uncomplicated. Don’t care if they are green or not, just would love a horse with the potential to move up to 3’ hunters.

I am 5’8 with an electric butt so no speedy TBs please (I already have a geriatric one!).

Horses need riders – Orange, VA near Charlottesville

I have riderless horses who would love some entertainment for 1/2 or full lease (or in exchange for barn work) with various talents for experienced riders. One is a friesian dressage schoolmaster, 1 holsteiner ex-eventer, 1 TB ex-hunter, a couple with limited dressage experience (2 friesian, 1 TB). Have indoor, outdoor (useless at the moment) and trails (also unusable at the moment). email or pm.

Horseless adult rider in northern NJ

Hi everyone! I am iso a horse or horses that need some exercise or work. I have a lot of experience with greenies, problem horses and reschooling ottbs. Unfortunately being a grad student I currently can’t afford to own or lease right now. Will travel about an hour and will train with your trainer if you like. I primarily ride hunter/jumpers but am open to anything. I am really missing having a horse to spoil and ride. Hopefully someone is looking for a rider. Thanks in advance and hope to hear from someone soon!

Horseless Rider - Charlotte, NC

I’m 27 and have been riding since I was 6, first hunters, then jumpers, and now I have found a love for eventing. I’m in a lesson program with a German and US certified trainer twice a week, thinking about having a half lease for 3 days a week but currently unsure. I’m thinking I could really benefit from riding an seasoned eventer that could show me some of the ropes and build some confidence especially in dressage.

I’m a very quiet rider, very laid back. I’m 5’7" and 145 lbs. Thanks!

Part or half lease considered (inexpensive). Showing possible for the right candidate.

Horseless Rider on Long Island NY

Hello there!

Horseless Rider in Southeast

Amateur rider in veterinary school in looking to free lease horse to get in shape/put miles on in Memphis, TN from May-July (3 mo) when on rotation break.

Would love a horse who could do some shows over the summer. This situation would be perfect for a young horse with an owner who doesn’t have time to put it in the baby green/pregeen ring, or an older schoolmaster who is happier with a job.

Extensive experience in hunter ring (most recently A/O hunters and some jumpers) and 2 seasons eventing.

I have a few green, but good, horses who need a few extra rides a week. I have trouble getting all of them ridden. A couple of them are good to hack and jump a bit. Rider must be comfortable with youngsters and have quiet hands. Located in Ocala, FL.

Horseless Rider in Alabama

Looking for a free lease situation on a jumper prospect. Currently riding a green Hunter prospect, but would like to get back into the jumper ring. Advanced beginner/intermediate rider with previous experience in low level eventing, schooling hunters, and schooling jumpers. I consider myself a soft and patient rider. Would continue to be in a weekly lesson program and hoping to actively show 1m and lower for now.

Located in Auburn, AL.

Riderless Horse in Ocala, FL

I have a fantastic TB gelding, 18h, looking for rides in Ocala. I am looking for an intermediate-advanced rider. Horse has had experience in hunters/jumpers/eventing and when I can pull myself together - dressage (oh, how I struggle, ha!).

Horse has never had a bad day in his life, is extremely willing, extremely talented. He is out of work only because of events that happened in my life.

I know this is a vague posting but there’s too much to type. If you think you are interested, please let me know. I’d like to see if we can work something out.

Also, there is a not-so-great photo of horse in my profile. Better than nothing, I guess!

Wonderful lesson horse looking for a new home and job in the Toronto area
Exceptional 1995 thoroughbred gelding available for lease or sale with first rights buy back option. We love this guy, but being away at school is preventing him from being ridden consistently. He loves to work and it would be a shame for all his talent and training to go to waste when he could be teaching a beginner or intermediate Hunter/ jumper /equitation rider the ropes. He has competed in the open jumpers at A shows as a younger man and recently has excelled in the .90 jumpers and equitation classes. Would be a wonderful addition to any lesson program. Always sound, easy keeper, kick ride, very safe. Will only go to an approved home in the toronto area. Please contact me for more information, videos, vet records. Thanks.

Horseless Rider in Denver, CO

I am a young adult, who will be living in Denver, CO for the summer and leaving behind my lease on an absolutely fantastic eventing TB. I would love to continue riding in the Denver area over the summer. Most of my experience is in the English disciplines (eventing), but I love to ride Western as well, and would be happy riding any discipline (jumping, dressage, trail riding, pleasure hacks, Western pleasure, barrels)! I will have a very flexible schedule and so would be able to help exercise and care for any horses that might be “under-employed” this summer. I also have references, as I know it can be hard to trust a stranger with your horse! I am 26, 5’4" 125lbs.

Let me know if you or anyone you know has an underemployed horse this summer! I could also keep a sale prospect in work while its in the process of being sold.

Would you recommend him for an advanced beginner to intermediate rider? I’m very confident, know my gaits just need a bit of practice. I don’t mind big friendly horses as long as they don’t have a tendency to maybe run away with someone outside the ring. I do have riding videos if you would like to see them.

I don’t get scared if a horse runs away with me either, I am simply relieved when they stop, perhaps by my car near the field or barn.

I enjoy grooming horses to look their best, so probably a good idea if the horse enjoys being groomed without being distracted by hay to eat or being tied up.
