Runhappy's trainer fired day after Breeder's Cup

Can’t read it - it’s awfully small. What is it?

I second this. I tried zooming but it was so blurry once it was big enough I still could not read it.

Sorry, I don’t know what I can do about that on my phone. It is an affidavit from animal control dated 11-6 stating they investigated and found nothing amiss.

I’m late posting on this thread. I have been following and reading all the articles that have come out since day one. I am not siding with any party but one thing that bothers me is this…

“Wohlers was the trainer of record for Runhappy’s first two starts, a winning maiden race at Turfway Park in December and a ninth-place finish in the G3 LeComte Stakes at Fair Grounds in January.
Runhappy came out of the race with a hairline fracture, and Wohlers returned to her other job at McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture store in Houston. A short time later, Borell was hired to train the horses in Kentucky.”

Notice how fast Wohlers split the scene once an injury surfaced preferring to leave the rehabilitation to others?

Seems she enjoys the easy side of the job not getting her hands dirty, but doesn’t want to have to deal with the downside when it arises.

Ah, another factoid that the entire Town of Lexington has been keeping a secret from the horse racing world.
The Town of Lexington keeps lots of secrets from the horse racing world.

This is the best I can do, sorry.

I don’t understand the necessity for this type of comment.
When someone expresses their opinion and you disagree, then by all means, post your opposing view.

Please let’s not become a nasty bunch of people who can’t disagree without making it personal. There’s nothing wrong with a good argument, and I enjoy a good debate, but when the conversation veers from the topic and disintegrates into (what seems to me to be high school level of) personal nastiness then the fun is lost, along with the education that can be had by listening to other people’s opinions.

Are you just another sniper looking to add nothing relevant to the discussion or are you looking for an opening to take all horseracing down another notch?
No, you are doing fine all on your own.

Go ahead, google Beacon Hill Thoroughbreds and see what you find. Or, for that matter, look up her race accomplishments prior to Runhappy. Nevermind, here it is: http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Results.cfm?type=People&searchType=T&eID=267751

So, worked her way up? The whole thing is laughable, this girl does not represent racing in any significant way and to make this big hullaballo about this is an affront to racing imho. She ran 30 horses in 5 years, okay? Perhaps they can make a kid’s movie about her.

I have no bias or personal interest in this because I haven’t followed Runhappy, but just want to point out as a bystander that I don’t see how Gestalt’s comment is any different than what Shammy Davis said to Calamber, quoted above. Actually I would consider the latter rather worse in terms of rudeness.

I agree that this is an interesting topic, but it needs less biased defense of the trainer and attacking of anyone trying to discuss the topic. She is not some precocious 16 year old beset by internet bullies in need of heroes/knights in shining armor. She is a 35 year old woman and there is clearly more to the story than she presented.

That said, I am really interested in the training of the horse. I don’t know much about Runhappy, but some of what has been reported makes it seem as if she was almost like a PR rep for the horse, building an online following for it. I don’t do much social media, but it makes me wonder if he has his own crowd of crazies like the BCH ones.

It does seem as if the offer to pay her a set amount, rather than a portion of the earnings, indicates at least the intent that she would not be doing much or any of the actual training at the time that they hired her. What she actually did and how much she trained once under their employ may, of course, be an entirely different story.

Thank you Minerva but at least Shammy didn’t threaten to take me out like he did before. That is his forte, braggadocio bullying as a patriotic duty. As for Borell, she accepted the terms for heavens sake because she only ran a handful of horses over 5 years and this way she might get a movie! Just kidding… maybe.

Can you set it to public? I get content unavailable.

If she was not the trainer, then why was she the trainer of record and was allowed to enter the horse as the trainer?

Had she just been the “manager” of the horse (or the assistant trainer, under the complete control of Laura W.) then Laura should have been the trainer in the program and on the entries.

How come it is only after the fact that MM and Laura are claiming that Laura was really the trainer?

That part makes no sense to me. Unless MM and Laura wanted to be able to throw her under the bus in case there was anything untoward in the drug screen or management of Runhappy.

I hope that wonderful horse lands in good hands in California. But I also hope that top trainers will refuse to train for that man.

I know that a lot of them have already kicked him out. — MM certainly did not leave all of those trainers voluntarily. Back when I first met Laura she had quickly been licensed because Zito had just thrown MM out of his barn, and the horses had been moved to the training center on Paris Pike.

Looking at the list of people he’s had horses with whom he’s either fired or they’ve kicked him out, how many top trainers can there be left whom he hasn’t already burned bridges with?

Ok, so admittedly I haven’t been following this thread much since last week. But I follow MB on Twitter and she just posted a link to a Go Fund Me account for herself.

Am I wrong to be like “uh…no?” about this??

I was really on her side until about 10 minutes ago when I saw this.

Just curious if anyone knows where Runhappy is now? Still in Kentucky or has he gone to California? I don’t feel sorry at all for the people involved (on both sides) but I do feel bad for him and I hope he will end up with someone who won’t get him hurt.

Pretty sure I saw him turned out at the training center two days ago with about 6 people sitting in chairs guarding him

I just saw the gofundme too. Yeah…

Not good.

Just seems kind of cheesy.

I am actually kind of supportive of this idea. It is really hard to make it as a female jockey, there is a LOT of sexism in the upper echelons of racing, and if owners won’t run their horses for a 300k purse because they would ‘be forced to hire a female jockey’ then stuff 'em.
