Horse looking for rider in Holliston, MA
Hi friends. I am having some extensive “body work” done this winter: I’m having one hip replaced in the beginning of November and the other one replaced mid-December. The instructor at my barn can probably use my mare in one or two lessons per week, but at this point that’s pretty much all. Zippy is a 21-year-old Tbred, and her name is apt. She has more zip than most of the other horses at the barn, and did 50 miles of Vermont mountain trails last Memorial Day weekend. I hunted her last season and hope to get to a few hunts in October, plus take her up to Vermont again for a weekend. But I hate to see her on the shelf for nearly five months. She is 21, and she does much better with consistent, regular work. I haven’t competed her in several years, but she knows her stuff and is a lot of fun to ride on the flat (she’s a lot of fun to jump, too, but that’s another story). She is NOT a beginner horse–she evented to prelim level and she can be a little hot. She’s the boss mare of the barn. But she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, and she’s very personable.
My barn has a decent indoor and 1200 acres of trails. We’re in Holliston, Mass. Anyway, I’m pondering what to do about this upcoming layoff. Is anyone interested in having something fun to ride over the winter?
I’ve had Zips for 11 years and she is my heart, and I want to do what’s best for her. I’ve thought of doing some clicker training with her when my healing will allow it, but I’m concerned about this long layoff.
You can PM me if you want! Thanks.
