Looking to help out in a stable, work with horses etc in Loudoun County
Trying to kill a few birds with one stone here:
-
I recently relocated to Loudoun Co. (Purcellville), and would like to meet people, and what better people than equiphiles?
-
Haven’t done anything horsey since I sold mine in 2010, and miss being around horses. Change in career precludes my ever owning again, but I’d like to keep horses in my life somehow. I have spent many years riding and working with horses, so I am not a beginner, but have never competed, so I don’t have a wall or ribbons to point to to prove my ‘expertise’.
I really like working with young horses - teaching basic manners, ground-work. Have experience with round-pens, clicker training, and various other techniques. I bought a completely un-handled yearling. Taught her to lead, stand tied, pick up her feet and all the ground-manner type stuff, and successfully backed her. I enjoyed every minute of it, would love to help someone with their youngsters.
I am in late-middle-age, and I am very quiet, low-key, no-drama person, about as far from a primadonna as one can get.
I do not have any particular need to be astride, and I am so rusty, I’d wouldn’t want to mount anything other than a school-master (though in my day I was a fearless rider and loved hot horses). If you did have a horse that needs exercise, I’d be happy to give it a shot. I have plenty of experience with difficult horses.
And while I am not adverse to manual labor, I am not looking for a “working student” arrangement, and back issues restrict extensive stall-cleaning, hay-hauling etc type tasks.
Right now I am unemployed (by choice) so my schedule is flexible.
Thanks for reading!
