riderless horses and horseless riders?

Horseless Rider-Chester County PA

I’m a college student home for the summer (June-Aug) looking for a horse I could hack around a few days a week. I’ve been riding h/j for 7 years, and will be continuing with lessons at my home barn throughout the summer. I’ve shown IHSA for the past year and have ridden a variety of horses. I’m 5’4" 125lbs, so small enough for ponies (and I have a thing for ponies!). I have two videos from IHSA shows, one on a familiar horse (home show), one unfamiliar, if you want to see my riding. Located in Downingtown, PA and willing to drive up to half an hour.

Horseless rider in MA

Would love to ride 2x a week or so. Anything not spooky or psycho is fine. Would love to just do some pleasure/trail riding. I am on the Hampden side of Springfield Ma. but will drive for the right opportunity.

2 lovely guys in MD need riding!

[Edited to add, I got lots of great responses and have found a good partner for them for the summer-- but come fall I’ll revive this listing! Great idea…]

I can’t keep up with the hacking time they need/crave!

2 extremely well-mannered geldings, one my prelim eventer and the other a coming 6 year old (soon to be eventer :)) need one or two days of hacking either on the 200 acre farm they live at…or on the HOURS and MILES of trails just behind the property.

They can go out alone, or in groups, they can walk, they can gallop, they can ford streams and jump logs…they just want to go OUT!!

I am looking ideally for 1 or 2 days a week of this, including one weekend day. They live out in a big field so you have to catch them/tack them.

They are total dolls to ride and a blast to boot.

VERY depressed  horseless rider in Newark, DE - Close to Landenberg, PA. Willing to travel 25 minutes.

For the past year I’ve been lazing around on the trails with a fairly laid-back TB, but he’s going to a new home next week as the barn is closing. Before that I took some dressage lessons, before that jumping lessons. I don’t have show experience due to being a horridly poor teenager, but I can stick in the saddle and I’m a soft + quiet rider. Can ride ponies too! 5’3" and about 105 lbs.

Definitely willing to pitch in some barn help in exchange for riding.

bumping this up!

Bump. Has anyone had any success at all pairing up horseless riders with riderless horses?? :frowning:

I know a few pairings that have worked out great, who “met” in this thread or in Giveaways. I haven’t personally found any rides that way, but have had good luck with my trainer, word of mouth from friends, and the local equine classifieds board. I hope you find a reliable, competent person to ride your critters!

Part time riderless horse - Montgomery County MD

I am looking for someone to part lease my 8yr. old hunter mare, I just have too many horses and not enough time. At wonderful facility in Damascus Maryland starting June 7th, with indoor, two outdoors, show quality jumps, trails, etc. Lots of opportunity to show.

Here are some details.

Bellagio Q (Bella) is a 16.2hh 2001 Argentine Warmblood mare who always gets a top prize in the hacks. Beautiful jump, currently showing 2’3"- 2’6" with a 14yr.old. Has scope and stride to easily move up to 3’ in the next year. Schooling 3’with professional and eligible pre-green. Trained up to 1st level dressage. Excellent mover, honest and forgiving, auto changes and easy enough for an amateur or junior to bring along. Extended video available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT66l1qfR-A

PM or email me if interested: jciezak@hotmail.com

Thanks whisper. If the internet does not help, I’ll have to advertise in the local merchandiser as there is no local horse classifieds in this area that I know of.

Horseless rider here in central CT. Took a 6-or-so year hiatus, currently taking weekly lessons, but desperately need more saddle time. I’ve taken and am taking h/j lessons and have spent several summers riding foxhunting horses (or, more precisely, “I sure hope we can make a foxhunter out of this horse, why don’t you take him out and see if you both come back alive?” horses ). Total riding experience goes back about 15 years, some of those quite sporadic.

I think I’m currently in really good beginner mode. Hoping to get back to mid-intermediate level again. Really just need some saddle time to get back in the swing of things and get my muscles remembering what to do.

PM me with any ideas

Riderless Horses in VA - Delmarva Peninsula (DE, MD, VA)

Perfect opportunity for an adult re-rider or a responsible teenager with a solid foundation…no beginners, please (sorry)!

20 yo TB gelding, gray, 15.3, steady in the ring, OK hacking out around the farm, is very affectionate, loves to have his own person, very forward and willing, has a great big heart, hasn’t been worked consistently in several years until recently, does not require longeing before riding, a real sweetheart, could be brought back to do light jumping (his true love).

13 yo QHx buckskin pony, stocky 13.3 (capable of carrying a small/medium adult), hasn’t had consistent work in about 3 years, would be suitable for an assertive rider (he’d prefer to stand by the gate or trot back to the gate…thus the request for no beginners), is one of those ponies that just gets better and better the more you ride him. Has loads of personality…visitors to the barn always gravitate towards him.

These horses are located on my property in a small but comfortable barn. It is not fancy but is safe and neat. I would enjoy the company of someone else serious about riding and good basic horse care and horsemanship; I would like to find someone who would like to share riding time as I get bored riding my current horse by myself. I am flexible on terms. I’d appreciate an exchange of barn chores in exchange for riding. I’m also more than happy to serve as “eyes on the ground” for the rider.

Please feel free to PM me if you are interested. Thanks!

Horse needs rider- Moorpark, CA

I have just inherited a wonderful older gelding- previously a hunter with flawless ground manners, quiet and correct on the flat. His current schedule makes him available on weekdays. My farm is private and I could take a rider out to hack the trails for a small gas charge. Otherwise looking for a rider to provide some TLC, grooming, baths etc. for this saint of a horse.

Looking for a horse 2 ride …

Hey everyone… I’m looking for a horse to ride and work with … I sold my horses, and am in college … I can’t afford board so I’m not looking for a free lease off your farm, or for a freebie to keep… just thought someone might have an OTTB or another horse that needs miles, some retraining, or just more exercise than you can give… I can offer many years of experience, lots of love, and patience, and a special heart for those “problem” horses that always get pushed aside. Have done well for myself reschooling many OTTBs, rehabilitating rescues, and have started a couple babies from the ground on up. Most of my experience has been hunter/jumper and low level dressage. Im not the fanciest of riders, but I am effective and kind. No plans to show, and I’m not looking to get paid… I just miss my horses and riding altogether. If you have a horse or know of someone who does I’d love to hear from you. My only requirements are that the horse is sound, healthy, and well cared for.
