TB auction in Hemet, CA

PhoenixFarm, did you find shipping? I just bought Wekiva Springs filly and a friend bought Twirlybird, so they need to come north.

Lot 65 is available, at least as of an hour ago. I think she is stunning, and I was told duplicate papers can be obtained.

Yes! I have someone who can pick up Thursday morning! ! And yay! I’ll look at that horse too.

Does your person have room for more?

Yep! Just asked her. Who are you taking too about the ones who fell through?

The sale of Lot 2 and Lot 28-171 fell through. There a few more available, as far as I know. Call the sale number: 1 760 553 0348

Ok, these are the lot numbers the auction lady said are still in need: 6-124, 65, 91 . Trying to pin down who’s who. Also, the horses have to be gone by tomorrow, there will be no one left there o care for them. Working with my shipper right, they can take them tomorrow.

Lot 6-124 is a 2018 colt out of She’s Irresistible by Jeranimo. According to something I saw somewhere, the stud fee was paid… so at least there’s that. Here’s a link to the mare’s pedigree

#91 was a 2017 Grade colt, out of a mare named Acceptance Speech, by World Renowned. I’m guessing the dam was this mare…

#65 was a cute bay mare who had an issue with her papers. Two white hind stockings - a bit stiff.

I’m way over on the east coast, but just wanted to commend you guys for jumping right in. Hoping that some of those older mares are part of the package. Congratulations to all of you.

Apparently United Pegasus Foundation got involved and is providing a soft landing for one of the older mares. Someone else has reported buying one of the 2018 colts.

Thank you guys SO much for stepping up for these horses!

Is Charles helping you? So glad you got yours!!!

A few more postings on Facebook about this situation.

Yesterday, someone who had bought a weanling colt posted that the horses at the farm had not been fed for the last few days, and the colt they had gotten was very thin.

Last night, someone from Bid Fast and Last Auctions commented on a thread that all the horses in the auction had gone to Thoroughbred breeders, family homes, and reputable rescue organizations. They claimed that kill buyers had not been allowed to participate in the auction, and even though many of the prices were very low… they were confident the horses had NOT gone to kill buyers. They said that at the end of the day on Monday, they had moved 80 head of horses, and had lots of happy buyers. They claimed to be posting this information to reassure people who had been publicly speaking up about this situation, and voicing concerns that these horses were being sold to kill buyers.

Today, someone who went to pick up a mare who was in foal took pictures of two remaining colts, a 2017 and 2018 colt. She just claimed that the horses had all still been getting fed, and her mare and the other colts looked to be in ok shape. She also posted that EF1 farm had actually decided to retain 30 horses… they supposedly were in ok condition, and this would apparently be a more manageable number for the owner.

I have no clue WHAT the truth is… but the report about EF1 retaining 30 horses is strange. Bid Fast and Last Auctions has advertised in videos promoting the sale of the horses that the ranch itself was to be auctioned shortly too. Other people have been working hard to figure out shipping on short notice for animals they purchased, because there supposedly wouldn’t be anyone left at this ranch to care for these animals.

The Eric Yohan guy who apparently owned these horses a few months ago had been unable to pay creditors according to multiple reports. That’s theoretically why the auction happened. So I don’t quite understand how it is possible for EF1 farm to retain 30.

I suppose it’s possible they are all going to be moved to a new location. If these 30 horses do all move to a new location… hopefully someone can identify where that is, and who the shipper was that handled this.

Update from FB… I am copy and pasting text, as well as a link to their actual post.

Castleton Ranch in partnership with United Pegasus, rescued 11 thoroughbred horses from an auction in Hesperia yesterday. A thoroughbred breeding farm was closing and all of the horses had to go. We were able to get 7 pregnant mares, one yearling and 3 non pregnant mares. 5 of the pregnant mares will be going to Castleton and the others will be taken by United Pegasus. We want to thank our friend Helen Meredith for her help with this rescue and for providing isolation for these horses at her ranch in Hemet until it is time for them to go to their new homes. We are blessed to have such friends as Helen and in fact we have been working together for 15 years. (where did those 15 years go!)
We hope to have some photographs up soon.

#128 - 2018 colt out of Salone Blonde by Jeranimo
#149 - Ancient Boundary - 2002 mare, exposed to North Light in June, but unconfirmed
#150 - Lil Bunny Foo Foo - 2013 mare

#177 - Saintcerely - 2002 mare in foal to North Light
#194 - Walt’s Wharf - 1998 mare in foal to North Light
#232 - Ray’s Charm - 2011 mare

Castleton Horse Ranch Rescue is working with United Pegasus Foundation on this, and sharing the burden in terms of isolation and immediate veterinary needs, and United Pegasus is trying to figure out longer term solutions and homes for these cases, much less the foals once they start coming. If anyone is still interested in taking on one of these horses, or simply helping in some way, here are their websites.

Hopefully there will be some sort of fall out for the owner of EF1 Farm, who essentially DUMPED these vulnerable mares. Reportedly, some of the 2018 youngsters had not been weaned when shippers arrived on Monday and Tuesday, nor had many been handled much, or even halter broken.

My filly, now named Grace, and mare, we’re calling Vita arrived this morning. I can confirm that poor Grace got pulled off her dam Monday, and put on the trailer Tuesday. She is gorgeous and sweet, but not really halter broke, and has been under a lot of stress, so we’re monitoring carefully and she had APF and gastric guard.

Vita is stunning in person and arrived freshly groomed/ bathed. Her knee looks a bit worse in person, unfortunately, but she seems sound on it so I’m hoping it mostly cosmetic. We’ll see.

It it sounds like pick up was a total fustercluck. Nuff said.

Awww - so glad your two are safe, and on the path to a better future. “In Two Notes” is Grace’s dam - correct? Kinda nice to know they both made their way to soft landings.
