Spring CotH hunting weekend in Virginia??!

You will trip over it the day after you break down and have the farrier put on a new one.

At least that’s the way it goes in my world.

I was plotting a trip to VA and then a new horse fell on me, literally. Oh well, won’t be this year for me :frowning: Can’t wait to make my COTH-crew foxhunting debut!!

Corky,
What an unsettling experience!

What happened?

I hope you and your new beastie recover quickly. Check over at the re-habbing riders forum. They are a very supportive group with all sorts of information.

Please let us know when you are up to playing, even if it is car following.

The farrier replaced the missing shoe this morning.

After he left, I put out hay.

I found the shoe.

Corky - sorry about your accident. Hope to see you out another time.

My Hubby, the eBAY expert, sniped these for me with 6 seconds left!!! I’ll be stylin!!! He’s a keeper! Now all I need is to get in SHAPE!!

Of course, JSwan.
We all knew it would happen.
Hang it up for good luck?

This: Mountain Horse Victoria Dressage Boot!! @ 1/2 price !! I tried to link to a web page of the boot… but I am lame!! Call the vet!!

I’ll probably drop into some of the non-riding events. Can’t wait to meet the newbies!

The Fruits of Shopping Enabling from ManyDogs and Hinderella

Thank you, ManyDogs, for the STP hint.

Wooot! WooooT!

I’m likin’ this new batcha Hunting Princess wanabe’s more & more everyday!! I sense that…je ne sais quiot or joie de vivre in them…that and their inate fashion sense, shopping skills etc. All looking good to me. I’ll get out the feathered tiara’s and start shining them up! We even have blaze orange feathers…so you won’t get shot by deerhunters!! So start practicing your HP walk!! Looking regal ain’t that easy you know!

I actually might be working (aka:volunteering) at the Bull Run races on sunday and will miss basseting…maybe…we’ll see!!

linquest-glad you will be joining us (March 24, I hope!).

Sunnymeade=Oh, no problemo! You might find the Barbour a bit snug in the seat-I did, and so did others who purchased one, but I think ripping the seams out at the back flaps/vents whatever (?) helps.
We are all here to enable in any way, of course. Keep that in mind.

And wouldn’t you know it, DH took a “typical weekend outfit picture” of me and when I looked at it (while drinking my G&T-yas I know it is not 5 yet, but it must be 5:00 somewhere–I found the wonderful pictures of our last HP soiree at WGs. WG, I had numerous pics of my favorite Bleu, Calais.

And to let everyone know, next Saturday I will be joining TN Valley Hunt in their walk-trot field for huntttttttiiiiiiinnnngggg. Good way to get my feet wet, I think.
Wooooooooohooooooooooooo!

PS-the picture: I had my Kobalt cap on that has lights, my beloved Carhartt jacket. Wally World jeans, and my brown (!!!) field boots that I still haven’t gotten laces for. I was deep in muck earlier and even without laces and a big gusset in the back, my feet were totally dry. Love it. Don’t know if I can post pics but will try somehow.

Eagerly awaiting my box from STP!

Eep!! Sorry, I didn’t read my comment until now, she ‘fell on me’ in that I wasn’t looking but there she was, and I bought her. She has stayed on all four feet since money has changed hands, no accidents. Although she took every penny I had saved for a hunting trip south! So now I’m selling my heavy hunter, if I can move her sooner than later I may still be able to swing south for a brief trip, but it isn’t looking promising. I need to make money, lots of it, anyone want to send the money fairies my way? I’ll have them fly me to the meets in VA!!

How Fit???

Sorry Ladies for the sudden change of topic!
(1. I couldn’t figure out,(after a few glasses of wine) how to start a new thread! 2. It’s been a while since anyone has posted on OUR thread!!!)
My Question is HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE??? for a first timer/newbie foxhunter? I ride 4-5 days a week. But only indoors at this time of year, (IOWA!!, need I say more?) Plus I work out 4-5 days per week at the gym. Lots of cardio, spin class or elliptical, Peak 8 workouts, plus circuit weight training.
Some time ago HR posted a description of a posting/2 point trot work-out to help build fitness. If anyone could link to it, thanks - I can’t find it.
But really, how fit do I need to be? (Hilltopping) And how can I judge if I’m tough enough?!! Any and all help greatly appreciated!!!

PS

I’m so excited!! I can’t wait to meet everyone and drink the kool-aid!!!

Jenny
Your results will be superior if you are fit to trot 2-point for 20 minutes at a stretch (occasional posting here adn there, but mostly 2 point).
However, you will be riding with ME on my easy horses, tucked under my wing, and the WHOLE :POINT of ODH (and other hunts) creating a Third Field, and placing it in the hands of a conscientious leader, is exactly for this purpose.
To safely introduce people to the joys of foxhunting.
That you’re ‘not quite ready’ for the vigors of hunting, proper, is no problem.
Consider this a weekend course (which it is, really) - you come, you dip a toe into the sport and see if you like it. If no, then nothing lost, you’ve enjoyed a fun weekend and made some nice new friends.
If yes, then, tally ho and off you go. You’ll then be armed with the info you need to get yourself fit and ready for next season!

UPDATE re: 3/3 trip – It pretty much fell apart, partially due to me. I expected that I’d be having a runner at the point to point that day, but it is becoming more unlikely (having a runner was going to make the hunting day for HR and HR horses abbreviated.)
So I am re-opening for riders – I had GJP/Gaila, Cece/Lesson 13, and 2 local riders, but I’d sort of told them ‘maybe, probably, no’. But I’m now saying, ‘likely, yes!’ if anyone wants to hunt that day. With or without the big-weekend-build-up.

For you ladies and gents who will be in the Hunter’s Rest vicinity on the weekend of 3/3, there’s a new Point-to-point (as Hunter’s Rest mentioned) and Hunter Pace that weekend right up the road. See “Events” forum posting please!

Have lots of fun and hope to see you in Sperryville too!

Late to the party…

I’m in!!! New horse and I have tackled a number of hurdles in the last two weeks (she arrived in NJ two Friday’s ago) and I think we’ll be fit enough to hang out with Hunter’s Rest in the Third Field (with Whicker escorting us in when we’re tired)!

My new lovely Irish Draught mare has been out of work for almost a year (had a foal in July) and is coming fit quicker than I could have dreamed. I’m keeping records with my GPS as to how long, how fast (or slow) and how far we’re exercising 5 days a week. I’m not going to push her, but I think we’ll be able to pull off a trip down to join the “princess party” WAHOOOOO! I have a friend that is willing to join me, and moments ago I informed DH of my intentions… He may be game to join in the festivities as well!

Last Wednesday, I took new mare out in the hunt field after arranging with our Second Flight field master (who also brought out a horse after a year long lay up) to go out for no more than an hour… at a VERY slow pace. What an AMAZING, AMAZING DAY!!! New mare was PERFECT beyond words.

We trotted for the first 5-10 minutes while hounds were being cast, and stopped and stood when hounds took off in full cry. Of course the rest of the field took off at a gallop and 2nd Flight Field Master and I stood and watched… We waited a few minutes, listening to hounds work a line and guess who popped out to say hello. Mr. Foxiepoo darted out of the woods at 50 yards and slowly sauntered on by. Stopped and looked at us for a moment and jogged off! What a day, what a day. The temp had risen to near 50 degrees and footing was perfect! We stayed out for an hour and five minutes in total, caught up with the hunt twice and for the most part had our own hunt watching from one rolling hill or another.

We’re heading out to do some hill work at a local park in a couple of hours, and I’m hoping to get some video of us popping over a few of the lovely cross country fences in the park… I’ll see how brave I’m feeling.

So there - I hope, hope, hope I can make it!!! I’ve been stalking this thread, and praying that I’d be able to chime in…

I’ve already contacted ODH Masters this weekend and received permission to join the party. Hotel is booked and Whicker - You’ll be getting a much overdue call in about 5 minutes. I’m so excited, I could pinch myself… OUCH!

Yay Pleasant Meadow!!
However … which weekend are you coming? 3/3 or 3/24?
3/3 will be much abbreviated, because most attendees are locals/aren’t staying over, etc., so it will be merely riding with me Thursday afternoon (if desired), dinner out somewhere Thursday night (if desired), lesson with me Friday morning (if desired), whatever-you-want-to-do Friday daytime, dinner here (but only me and ?? not sure anybody else is coming) Friday night, hunting with me Saturday morning (shipping to a fixture about 8 miles from here, towards Marshall - called "Texas).
Going to the point to point with me Saturday after hunting (if desired). ?? Saturday night. Not sure what Sunday morning - there’s a hunter pace at 1 pm at Thornton Hill.
I have Gaila/GJP coming, but she’s only meeting us at the hunt, no other activities.
I have Nikki/Sonny’s Mom coming, bringing her own horse, though I’ve offered her a new slot for 3/24 if she wants more ‘social’ stuff.
I have Cece/Lesson 13 as a yes, then a no (b/c of me) but I’m hoping a yes, but she’s local and was only doing the hunt (I think)?
Sooooo — basically, I need to hear from everybody about who’s doing what, and when!!!
