I just wanted to add that because of this thread I have a wonderful person working with me and my horse…It is amazing what COTH brings together…
Thank you
horseless in Central New York
I’ve been “catch riding” for several years and I’m looking for a horse to ride in south eastern Syracuse
I have months of experience riding school masters doing a mix of advanced skills, but consider myself “confirmed through beginning 2nd level”
I’m next to the 4-H center in Wakefield, VA with loads and loads of trails. I get home on the weekends and need to get my Civil War Cavalry horse in shape and have a green Standardbred in need of milage but nobody to ride with. Let me know if that is doable for you. Regards, Marci Drewry 757-371-5056
17 year old JR looking for a min. 4th level dressage horse for free lease. I am ready to train on a horse that might be a little “green” or “rusty” and needs show experience as I ride a fairly hot and not always the most confident 6 year old Hanoverian. I will pay for vet/farrier/joint injections. Horse would be in training with USDF bronze, silver, and gold medallist. I am a very dedicated JR and serious about dressage. My main goal with this horse would be to compete for a place on the NAJYRC JR or YR team. Just so you know, please PM me if you are interested as I don’t have time to check other posts! Thanks for reading and have a blessed day!
Horseless Rider on Long Island, NY (posting for a friend)
My friend just retired her adult eq horse and is looking to ride in Nassau or western Suffolk.
She is a beautiful, quiet rider who is just looking for some riding time. She’s responsible, reliable, and a good horsewoman. Plus, she’s just a really nice person.
She is just looking for some extra horsey time and isn’t picky, except she’d like something safe. Doesn’t have to be bombproof or perfect, just not crazy.
Please PM me if you know of a horse and would like more information. I don’t get to check this thread frequently.
Thank you!
Horseless pony clubber in Orange County, CA
I am a 20 year old pony clubber looking for a horse to ride outside of lessons. I am coming off of a break from riding and I would like to get some extra saddle time to get back into shape. I am currently taking lessons (on lesson horses) twice a week and I’d love to ride a couple extra times a week. Experience-wise, I am a D-2, but I am working on 1st level dressage and BN eventing; I have ridden horses for nine or so years. The horse does not need to be able to jump, I just need to get back into shape on the flat so I can keep up in my lessons.
I am willing to work in exchange for rides. I can get your horse and tack pony club clean, feed, muck, whatever.
I am willing to travel all over orange county and possibly into Chino/Chino Hills/Norco.
Thank you in advance!

Horseless rider in Fairfield County, Connecticut
I have recently moved back to Fairfield County, CT for at least six more months or so – does anyone need a hand with exercising or caring for a horse? I’ll even groom, clean tack, and do grudge work; really I just need to be around horses right now.
I am a very experienced English rider who hasn’t owned a horse for (too many) years now. I did Big Eq in the area as a junior lo these many years ago, worked as a mounted ranger in Central Park when I lived in New York, and generally pick up rides whenever I can until I get my own horse again (some time in the next year, I hope!). I never competed in western but have been around it enough to know the rudiments.
I am 5’10, about 220 pounds (a size 16, if that helps you visualize) so I am certainly not appropriate for anything tiny. I’m not in the best shape of my life, but I am definitely a strong rider who can handle pretty much anything.
The absolute best days for me would be Saturdays or Sundays – in my current living situation I am sharing a car, and I usually have it to myself on the weekends. But if you need someone weekdays, I can make it work.
I am 100% reliable. I know, it’s hard to gauge that on an anonymous message board. But I really am.
Somewhere in Fairfield County would obviously be ideal, but I can travel if need be.
Thanks in advance! Please PM me with any information or advice.
Adamstown, MD
ADAMSTOWN, MD. 8 year old, 15.3h TB gelding. Novice level eventer, sound, sane and quiet. Walk, trot, canter & jumps. Appropriate for intermediate rider and up. Kept at facility with indoor, outdoor & excellent trainer. Adult ammy owner lacking time to ride.
Horseless in Pinellas County, FL
Well I’m officially a resident of Clearwater after living in Orlando for almost 9 years. I’ve been riding H/J for over 15 years…on and off for the last few when I graduated college but I showed the circuit up in NJ as a junior. I was riding 80s rider’s ponies before moving out here. Right now I’m pretty open since I don’t have a job (hence moving in w/ family in Clearwater).
17.3 ISH Low Level Eventer Seeks Rider, Spring Grove, PA
I am looking for someone who might be interested in riding my ISH from now until probably August. I am expecting and would really like to keep him going. Has done BN, could easily go N. Needs some work in the dressage. Needs to stay at my place. Grass ring, plenty of hacking. He is a straight forward ride.
I am located in SW York County, PA. Please PM if you are interested or know someone who might be!
Horseless rider (Mass or New Hampshire)
Tactful and kind dressage rider seeking occasional riding time anywhere from Bedford, MA to Manchester, NH. Not interested in training, showing, or riding your horse into the ground, just providing some extra exercise and attention when you can’t get to the barn. I can ride anything from 14.3h and up, do best with sensitive horses vs. stubborn, and am looking to work on basic dressage (no jumping or trail riding). I am available most evenings and have a flexible schedule. Please get in touch through e-mail: lemonpledge42 (at) gmail.com and maybe we can work something out!
Riderless Horse in Loudoun County, Virginia
4-year-old (5 in late May) Thoroughbred gelding. Currently 16 hands. Fancy and sensible, but green. Appropriate for the experienced/intermediate rider who is familiar with greenies. Currently kept at a facility with riding rings/jumps and lots of trails. Owner hasn’t been able to ride consistently due to lack of time. Please contact me for additional information. Thank you!
Horseless Rider in Auburn, AL
Hey all, I’m a 20 year old graphic design major who recently transferred from Samford to Auburn this past fall. Ideally, I’d love to find a free riding opportunity with abilities to take lessons & go to events that I would pay for (if time permits, student wise). I’d be happy to do a work-for-ride situation.
I have evented through Novice and schooled through Prelim. I’ve also exercised polo horses, worked with green OTTBs, and played on the local H/J circuit. I’m a C2 in pony club with hopes to ultimately get my H someday.
If you’d like more information, please don’t hesitate e-mail or PM me. Thank you so much!

Rider in Chapel Hill area, NC April - May
Hi Everyone,
I will be in Chapel Hill for 5-6 weeks starting April 4th. I’d love some riding time! I have ridden for 10+ years. I started out hunters, then did some low level eventing, and spent last summer working on a guest ranch riding western so I am open to anything. I have ridden all types/ages of horses, experienced and just backed. I am happy to exchange riding time for barn work. I’m also happy to do groundwork with young horses. I’m willing to travel up to 45mins.
Please get in touch via PM. Thank you!
Riderless Horses in Ellington, CT
Hi - I’ve got a couple horses boarded in Ellington, CT and would love to find someone who wants to ride a couple days a week. Unfortunately, I can’t ride multiple horses consistently, and I also have the added challenge of being alone when I can get to the barn (because the other boarders are gone by then). I don’t like riding when nobody else is around, so it would be great to have someone there with me.
The horses:
2001 Oldenburg Mare, 16.2 hands. Lovely mare, fun, fun ride - she has a light dressage background but has most recently been shown in the hunters and eq. She’s my main horse but could be available to an experienced rider a couple days a week for hacking.
2003 Appendix QH gelding, 15.3 hands. Very sweet, honest and sane guy who loves to go on trail rides as well as work in the ring. Doesn’t require a lot of prep and is very quiet.
2004 Irish Sport Horse gelding, 16 hands. He is green and can be a handful if not worked regularly. Very cute mover, fun personality. Requires very confident rider who is experienced with greenies. Once he’s worked regularly he’s great - but he’s been leased to someone who hasn’t been riding him so it’s time he got back into a regular program.
The appendix and ISH may be moving to other locations in the next couple weeks, but I’ll always have two horses at this farm and will consequently need an extra rider at any given time All tack except saddle is available. Farm has a really nice, big indoor ring w/jumps, lighted outdoor ring, a racetrack and 45 acres of land. If you’re looking for some time in the saddle, please PM me.
ohhthatgirl came and rode my quirky OTTB and was amazing…this thread found me two great riders for my horses and I am really thrilled!
I should NOT be on this thread but I was re-bitten by the horse bug over a year ago.
Haven’t ridden in 10 years and not in the position to do so now, but I’d like to be around a barn again and maybe have a pet horse who needs some grooming, a bath, their mane pulled or just some carrots. Mucking stalls or scrubbing and refilling buckets would be great for my fitness, too. The one caveat is that I have 3 young (normally quiet and well mannered) children who need to fit into the equation. At least on week days.
If anyone is within 30 minutes of Reston, VA and wants to give it a try, I’d love to pitch in where I can. I still have “horse friends” who are a little too far away to do this, but I think they would give me great references.
Riderless Horses in Clifton (Fairfax County) VA
I found THE BEST person on here who used to help exercise my horses; i’ve never quite recovered since she left for college.
I have several fancy show horses of various ages and abilities and would be happy to share them with someone who:
is reliable-comes when they say they are going to come
is a well-educated rider, needs to have solid flatwork skils and be a strong, yet soft rider. If you don’t know how to execute leg yield, correct bend, counter bend, shoulder in/haunches in, it’s probably not a good fit for you–will consider someone who is otherwise a solid rider who is willing to learn more basic flatwork.
What I offer:
fancy, quality horses, a nice-sized outdoor ring and wash stall, access to trails and the ability to show from time-to-time if you want and are able, ability to get lessons with local, approved trainers if you want. They are all trained as show hunters but have more flatwork than your average hunter and like to hack out sometimes, not just go around in circles in the ring.
Riderless Horse in Southern New Jersey
Right now I have two horses that should both be in full work and competing and not enough time for both of them. In the past 4 years, I have had two children, moved to Southern New Jersey, started a new job and started my young horse eventing. My older horse has been on and off in work in between all of these events. As much as I thought that eventually everything would even out and I would be able to ride two horses again, it has not worked out. I keep my horses at my own farm and also have my two older retired horses as well.
This is what I am trying to see if I can find. I am willing to trade a full free lease on my older horse in exchange for help around the farm. The full lease would include board at my farm, vet and farrier. Additionally, the horse has his own saddles fitted to him (so you would not have to share the saddles that I use for my young horse) that you would have use of as well as any and all other necessary tack and grooming supplies. Additionally, I would offer a once a week lesson/schooling. I have a very nice trailer and will also offer free trailering to the same horse shows and cross country schoolings, etc that I am attending. I lesson w/Sally Cousins weekly at a farm in South Jersey and would like the person leasing him to take at least 2 lessons a month with her or another appropriate trainer (leasee would be responsible for the lessons).
Here is a quick bio for the horse. He is a 16H, blood bay Irish TB gelding and is 17 y.o. I have owned him for the past 11+ years and he will never be for sale at
any price. He has carried my amateur butt around safely for many years and
together we have competed through prelim eventing including placing 5th in
training at the’05 AEC’s. He is also very good in dressage and show jumping
and is schooled to 3rd level and has competed to 2nd level in dressage and we
used to compete at “C” level shows up to the 4’ jumpers. He is ridden in a
snaffle in all 3 phases. He would be very competitive as a low level eventer (up to training level) or in dressage up to 3rd level. I do not compete at jumper shows anymore so would not be able to offer trailering to those shows, but he is a very clean and careful jumper and would be competitive there as well.
I have a 6.5 acre farm in Vineland, NJ 08360. The farm includes a 4 stall barn,
tack room, cross ties, outdoor wash rack, a 100’x200’ ring with jumps and direct
access to dirt roads on the local farmers’ fields. I would need help with
cleaning stalls, dragging the ring, maintaining the paddocks and other basic
farm chores.
This situation would be ideal for someone who currently has more time than money and would like to be able to ride and compete a nice horse. If you or someone you know may be interested, then please feel free to contact me privately. My email is ADM7040@aol.com and my numbers are:
Home (856) 690-8608, Cell (336) 707-5012.
Thank you,

Horseless in Ulster/Orange County, NY - looking to lease
Hi All.
I am a competent rider (gentle hands, good seat) looking to lease a dressage schoolmaster. I am located in Gardiner, NY and am willing to travel in a 30 - 40 minute radius for the right horse. I can be accessible to the Middletown area, New Paltz, Newburgh, Walden, Montgomery, etc.
I would like to ride at least 4 times a week, but prefer daily access, if possible. I would also be looking to take regular lessons on the horse. I will gladly come out and do a test ride to make sure we are a good match.
Thanks so much!
Andrea
