Riderless horses in WV’s eastern panhandle
I have a couple of horses I would be willing to free lease off the farm to qualified individuals with references within 45 mins of Martinsburg, WV.
Both horses have been turned out for quite some time and will need a bit of reschooling to get them back in shape and in a routine - I just don’t have the time for them.
The first, Steel, is a 15 year old grey Quarter Horse mare who stands about 15.2hh. I’ve used this horse in beginner walk/trot lessons - her trot is very smooth and she was very forgiving to typical beginner errors, though it takes a bit more aggressive rider to get her to canter. She has jumped 2’ courses under saddle, but has free jumped over 4’ so she could definitely handle higher fences - personally, I’m just comfortable with 2’-2’6. She clips, ties, loads, bathes, and stands for the farrier. Very easy keeper, with excellent feet.
The second, Sassy, is a 14 year old chestnut Appaloosa mare who stands about 13.2-14 hands (I need to measure). Sass is an excellent candidate for pony club/4H, but requires a strong child or small junior/adult rider. She will walk/trot/canter, trail ride, and jump small fences (I’ve never done more than cross rails with her, but she could easily jump 2’-2’6 with some work). Very friendly, in-your-pocket personality. She is an easy keeper with great feet - no shoes required and minimal trimming. She clips, ties, loads, bathes, and stands for the farrier.
I have pictures available if anyone’s interested. Please PM me with any questions.
