Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Horseless rider in Los Angeles

I lost 2 horses in succession over the summer and don’t have the heart to search for a new horse buddy at the moment. However, I have continued to take weekly dressage lessons and catch rides about 3-4 times a week.Though I’m able to ride regularly outside of lessons at my instructor’s barn, I’d love a horse I could hack out on the trail and work in the arena for fun! No need for a dressage horse - I’d be thrilled to ride a fun, spicy guy/gal who could use a little more attention and doesn’t mind a dressage saddle. I love an OTTB, am down with green horses, live in west LA, and my schedule is flexible.

Please PM with questions or details!

Horseless Rider in Central/Southern CA

Recently lost my heart horse and I’m looking for something to ride or buy for cheap/on a payment plan. I brought my mare along from an unshown 6 year old problem horse schooling 2ft to showing 1m. I don’t mind green at all, just want something sound with potential.

I’m a patient, determined rider who always puts the horse first. Just looking to continue my rider career and fill the void. Please PM me if you have anything.

Riding Opportunity in Ashburn - Aldie Area (Loudoun Co. VA)

I have a great level-headed gelding who is tons of fun and uncomplicated. He is an 11 year old uphill and athletically built QH. I am looking for someone who would like to ride a few days a week and in return help pay for shoeing. He jumps cross-country in a hackamore, and trail rides alone in a halter. He has competed in a schooling HT, CT, and jumper show. Always in the ribbons.

Dressage and jumping lessons available from excellent local trainers.

Opportunities to show at schooling shows when we go.

A small or medium sized or tall adult would work best. Close to Ashburn/South Riding/Brambleton.

Feel free to PM me.

Riderless Horses in Northeast Mississippi

I have a good friend in Starkville, MS looking for a rider. She has several nice horses and not enough time to ride them all! She has her own farm with a stadium course, many xc jumps and a dressage arena. My friend would love to have someone to ride with (since I abandoned her and moved to New England) and to potentially go to shows with.

Horses include
-16 yr TB novice packer with training miles
-6 yr TB schooling BN, very fancy on the flat and good jumper
-two 5 yr old OTTBs, both doing xrails currently, both very safe and level headed

If you or anyone you know is interested, please email me at maryohear@gmail.com. Thank you!

Horseless Rider: Winchester VA (Frederick County, VA, Berryville, Purcellville, Clarke Co, Charles Town WV areas)

Mid 30s adult re-rider looking for a riderless horse. I’m 5’5 and 150 lbs with a short leg, so I can fit on large ponies also. I’ve owned horses my whole life until I got divorced a few years ago. I grew up primarily in hunters doing rated and local shows, but dabbled in jumpers and foxhunting. I’ve retrained several OTTB babies (as recently as 3 years ago), and comfortably jumped 3’6, so lets say I’m relatively experienced, but have not ridden in a long time. When riding fit, I have a soft hand and seat and quiet leg (can provide videos if needed). About 12 years ago I managed a farm w/ 60 horses and a major lesson program, and 4 years ago assisted riding and taking care of the farm at a race stable, so I know my way around a farm and a horse. I’m happy to contribute to a partial lease if owner would like, or to do farm chores on weekends to relieve burden. Please PM me or email linzparker@gmail.com with any opportunities. Thanks

Riderless Horse in Bucks County, PA

I have a couple of project horses taking up a lot of my time, so I’m casually looking for someone to help me keep my older guy in shape. He is a 19yo OTTB with some mild hock arthritis. He can do lower level dressage very well, and can and will still jump over smaller jumps, both in and out of the ring, though at this point in his life he shouldn’t jump too high or too often. He also loves trail rides and can hack out alone or with a group. We have an nice large outdoor ring, a round pen, and some small trails; as well as lots of opportunities to trailer out to the bucks county horse park, or to an indoor in the winter.

Zach is a forward thinking horse, a big mover, and very light and sensitive to the aids, so he prefers a balanced rider with light hands. He is very well schooled and taught me a lot about riding, I’m hoping he can do the same for someone else. He is not spooky, and has no rear or bolt. He has a custom-fitted saddle that you would need to ride him in. Here is a link to an imgur album of him: https://imgur.com/a/sz3vh

If you’d like more info, or to come meet him or try him out, please pm me, or email me at: herecomeszach@gmail.com

I’m a first level dressage rider in Clayton, taking a lesson per week and need more saddle time. 47 years old, reasonably fit. Not picky about horse’s size, discipline, breed, or level. I mainly need to get more riding stamina. I have owned my own horses and was a vet tech for many years, including a couple of stints at large animal teaching hospitals, know my way around horses. Please email at emerines@gmail.com if you might have a horse that could use extra rides.

I am in the southern Chicago area. I have many years of riding under my belt, but right now I am just looking to spend some time around a horse on the ground. i am comfortable with minis up to drafts. I need to get in better shape before I get on a horse, but I desperately missing doing ground work and just the smell of a horse. Do you love to ride but hate to do ground work? Would you like someone to take your horse out for a good grooming on days you can’t make it out to the barn. I would love to balance out your training. meleroy@att.net

Horseless rider in Toronto,Ontario, Canada

I’m a first level dressage rider. Euthanized my gelding in November and looking to get back jn the saddle after time off.

27 years old, tall, fit mature adult who will travel. I have owned my own horse and will treat (read spoil) yours like my own. I am a giant so I prefer a mount 16.2hh+ but ultimately I really just want to ride again.

Ideally looking for something that also has an in house lesson program. I do not show and like to trail ride on occasion. I am willing to travel up to an hour radius from Toronto.

Please email at allison.klein91@gmail.com if you might have a horse that could use extra rides.

Horseless rider in northern Virginia.

I’m looking to get back into riding after a long break. Former equitation/show jumper rider, qualified and showed at Medal, Washington and Maclay finals my last two years as a junior, including 2nd place Maclay regionals, 7th place USET West, and winning VHSA 3’6" medal and horsemanship. Working student with Karen Healey, used to riding various different types, very capable with horse care as well, I always groomed for myself.

My ideal situation would be hacking an individuals horse once a week, I’m out of practice but really miss it. Thanks, please message with any questions!

Horseless in Central Ma

I haven’t ridden in the past five years due to losing my horse and pregnancy. I have a very strong classical dressage background. Ideally I would like to find something I can ride a few days a week with a very occassional weekend clinic.
or if you have a horse to sell I would be happy to ride more often and advertise for you. I have ridden through the Grand Prix and trained my own horse to I2.
Pleaae feel free to PM me for a video of my riding.

Sent you an email!

Horseless rider in Western Chicago suburbs. Located in the Naperville area, comfortable/willing to drive 30-50 minutes in any direction.

I lost my horse due to post-colic surgery incident back in October. I’ve ridden sporadically since so am not entirely out of riding shape, but would like to have the opportunity to ride a little more without the immediate pressure of lessons/showing (or leasing/purchasing).

I’ve shown through first level, trained a horse through second with some third level movements. Have experience riding a fourth level horse through fourth level movements (though not in a double) and have experience in rehabilitating horses who have been off for significant periods of time and are just coming back into work. I’m comfortable with hot/forward/temperamental horses. In full disclosure, I am a taller rider - smaller horses/ponies are probably not going to be super comfortable carrying me so likely not a good fit for something smaller than 15’2 unless it’s very large framed.

If you’re looking for an attentive horse person with a quieter, patient personality I might be a good fit. I would be more than happy to discuss suitability - feel free to PM here - will be happy to provide email to discuss further that way if it’s more convenient.

Riderless Horse (possibly horses) in Los Angeles Area Ca

18 year old Andalusian Arabian Cross gelding, registered half Andalusian . His owner has sustained a major back injury and is unable to ride or care much for him until (or if, unfortunately) she heals. He is currently under my care with full permission for use. However I will pass anyone interested directly by the owner as well. I’m trying to get him out but I have 2 of my own to take care of as well. Needs intermediate or better CONFIDANT rider. Some dressage training, mounted sheriff and search and rescue experience. As can be typical of his breeds he is hot and forward. But he has not been spooky at all so far on trail (he has done parades as a sheriff horse, I wouldn’t expect him to be scared of much). Personality to spare, kind of a goof. Potential to be tons of fun and I hate seeing him sit in a stall.

Access to my other two horses can be discussed with the right person. But primarily looking for help with the boy above.

Horseless rider in San Francisco Bay area

I’m posting for a very dear friend who is not a COTH member.

"I am an experienced adult amateur rider who is looking for a fun horse to lease. My primary horse passion is eventing/jumping, but I’d be happy doing only flatwork as well if that is what is available. I don’t have breed/type preferences, but the horse should be tall enough for a 5’9 woman. I live in San Francisco, so within an hour of SF would be great.

My riding experience: plenty of lessons and leasing in recent years. Rode consistently growing up and owned my own horses until high school. I will take excellent care of your horse and prioritize their well-being. I am solidly in the adult amateur category, but like to think that I am skilled enough to keep the horse going pretty well.

Price is negotiable, but if I can spend $350 or less it would be great.

You can reach me at rmondics@gmail.com"

I’ll add my own plug here. My friend is a lovely person who will take the very best care of your horse. Her best features as a rider are patience, humility, positive attitude, and soft hands. She actually leased my Grand Prix dressage horse for about 1.5 years, and learned a lot from him. I would not trust just anyone with him so I hope that’s a strong endorsement.

Looking for a rider for a petite 15.3 hand mare. Someone confident jumping…horse doesn’t require a particularly skilled rider, just a confident one! Must be willing to have an AEF membership (for insurance). Indoor/outdoor arena.
