Still Riderless-ish horse, Pinellas FL
So all these months later I still don’t get enough time to ride and everyone who’s shown interest either ends up being too far… or like me: just too busy!
A few details have changed, so a complete repost:
First, what I’m looking for:
A solid at least intermediate rider who can work with a horse toward same goals my trainer and I are working toward, and also have fun. Someone who would love to be able to ride but can’t afford their own horse right now. Under 18 is fine but would need to meet parents/sign some things. Before I was looking for someone to share her care as well, and while that’s still partially true, she is (for now) on full board so stall cleaning, etc isn’t really needed. This may change. I have an 18" A/P saddle the rider would be welcome to use, especially since she’s quite difficult to fit. Helmet is 100% not-negotiable a MUST (barn/insurance rules), and I have a size 7 to use. My only booked riding days are lessons on Friday evenings… any other day is fine to come out to ride.
Second, the horse!
She’s a 15 year old, 15-hand black Morgan/Percheron cross. Lots of hairy floof, and in my humble and totally unbiased opinion an absolutely stunning horse. Very wide, heavy, and short-backed so can accommodate a taller or heavier rider. She has done it all – from trails to jumping to driving – but was quite spoiled so the last several months has been reminding her of what she knows. She’s leaps and bounds better now, but is strong…and fast. Good solid collected walk/trot. Canter is still very rushed and big, but we’re working on consistency more than slow - especially on the right lead. She’s not out of control or anything… just fast! I say she likes to show her laziness by rushing into everything, and tries to anticipate what you’re going to ask her to do (I’m told this is her Morgan side). She’s brave and will go through anything you point her at (loves to swim!). She has no buck or rear that I’ve experienced, no bad habits, and is absolutely perfect grooming, clipping, tying, washing, feet, etc etc (I’d trust her with a total beginner learning to do all those things… just too strong for a beginner rider!)
Last, the stable!
Casual barn with a very big arena, grass jump field, dressage ring, and obstacle (trail) course. Not a super fancy or pretty place but all the amenities of one. Trails are close by but still need to be hauled to. Some more trails are supposed to be opening surrounding the barn, but not sure of all the details there. Evening fun shows happen through the hot months and starting in the winter we have a small open show series with high-point prizes at the end of the season.
