Schooling breeches recs? Yes, another breeches thread

LeMieux makes some great long underwear that I am looking forward to using this winter!

How is the sizing in the winter FR compared to either the Define or the Empower? I’m a size small in define, either medium or large (slightly too big) in empower, size 28 across all brands in standard breeches.

I ADORE my FreeRides and they currently are the only breeches in my closet. I’m venturing from the light and trying a pair of the Smartpak Hadleys…I bought a pair of someone and really liked the fabric but they fit really small. I also wanted to try something more structured and with a suede seat now that it’s cooling off a bit. Will report back!

raises hand I have a pair and am not impressed for the price point. They are quite low rise on me and the pockets won’t stay tucked in. They’re comfortable for the most part, though and stretchy.

Thank you, Good to know. I was about to buy a couple pairs but I think I will hold off now.

I have 4 pairs of FreeRides, a couple pairs of Equestly breeches, couple pair of Kerritts full seats.

My Kerritt full seats rarely get used except when I need to be super sticky or I stink at laundry. Or need a thick layer under.

My Equestly breeches are very comfortable and make me look more streamlined, they hold in my rolly spots (waist and hips) and are way stickier than my FreeRides. I really like them for summer hot weather.

My FreeRides are crazy comfortable and very little stick which I prefer. They aren’t as breathable as my Equestly breeches during the summer, but still very tolerable and comfortable.
I will say chores and farm work are taking their toll on my FreeRides and I already have a hole in one pair, if I was a pro running a barn I could see them not lasting for years, but for the price I will buy more.

I’m a huge fan of the Espirit breeches. I have their tights, the lined show breeches, and a winter pair.

I’ve been looking at Equestly for a while now, they just announced they’ll be at the Maryland 5* so I’m going to check them out! They also have winter breeches I’m interested in trying on.

I’ve also been eyeing the Equestly breeches and really wanting to try them, so it is good to hear good reviews. If you try them, please report back with what you think and the sizing!

I ordered a bunch of different breeches from Dover this summer and didn’t like the either the fit or the fabric or both on any of them so returned them all other than one pair that was the most ok of the bunch. I’m (riding) horseless until December so it doesn’t really make sense to buy new breeches now… or does it make more sense to buy them now when I’m not also paying for a horse? :joy:

Okay so I stopped at the Equestly booth yesterday. I’d say they were just okay. They only had one front pocket, material was thinner and they didn’t feel very sticky. The material also felt kind of stiff, not very stretchy or with a lot of give.

I didn’t try them on because I wasn’t a fan of them on the rack. Overall, FR and MD are far superior.

They have a lot of pretty colors though!

Y’all, the FreeRide Pros are literally my new favorite, holy grail pants. They have that comfy, stretchy fit but more structured material like a high end breech. Seriously, my jaw is on the floor. I’m in love!!

I will say though that I second the recommendation from the website to size up one from your normal size. They run small so I’ll be exchanging them. But I think I need these in all the colors!

I’ve been staring at the MD’s for months since this thread started.

Curious, which has more stick, because I LOVE stick, MD or FR?

I like the Free Rides a lot, although I don’t have one of their winter breeches (Yet!). They have, for me, the right amount of stick, not too much and not too little.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, look at the winter schooling tights on Amazon made by Willit: Fleece lined riding tights

I got a pair a month ago and have been wearing them when the temp is in the 40s. They’re not going to be warm enough for the really cold weather, but they’re pretty nice, and when you factor in the price ($30 to $36) they’re pretty spectacular.

MDs have significantly more stick. They are one of the stickiest silicone breeches I’ve worn.

MD is definitely stickier….and they’re 30% off site wide today :smirk:

FR are medium sticky, a nice balance of stick without being Velcro. MD is at the Velcro end of the sticky spectrum.

I’m hoping to grab another pair of Empowers tomorrow because they’ll be on sale.

Good deal alert:

I bought these Turnheir riding tights second hand from a local FB group and found them a lot more comfortable than my higher end brands. They are as low as $27 on Amazon for Black Friday!
