No that only is an iissue if 4 riders from one country finish in the top 35. As it stands 3 of the German riders are sitting outside the top 35. Amazing!!
I just don’t see the taped feed yet. I had tried to pull up the live feed when it was on and it wouldn’t open. Weird…
All are qualified, but the Chef has to pick which 3 can go forward if 4 are qualified, but he could pick the 4th ranking one if he chooses to do so - in our case, I’m betting Beezie is an automatic go for the finals over Cedic and Will’s horse even though they rank higher.
Everybody jumps again tomorrow, not just the top teams. It doubles as the 3rd individual qualifier round.
So it’s top 35 after tomorrow is finished, except no more than 3 riders from any one country. Ludger better start hoping that all 4 Americans and Swiss qualify so he can maybe get one of their spots!!!

You are right, I only checked Christian and Ludger - I had forgotten that Marco also had a really bad round.

Usually it’s available the next day or after it airs on TV.
I’ve been able to get the taped feeds (at work :o) almost immediately after the live feed is done, so hopefully today’s rounds will be up soon.
On the first competition day, the Jumping competition is the first qualifying round for the Final Individual Competition and will decide the starting order of Round 1 (qualifying round) of the Team Competition. After this competition, there will be a rest day.
The Team Competition Round 1 and Round 2 take place on the second and third competition day, and also count as the second and third qualifier for the Final Individual Competition. Round 1 is open to all competitors. Individual competitors will start first. Round 2 is only open to the best eightplaced teams and those teams equal on penalties for eighthplace as well as the 50 best placed individual riders. Following Round 2, the team with the lowest total number of penalties of its three best placed competitors (the sum of Rounds 1 and 2) will be the winner. In case of a tie for medal placings, there will be a jump-off against the clock, in which all concerned competitors may take part.
After two rest days, the Final Individual Competition will take place on the fourth competition day. Round A of this competition is compulsory for the 35 best placed riders and horses (including those tied for 35th place) according to the cumulative penalties over the first and second competition.
The 20 best placed competitors (including those tiedfor 20th place) will advance to Round B of the Final Individual Competition. Individual medals will be determined by adding together for each competitor the penalties incurred in Rounds A and B. The results of the qualifiers do not count. If there is a tie, the penalties and time incurred in the jump-off will decide.
Has anyone heard why John Whitaker didn’t show?
From the BBC site:
Britain’s show jumping team sit fourth after the first round but there is concern over John Whitaker’s mount, Peppermill, who did not jump because of a stiff back. The team are hopeful he will be fit for tomorrow’s final which starts at 1215 BST.
So Denis Lynch of Ireland was Fourth overall in the Jumping Individual Second Qualifier. Does this mean he gets to go again tomorrow? Is he in contention for an Individual medal??
I found this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/olympics/2551961/Injury-hits-British-show-jumping-medal-hopes---Olympics.html
Apparently his mare, Portofino, has an unexplained lameness. Once again, we see a competitor making the brave but difficult decision to withdraw for the sake of the horse.
SORRY – this is about Michael – not John – Whitaker!
Ooops!
So is it 6 or 8? Because the live feed clearly showed the top 6 (and 6th tie) as qualifying for the team competition. Not that they can’t make mistakes, but they aren’t the only ones.
Yep, he is one to watch for sure, he and Latinus have been fantastic. Will almost certainly make the final individual rounds.
On NBC now. Commentators said top 8.
Starting with Meredith and Shutterfly.

Has he ever had a stop or run out EVER? Beezie looked pissed. She’s not one to blame the horse …
To me…I thought that he would have jumped, albiet crooked and from a bad bad spot and there was no way in heck he was going to get through all three jumps in that combo from that intro to it. I thought she pulled him up due to his arguments and a bad spot coming in to a very tough triple combo. No way would I have jumped into it like that either. So I have a hard time calling it a refusal or a run out. Did anyone else see that?
Hey NBC is showing it on TV…YIPPEE
Hmmm, so can he jump having sit this one out? Seems like that would be unfair, being a rested horse.
I would think that takes him out of the competition.
Except Michael Whittaker’s Portofino was WD days ago and was replaced by Nick Skelton on Russel. John Whittaker rode Peppermill in the qualifying round, then WD today.
Two Whittakers were on the team. Portofino withdrew before competition. Peppermill is still in and getting a massage!
I wish GB would stop sending all the old farts out to compete. They have some brilliant youngsters that could kick a-- but don’t get the chance. They could even make up a team of 2nd generation Whittakers!
