Schooling breeches recs? Yes, another breeches thread

Coming back to say that I just bought another two pairs of the Free Rides, lol. I just find myself never reaching for the other 6 pairs of various brands in my closet and I was legitimately bummed today when I had to wear one of my “off brands” to the barn because my FRs were dirty.

They are simply the best! Especially when it’s starting to really heat up outside.

Reviving to say we’ve become absolutely obsessed with FR. My mother ordered the Define full seats and they are HEAVENLY. I just ordered myself a pair. They’re a little thinner than the Empower but aren’t like thin and flimsy. They also recommended using Aztec Diamond long underwear underneath them in fall/winter, so that’s a helpful tip for lighter weight leggings that I never thought of!

Can you link which ones you and your mom ordered?

thank you!

Someone above asked about the SmartPak breeches. I recently tried the Piper Flex tights in the full seats and I really like them. I haven’t tried any of the others recommended on this thread so can’t compare, however. The only other pair of silicone tights I own are FITS techtreads, which I also like. But the Piper tights are super comfy. No compression at all though if that’s what you are looking for.

That’s right up my alley, personally! It seems as though people either love or hate the Pipers; I’ve never tried them – maybe I should?

Were you referencing another brand of tights that is non-compressive?

I have the Free Rides but they are quite compressive - someone mentioned that I got the wrong kind, and there are different FRs that are less compressive?

I took the suggestion of someone on this forum for silicone F/S tights sold on Amazon - I absolutely love them, and they are now the only tights I wear! I will surely wear them out, though I’m trying to wash them only in cold and hang to dry - but they’re cheap enough that I can justify getting extra pairs as needed.

Just ordered my first pair of Free Rides (Lux) based on this thread. I had tried on the Empower at Land Rover, but hated how high the rise was. I’m 5’1’’ with very little torso, so it felt like they were coming up to the tops of my ribs. Sounds like the Lux are a bit lower rise. Hopefully I get to join the others who adore them. I’ve ridden in TS for 10+ years because I can’t find anything else that fits me as well for less $$ …but would really, REALLY like to.

After years of trying FITS and just not liking them, I tried again and got a very different outcome (what’s that, Mr. Einstein of the “The definition of insanity is trying the same thing again and expecting a different result”? SUCK IT): I love them.

Specifically, these ones:

I live in the hot humid Gulf Coast, and consistently ride when it’s > 95F outside (because it’s always > 95F this summer), and stay cool. They’re also just insanely comfortable to walk around in-- they feel more like yoga pants than breeches-- but don’t show underwear lines or shirttails. Are they magic? Maybe. Anyway, now I’m a believer.

A quick update, but I’m a Free Ride convert. I went from 1 to 3 pairs of the Lux in a matter of weeks thanks to the affordable price and frequent coupon codes and haven’t work anything else all summer, except to show in. They are just so comfortable and the side phone pocket is so convenient.

Now that it is getting cooler out, I’m eyeing the winter breech they just released online…

I do really love the Lux breeches so much. I noticed last night at 60 degrees with a slight breeze that they were CHILLY. I wonder if the winter ones are super heavy weight or if they’d be suitable for the usually 40-45 degree days we get here in the South.

So I don’t own any of their winter breeches (yet…) but I felt them at LRK3DE. They’re a very soft smooth fleece lining with the regular material on the outside. They feel like they’ll be pretty warm. I’m just waiting to hear back on sizing, like if I should size up like with the Empower due to thicker material or not.

I also got a recommendation from the brand owner to use the Aztec Diamond long underwear underneath the regular FR breeches/leggings. They’re ~$20 so a very good price point.

Oh that is good to know! I’ve only ridden in the Lux, and the higher rise Empower scare me (I’m short with a short torso, so a high rise swallows me up). It seems like the winter ones also have a high rise, but I may give it a shot.

OMG ME TOO Sorry for caps but this thread alone has gotten me three pairs deep and looking for more.

I got the black for XC and they made me feel so much freer but also secure and less gross in white haha.

I can not get over how much nicer these are than any other riding tight. Wow!

They make a Lux Pro now that is supposed to be a little thicker and more structured than the regular Lux. Curious if these might be better for winter/less tight-like?

I have two pairs of the Free Ride winter breeches–I bought them last year and wore them all winter. They’re definitely not super heavy. I’m in the mid-Atlantic and on really cold days they weren’t warm enough without another layer underneath. I busted them out for the first time this season today, as it’s in the 50’s with raw intermittent rain, and I was perfectly comfortable in them.

I’m also addicted to these breeches though…nothing else is as comfy. Eyeing some of the new pro pairs now…

Has anyone ever tried the Halter Ego brand breeches?

Do you have the Lux? If so, how do they compare fit-wise? Still very stretchy, similar rise, similar sizing?

I’m in Upstate NY but usually get through winters fine in Trophy Hunters with a long jacket that covers my legs, so as long as its not a colder pant than a TS I’m fine with it.

I think they’re similar-ish in fit to the Lux breeches. I’ve ordered a size medium in all the breeches I’ve bought from them and been happy in them size-wise. Right now I’m a fairly solid 30 in Pipers, Romfh, Tredstep, and Ariat breeches (I think that covers all of the non-Free Rides I have and still occasionally wear haha). The winter breeches are NOT as stretchy as the Lux breeches…they’re a thicker, plusher material. The rise is similar though.

Sigh, I have to admit, as much as I love the Maya Delorenz breeches, over the summer, I found myself reaching for my single pair of Free Rides more and more. Less structured and sticky, but man, so comfy!
