The rain pushed out yay!!!
What a good report! I bet she likes getting a bit of outside time!
Glad sheās doing well! She got lucky with you.
Quest needs to be dosed more accurately than Equimax, at least not overdosed. So for that reason, I donāt choose Quest for and underweight/questionable weight horse. But both are effective.
Vet said right at 1000lbs, so thats what I gave her, all but a couple small gloops made it down her throat, we played airplane first like a toddler .
Still skinny of course, but her coat is a little fuzzier, her eyes a little brighter, and she still looks a little ābouncierā around her bones, maybe because she is better hydrated?
Wow is she skinny! So glad you have her.
Ikr! She actually looks so much better than she did last Sat when she got here!!!
Iām glad sheās doing and feeling better. Pretty girl.
Poor girl is one lucky pony to make it to you, literally in the nick of time.
Sheās in great hands.
If the fecal float saw parasites even with a really loose stool sample then she is probably loaded with parasites. Iām looking forward to her progress in a few weeks considering. Slow and steady, of course, but betting her deworming, dental and alfalfa do a lot for her.
More good & slightly annoying news!! The annoying firstā¦stall walker, like round n round clean shavings in the middle, track of poop n pee walked in circles around it. I think she was walking her stall all the time.
So I got fed up, said if you wanna be out then fine, pick which you want!! I left her out for an hr yesterday in my little 40x50ish lot with the option to go in her stall if she wanted. I came outā¦hot damn little bits of grass/debris all over her and in her mane, she rolled you guys!!!
After talking to a friend at dinner about it last night we both agreed the torque n torsion on her limbs, plus anxiety of being locked up is not good for her. So we let her stay out in the lot or stall set up last night too.
She of course still had to pee n poop in her stall, but only 2 poops in the stall and about 4 in the lot, almost all were solid, she had eaten all her food, and had shavings on a small part of her hip. Iām letting this set up stay going until its pouring rain later on today, and when it is freezing temps the next few nights. Then she will be sheeted and in around 9 till 6 and then back out with the pick your poison options lol.
Yay progress!!!
I know sheās going to get better and better pretty quickly now. But I canāt wait to see her this spring!!
This is such great news! She is a pretty thing, even bony!
That looks like a perfect setup for her. And I think youāre wise to try to minimize stress - thatās the last thing she needs in her condition.
Fingers crossed that you get to post amazing transformation pics in the spring! When my starved guy shed out his old coat, he literally shed all of it out at once and it looked like he was bald. But his new coat came in beautifully. Iāll bet your girl will glow!
Youāre doing a great job with this beautiful girl. Keep up the good work!
Does she have a new name yet?
Thank you! Iāve been calling for her saying ācome here sugarā¦sug sweetie, sweetieeeā Hoping we can make it into Sweetie with time. Daughter comes home from fall break at grandmas in about an hr so we will see, Iām sure she will have the last word on it, like most everything at out house lol.
Dh came out to feed with me last night at 9 surprisingly, she didn"t notice I put her feed bucket in her stall n I hollered to him from in the barn, ājust put her lead rope around her neck you donāt need the halter!!ā He comes walking her into her stall, no lead ropeā¦ just his arm around her neck like if he was giving her a one armed hug, it was the cutest thing. He also apparently went out to see her while I was shoppingā¦ what a softie!!
When my horse had cellulitis, we actually left him last to go out because he stall walked unless he was first.
It helped get that leg moving and the edema pumped out.
Sometimes you can use their foibles to your advantage.
.
So weird development, this is what I just sent my vet:
Hi! Sorry to bug you, everything has been going pretty good and then this evening she decided she did not want to eat her wet hay. Sheās trying to eat some dry hay, but opening her mouth really really wide to chew, did you get ahold of the dentist by chance? Her temp is normal for now, but I did give her some banamine. Shes peeing and pooping but what bothers me is sheās breathing extremely heavy?
It is raining and my barn ceiling is loud, but it has calmed down, she is eating a little better, I understand if her tooth is bugging her but I donāt get the heavy breathing? No sweat, no rolling, no panicking, just pooped out normal apple type poopā¦so weird, any takers?
