So you have verifiable info? Links that directly connect Borell to these accusations? Reason the turf writers haven’t jumped on this? GrumpyMare apparently had prior knowledge from instructor. This is animal abuse and GrumpyMare only posts to a thread? If Borell has done what is alleged then that is important for the public and horse racing to know. Can you substantiate the veracity of the owner videos and claims?

The Maria Borell Non-Story
Ninety-two percent of the people at the November Sale have asked us about the Maria Borell “non-story.” First of all, this Laura Whats-Her-Name lady out of the home office in Houston, TX has always been making the decisions and calling the shots. In our eyes, that makes her the trainer, more so than Miss Borell. For whatever dumbass reason Mattress Mac and/or Laura Whats-Her-Name signed-on this Maria Borell to be the PROGRAM trainer in the first place is beyond comprehension and anyone’s guess. Maria Borell didn’t bring much to the table in the form of work &/or where knowledgeable training skills were involved.
After the Breeders’ Cup she was fired.
The timing of her dismissal was certainly poor and probably no less thought-out than her hiring was. After the saddle slipped back two feet on Runhappy in the Phoenix Hdcp. (and he won anyway) would have been the time this writer would have done it. But, in all fairness, that can happen to any horse trainer. Maria Borell got the ride of a lifetime with a special horse, and she should count her blessings. If she signed on to do this private job without discussing bonuses and compensation (%) for purse money won, that just makes her a bad businessperson. She will get laughed at when she gets to the courthouse without evidence and/or documentation to prove her point. Trainers get fired every single day on the racetrack.
I know a bit about Maria prior to all of this (my husband managed and lived on a farm where she rented one of the barns). I wanted to believe the media hype, but I admit I was skeptical.
Really Shammy…I am not the arm of the law…she just gives an appearance of not someone I would want to do business with -look at the videos -they were posted well before she was in the news-- She is in the videos trying to block the view of the skinny horses in one or two …it is documented she has unpaid bills that went before the racing commission…take what you want or don’'t. I really do not care. Sounds like they were meant for each other.

On the Kara Harris Facebook page there is a post accusing Kara of having an agenda and asking why she has not called the authorities. The videos on the FB page are dark and unclear in the stalls.
Also it appears that Kara maybe trespassing. Some FB videos show a large area with a great many horses. Hard to tell what’s what. The fence line disrepair is a natural course of events on farms.
Once again one must ask, if it so bad where is local animal control or the SPCA?

a. told Maria they are not in acceptable condition and she has x days to improve
b. called spca to have them come out, look at the horses, and take her statement
You don’t just evict someone and then hope this results in proper care of the horses.
Also curious to know who Kara Harrison Tucker is. What’s her skin in this? She seems to be in the center of all this. Things might be looking up though. Maria can get her financial house in order just by taking this Kara to court for defamation. FB is no place to be malicious or to vent what you perceive as someone else’s dirty laundry. Legally it could cost dearly.

Maria might not have the best business sense but Kara shows she has very little common sense. Kara should have had her allegations concerning the neglect investigated by the authorities. It’s called CYA. And from all appearances, Kara had malicious intent. Not good for Kara in a court.

Shammy-We are allowed to disagree. I have concluded, inter alia, based on video of young stock with trainers doppleganger in it and the Ct of Appeals case upholding judgement for backrent and property damage, that mattress man met his match in certain respects. On the same evidence iyou think trainer has been unjustly maligned. That is fine.

Its pretty much the consensus around Lexington that Cordell the groom trained this horse. Because Maria couldnt train a hamster to run on a wheel.

Ah, another factoid that the entire Town of Lexington has been keeping a secret from the horse racing world. If Maria can’t be brought down with sniping about her bad business sense, not keeping up with rent, animal abuse, damaging the fenceline, abusing the farm premises, and furniture littering, let’s jump in with the groom did it all to make RUNHAPPY a BC champion. Why can’t Cordell be the trainer? Why wasn’t he the trainer for BC? It would seem that would be the perfect direction for Team RUNHAPPY to take. Get a top notch training job at groom prices. Why doesn’t he have a license to train in KY? Apparently, he unwittingly trained a BC champion. He needs to renegotiate his contract with Mattress Mack.
Now forgive me, but could you be specific about what is meant by concensus and more importantly who makes up the concensus? Is this the entire population of Lexington horsemen or just your circle of friends? Or you just needed something to say? Surely, someone from KY, Keeneland, or Churchill previously posted to another website the horror of knowing MM entrusted his stable to an incompetent person who ultimately abdicated her responsibility to the groom. Within the last year? Or six months? Surely Bill Finley, Steve Haskin Indian Charlie, Bloodhorse, Paulick, DRF, TDN or even Entertainment Weekly must have been on this. Yet the majority of articles supported her. There are no secrets on the backstretch that don’t ultimately find their way to the turf writers. Holy cow, all these top notch turf writers and publications must be looking for a rock to crawl under. Well, maybe not Indian Charlie, but he is a fictional writer. I mean according to some previous posts Maria has been abusing horses for over a year. Lord knows the SPCA, PETA, and apparently the KY Racing Commission had no idea that Maria was only suited to be a groom for captive rodents but even more that she abused an old sofa by tossing it in the front yard. PETA didn’t miss out on taking Steve Asmussen to the woodshed, why would they miss out on Maria Borell? She’d be easy pickings. She can’t afford a good lawyer. Perfect scenario for PETA to keep their mission statement and misinformation alive.
Despite what some think, I can handle the truth. Every one interested in this issue is able to do that. If Maria is this bad and the KY Racing Commission was not aware of it or ignored it, then the state of horse racing in KY and nationally is corrupted and beyond repair. As for this QHJOCKEE post, to quote the new speaker of the US House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, to the IRS commissioner who was testifying about scandals, “I don’t believe you.”
If you have some facts and evidence from a reputable verifiable source, then qualify it with evidence and post it for all to see remembering that OP was about Maria being treated fairly by Team RUNHAPPY and not about any personal flaws or mistakes connected to her. Though sadly that there is where this thread has lead.

Look, we can all say and think what we want, but its nothing more than pissing on the wind. Because, at the end of the day, no matter what the outcome, Maria is the trainer of record of a BC winner. And none of the rest of us are. Like alot on the track its he said, she said.
Is anyone else on their “team” a licensed trainer? Was Maria the trainer of record at the time of the BC?
