Hi all!!! I’m in NY but my horse is from Va…I came across this thread and I’m dying to know more about this hunt! The festivities sound worth driving down for…not to mention, I have had bassets:) I have one left and he would be happy to teach his basketball skills in exchange for some odiferous comraderie. Please, someone, fill me in on dates etc…is there a website with info??
Did I mention that I’m planning on relocating in the near future and I’m in the process of looking around, so…
Surprise is a great name for a member who has a Basset that plays basketball, because that’s certainly a surprise! Obviously, he’s a point guard.
The CotH hunts are not official, so there’s no true web site…it’s a group of wonderfully generous folks in VA who have introduced some of us newbies to the sport of hunting.
The activity centers around Hunter’s Rest. She does have a web site, http://www.huntersrest.net/
you can visit it to see where we go and to contact her directly about dates and visiting.
Please send photo of said Basset Hound.
My Basset Hound puppy helps me crochet.
See?
Dahlink, Grab your tiara and feather boa!
The rest of us, local hostesses/mentors, belong to various hunts. I’m with Old Dominion Hounds, but after a hunt territory boundary change, discovered that I now live in the Warrenton Hunt. World’s easiest non-move!
We move the parties around to our various places, so you will get to see all sorts of ways to finagel the horse country living. We do get um, creative.
We have so many hunts that they are not only abutting each other, they occasionally overlap. Then there are the private packs. And there hunt trail networks that go for miles… Then there are all the other fun horse sports. I also event, and dressage on occasion. It is an extraordinary Mecca that draws the best of the horse world. You trip over gold medalists in the grocery store, post office or feed store. Great vets and farriers plus people support, too.
Come, drink some koolaid from our flasks, and join the merriment!
JSwan, that is one cute basset!
Chopper often “helps” with my needlepoint. I’ll try to get a photo of him on my lap as I attempt to stitch.
Sure wish I could see all y’all this Spring, but am hope-hope-hoping to make it for an Autumn CotH hunt-fest. My tiara and feather boa are dying to go on a vacation.
Surprise, perhaps send her an email so she will know to include you on the information sendouts as well?
PS. JSwan, your pup is absolutely adorable.
He is one of the Ashland Bassets - so if you come basseting you’ll see his relatives.
He is pure evil.
Rivenoak - I would love to see a photo of that. Hope you get out here this fall - it is a glorious time in the Piedmont.

I cannot stand to see that poor animal maligned in such a fashion. He is the sweetest, cutest, most darling-est Bassett ever. I cannot believe how misunderstood he is.
Poor little thing.
The dialogue at the first event of these weekends must be hilarious.
An Ashland Basset!
So, Sunnymeade,
It may get easier to figure us all out after a libation or 2.
If your husband wants to come and he is welcome to join the Prince Consorts in their secret chef conclave. ( The white smoke means dinner is ready. The black smoke means we find another fox and hunt some more) He is also welcome to car follow during the hunt and generally join the merriment.
DH can mean Darling Husband among other things. If you look at the top of this page, you will see the heading for discussion forums. When you click on that a long list of forums will pop up. Scroll down to the one called FAQs, and look for the thread, “What does this mean?” Some of the cothisms are there, but we have added more as whim strikes us. On the CotH hunt threads, we have created an entire culture. (We have our Monty Python moments:eek:)
In our household, my DH is Saint Carl. He doesn’t do the wine business. That’s me and our sons, Sir Bradley and Sir Mason. But, they are both doing grad school right now. too. Sir Mason is an Astro-Biologist. He is looking for life on Mars. Hopefully they will drink wine. Sir Brad is interested in micro finance, so he will be able to help them finance their vineyards and wine habit. Isn’t that the way to expand?:D:lol:
The smoke signals from the kitchen will be easy to sort out - yours are the same as ours
Oh my goodness…at pushing forty you’re quite the young sprout. We might have to “card” you at the door to the castle
Sunnymeade,
I sent you an email. Enjoy…
We are sitting at a cafe in damascus va waiting for lunch. Lol we have wifi.
Yes Sunnymeade you get the idea. I didn’t know WateryGlen and I just drove up, spent a Perfectly lovely weekend with her and her Bleu de Gascogne, Calais, and had a faaabuolous time We were and are best buddies. I have a sneaking suspicion that all Hunter Princesses from Snobbington Hunt are like that. Yes, you will have to research the Snobbington Hunt thread before you drive up! However, I will have to stop you at the Tn-Va border to make sure your carhartts are not! Ironed.
Hi Hunting princesses! I just put my deposit check in the mail to Hunter’s Rest yesterday, so I’m definitely in! I have been reading these threads since the first Coth Ladies’ Hunt Weekend and I am looking forward to finally meeting everyone and drinking the Kool-Aid! You all tell such great stories; I just know it will be a blast. I’ve been working hard on my fitness, going to the Gym 3 days a week. And I’m moving my horse to a barn with an indoor so that I can ride everyday in order to get in riding shape. But now after reading some of the above posts I think that I need to also work on getting into PARTY shape! It sure sounds like lots of fun is being planned. I can’t wait!!
Welcome JennieN!
How far back did you go on the coth hunt threads? The first Hunting Princess thread is “Dressage horse gone wild”. It was updated this Fall, so it’s only a page back. It is is easy to spot. Just look for the one with 14k hits. Pleasantmeadow was our first newbie lured to Va. Hunter’s Rest and I passed the flask, and the rest is kool-aid history.:D:lol:
Hi Whicker, thanks for the Welcome!! I don’t remember the thread titled “Dressage horse gone wild” I’ll have to look it up. But I think I’ve been lurking at least since Fall 2010?..maybe…Spring 2011? Anywayyyyy I have been plotting to join you ladies since then! (whenever that was)! I know I’ll be hooked, I’m even thinking to look at a field hunter for sale while I’m there!! Crazy?!
