For all you young 'uns who are lurking on this thread, look hard at the position these people have in the air. This is a balanced, effective position. And it is SOOOO different from the awful āstand up in the stirrups and lean out on the horseās neckā that has become common today.

BAC- I agree with you on the packer issure. I asked a girl to ride and show my daughters pony and she said yes. Well the pony is not to green but not a packer. She rode her twice and did not want to ride her again because she was used to her old packer. How are kids learning to ride if they are just toted around. I would find that boring after while. Both my daughters who are 7 and 18 like to ride greenies. It has taught both of them how to ride by learning everything from A to Z. I myself was never the pretty eq rider but I learned to be effective and could ride the pants of of any pony back in the day.
Was just looking through some pics in Show Circuit, I cringe every time I see kids riding this way. Why do trainers continue to teach this? If people learned to ride effectively we wouldnāt need all these expensive packers. Sorry for the rant, I just hate see this. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

What happened to Rain Forest? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
<Kim jumps up and down for the 2nd time>
Rain Forest was shot in the leg by a Hunterdon groom during a card game. It was accidental. The horse was euthanized. I believe the groom was arrested, and deported.
Lake Placid has never been the same for many of the old folks since Rain Forest died and āMud Puddlesā closed.

llsc, I think you are thinking of Lemon Springs, ridden by Sandra Caldwell. He was a great horse. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I loved watching them show. Sandra was an elegant rider.
Hey Harry, How about a Wine Cellar with a motor coach. Now that would be the way to travel. No, no, the Budweisser Rig redone as a motorhome, and shaped like a giant keg. Wine packed between the walls. All kinds of straws sticking into the interior, with proper wine labels.
I think Becky Warner was from Albequerque, NM and last I heard was back there running a successful show barn.
Someone posted the link to the USEF hunter rules for me on another thread, and I was intrigued by the descriptions of the Hunter Hack, Hunt Pairs and Hunt Teams classes - these sound like really good fun (galloping in tandem over 4ā fences? Iām in!), but I was wondering if anyone actually does these classes anymore? If not it would be a real shame

Didnāt Dana Douglass also have a brown horse, I want to say Scotch Tweed? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Scotch Tweed was Brooke Hodgsons, before she had Advance Ticket I think.
Is this the same Becky Warner that is Louise Serioās sister?

What about Chadds Ford?? in the mid 80ās as a conf hntr. Also Kevin Lenehan had a Touch of Class Working horse ??? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Some trivia-
Leslie and Brian met when Spiff and Polish got called on top of all green conformation classes at Devon, Chadds Ford was called second and moved over us in every class. Leslie came out of the ring and asked me, āWho is that guy?ā He asked her out, and I guess you could say, the rest is history.
Hi, Can I help you? Hot dog?.. Mustard?.. Depends?.. Breast Exam?
BH2 - How well I remember you looking after that lovely grey mare!
PB was Short Notice a bay mare by any chance? Barn name Tiny?
I think we must be talking about 2 different grey horses, I know there was a āBirch Barkā back in the 60ās and I thought it was Drewās horse although it wouldnāt be the first time my memory has failed me. He was definitely an eq horse. Birch Wood maybe was Fredās horse? Never been to Nimrod so have no idea which horse the room was named after.

The ones that always come to mind for me are Not Always, Cap and Gown, Among the Stars, Up In Smoke, Gozzi, Aldie Belle, and a grey horse, I think whose name, I think was Second Fiddle. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I loved Not Always and Cap and Gown especially. Didnāt think anyone else even remembered Aldie Belle.
Was Junior Latoff from the same area?
I never met Mark Bliss, but when the other fellow arrived up here, he was intent on letting people know of his experience, and although he was quite a bit younger than me, I was aware of the fact the was not any sort of brand name. He earned quite a bit of distinction for a story wherein he was going to retire a horse, which he did retire, after he cashed it out at the slaughterhouse.
You said a mouthful, LHU!!!
Buddy also rode a brown mare, Balalaika, who was a marvelous jumper. REg. working, if I am not mistaken, and later moved into the jumpers. Loved her!
