Spinoff- Controversy of Redwine affect the value of his offspring?
Sorry, but when you see young horses standing around on dry lots with poor hay, dull eyes, dull coats and dragging limbs…well YES. What would be your assumption? Either poor nutrition or parasites right? Nutrition or management.
Your “symptoms” also correspond to what my horses look like on a hot, lazy summer day right after a good roll.

Dragging limbs? I would have called humane agents if I saw that in any state.

I was just in Sacramento/Elk Grove, California area 3 weeks ago doing an equine appraisal and visited a few farms and breeding facilities while I was there. I saw at least 50+ horses in total and everybody looked healthy and happy  I’m sure there are mismanaged farms all over North America, but doubt they are all localized in California.

Actually I think its easy to determine if it is “after a good roll” or because of the living conditions. Dry lot conditions with 40+ horses on just under 3 acres is not a good situation. Notice I am not mentioning what Calif. “farm” this is.

Out in the central valley there is a lot of land and irrigation water for some of the farms.

My point is, there ARE many breeders in CA who keep too many horses on dry lots and do not feed and supplement correctly. For whatever reason GFF is being singled out here, and I have heard from people who know that it IS the case there, but it’s not like it’s uncommon. You all can jump all over me AGAIN for just stating the truth about equine nutrition and management, but there it is. It’s a problem. It’s not like I am talking about some sort of hidden secret here, plenty of vets and breeders at the top of the sport talk about the same things.

Why some people get called out over others, well, I guess she pissed off the wrong person.

Oh, and as far as calling authorities? It’s been done in some cases. Unless horses are practically dying there aren’t the resources to do anything about most of it.

Perfect Pony, I know exactly what you are talking about. I thought there was a law that shelters had to be provided. It sickens me and the others that have seen it first hand to see young babies in the pouring rain and wind with no shelter to go under, or in the hot sun with no shade. Same for some of the stallions and mares too. Some people are in way over their heads.

Yeah, not paying people will tend to do that.

I guess GFF just happened to screw over the wrong person!

The wrong “person”?

IIRC, there was a fairly extensive list on a previous thread of individuals, farms, registries, and other entities that had VERY problematic dealings with GFF. Some of them have never been able to recover the funds owed them, or resolve issues regarding missing breeding certificates, registration papers, etc.

And if it is true she has warrants out in two states, and has missed two court dates – wow, she is really playing with fire. We can only pray her horses don’t suffer once the law catches up with her.

Yes, this was & is something I found very concerning after my visit to GFF. It gets mighty hot there, and there were lots of horses that did not appear to have adequate shelter from sun or rain. I don’t think there were 40+ horses there at the time, but for sure the numbers were pushing into the 30’s. I would never want that many animals in such a small area used to house them.

Grand Affair x Grande Saber

What is happening to the mares?

My first hunter foal for Grande Saber is at@GFF. I’m SICK!!! I know Grande Divina her full sister is in other hands now. So what will happen to one of the superstars of my breeding program? …Grand Affair -Grande Diva X Grande Saber o/o Al’s Valentine…who may be carrying another foal and is now approaching 17 years old!!

Sad very sad.

I bred full sisters Grand Affair and Grande Divina both by my stallion Grande Saber x Grundstein.
I also bred (sold in utero) the lovely Alaska filly “Accessorized” out of Grande Divina.

Any info about them??? I will take/buy any of them back…My email is TELLWYND@AOL.COM

All I gotta say is if you have a horse/foal out there, don’t believe everything you see in a pretty picture.

You can see how they live via google maps. But once again, it’s nothing strange here in CA. If there really is a concern about the horses or a specific horse I am sure any of us in the area would be happy to check in person. I drive almost right by the place a couple times a week.

What a shame

We recently acquired (NOT from GFF) a daughter of one of her mares Laws of Nature that I was trying to get history on or a decent photo (where she isn’t skinny). She really does have some nice stallions and nice mares there, and a very well done website. In the day of web shopping, just goes to show how important reference checks and the “human” element still are.

We sent a nice mare to her about 3 years ago, “Debutante”, and it was agreed that we would get her back if she didn’t work out for whatever reason, so we certainly care about her welfare - but are so far away - so if anyone hears of a situation where there is trouble, do keep that in mind and alert us if you can! I will say, though, that we are another case where we’ve had nothing but great dealings with Jill and actually directly helped her obtain Romantic Star, in fact (so we’d be concerned about him as well specifically, although care about all the horses). She has always been very communicative, kind and generous to us. It seems like it’s one or another based on the stories… which I hate to see nasty stories circulate but ultimately people are responsible for their actions, also. The internet makes sure of that… There’s no smoke without fire.

Well seeing as I happen to be just as much a PITA in person, I think I will try to drive by there and see what the place and horses look like in person…

Forgive me but I’ve out of the loop…
IS there anything filed against Jill?

What state…I see something in VA but can’t locate more than a reference. Bad Checks…anything else?
