Mom thinks she might have had a Second Fiddle, but wants to know if you mean Russell Stewart’s Little Fiddle.
That good horse was totally missed!! At least some of us have our gray cells.
TQ also had a beautiful gray mare, Spring Snow. What a beauty.
I remember the outside course! You started over a brush, jumped about 3 jumps going away from the barn, turned left to an in and out, turned left again and had 3 - 4 jumps coming home.
There was also a fun little trail that wound around outside the outside course.
Another memory of Shannon Stables:
One year on Memorial Day weekend (or was it 4th of July?) my sister and I wanted to see if our ponies would jump if we chased them over the jumps. So we got off and put up the “gate”, which was a board which rested on top of two 3’ high posts and proceeded to gee-haw the ponies around the ring. One of them raced to the gate and knocked off the board. In the blink of an eye, they were both outta there.
Last seen, they were headed for the third hole of the BG&TC. (Either the Bedford Golf and Tennis Club or the Bedford Gin and Tonic Club – whichever you prefer.) Unfortunately, on that holiday weekend, there was a big tournament going on and the ponies tore (literally and figuratively) up the fairway and across the green, even as the wealthy and stodgy members were chipping and putting. Let’s just say that they did not see the humor in the situation.
The ponies were not caught for 4 - 5 hours – miles away.
My sister and I had our social life severely restricted for quite a while. My parents just barely escaped being kicked out of the BG&TC, although, IIRC, they had to offer to make restitution for the damage caused to the golf course.
Ahhhh, those were the days…
Wasn’t Drew Davenport’s horse Birch Bark? Or was that Fred Bauer’s?
Oconee and Amabette, loved them both.
And a favorite pony, Wennol Bechan with Buddy Brown showing her.

Anybody remember Speechless or Auspicious?..Timmy Foster/Hoover…LOl </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I remember both well. Speechless was a lovely jr. horse at Nimrod, quite a challenge to get to the ring though. I think Kris Barlow had him. Auspicious was a horse that Lisa Jacquin brought to Fairfield when she came east. Leslie showed him some in the second years, Lisa showed him in the juniors. Another challenging horse. He ended up in Don’s barn.
Kim was a nice kid, and a good rider. Especially when you consider that she was not 100% committed to the riding thing. Every winter she would go to school in Vt, a school that did classes in the morning so the kids could ski everyday. She and her Mom kind of did their own thing, without help from Emerson. I’m sure this was a little messy, because she won everything with Polaris Make Believe, and I wonder how Em felt about that.
Polly was eventually sold to the Guyers, and I think Kim quit riding then to concentrate solely on her skiing.
hijumpin1 - Suncatcher was owned by a junior who rode with Diane Carney in the early/mid nineties when I rode there. He was another beautiful horse to watch that could be a bit of a skinker as well if you really knew him… I think he is still around the area, maybe showing on the B circuit…?
Delidog, I sent you some files on the PM.
Good Jr hunters from California of the past :
Classic
Black Ice
Celebration
Tightrope
Raffles
Raggedy Ann
Pep Talk
90s in Arizona
Code of Honor (besides Rox Dene, this one did very well in the 90’s.)
George Webber
Damn, that was a great A/O horse. I’ll bet a LOT of people got tired of jogging in AFTER that famous tail.
Geez, BAC. I just cringed when I read your post regarding Robert Hoskins’ death. Please allow people their dignity!!! Some things just do not belong on a public bulletin board.
Please go back and remove your post immediately.
In the same breath you say Pep Talk, you have to think of Quail Run. They were both cute-to-die-for horses with springs in their legs.
The best thing about Quail Run, though, was his name. He was an OTTB, and his barn name was Bert. This came from his Jockey Club name. His sire was a horse named Elbert (who???) and Quail Run’s JC registered name was
Run Like El, Bert!
How I remember these things, I do not know.
Ya know what, Jesus was a great guy. He worked for me before he went to Hunterdon, and it was as bad as if he had off’d his SO. Too much alcohol, a card game and a loaded gun! Heartbreaking.
No…arrrrgh!!! That’s not it. He wasn’t that famous…and I wish I wasn’t this senile. One more time…picture attached. Then I’m tearing it up and checking into Seizure World
