TB Broodmare bloodlines that we like

Not a mare but I like most of what I’m seeing in this guys lines. http://www.pedigreequery.com/obvious+reason
I think Fred will particularly like the sire’s dam line.

Reading this thread again and again has only strengthened my resolve to fine the THOROUGHBRED MARE for my Stravinsky (aka Trachit) semen… LOL!!!

Anybody want to donate a uterus attached to an awesome sport bred and sport performing mare??? Hehehe…

I mean, wouldn’t it be nice to have some of his blood lines in TB form in the US???[/QUOTE]

Hmmm… maybe Viney would help us with the hypothetical mating of him with
my mare Tess www.pedigreequery.com/tuscany+romance

 I do ponygirl!

I love how long-lived, sustained, that mare line has been.

And it’s just as good for sport as for racing. There is a Lassie Dear son in South Africa with a very, very good reputation for producing show jumpers. Roberto son. Forget his name, but it’s something Arab.

I’ve been peaking at some of the pedigrees of the Burghley horses this year and have come to the conclusion that you simply cannot have a world class TB mover without Hyperion through one of his sons. He’s less good through daughters. Although Nearctic’s dam was a daughter, IIRC.

That’s why I really like Sandpit for modern America mares–he’s really packed with Hyperion.

Take a look at the pedigree of the TB stallion Rich Cream who was a sprinter. http://www.pedigreequery.com/rich+cream It’s stellar from top to bottom for both sport and racing. US bred. Hyperion on top and lots of Blandford throughout. He was an excellent sire of event horses in Ireland, with at least 11 who have competed at 2* and above. Now dead, of course, and he left no stallion sons and only one really good racing daughter in the US (Beauty Cream) who was bred only to the Hottest stallions without regard to pedigree planning. He stood longer in the US than Ireland, so there might be daughters available from him.

Fred, if I were going to outcross the AFR lines, I’d want to find something that had Hyperion. Stravinsky has him twice, once through Owen Tudor and once through a mare with Double Life (Precipitation’s and Persian Gulf’s dam). Persian Gulf is in more than few German Warmbloods. And Stravinsky has all the german lines back to Dark Ronald. That’s a breeding that should be seriously considered.

I don’t know about that…I’ve known many top moving TBs without Hyperion but the do tend to have a lot of line breeding to Bay Ronald and St Simon…but never looked that closely at it since now you are getting so far back in their pedigree.

For example, I don’t think Courageous Comet has Hyperion and he certainly was an internationally competitive moving TB.

I just think you see Hyperion more because he was such a popular TB sire in his time…but you can have a top mover without him;)

I’d also be interested to know about Gainsborough’s other prolific son, Solario. He is in just about every pedigree over here. Lots and lots of Solario in jumping TB’s and shouldn’t be overshadowed either.

Terri

Solario is most famous in the US as the sire of Sun Princess, daughter of Mumtaz Begum and dam of Royal Charger. They jump!

One of my all-time favorite for hunters!

Love Caro, Wolf Power, Nearco, the Reel lines…

A very interesting thread … not knowing anything about TB lines, I’m trying to soak up as much as possible.

Just by fate, I did find this TB mare and added her to my broodmare band. I noticed she has a few of the horses that have been mentioned. But then again, I didn’t know if the ‘combination’ is good or bad? Or what event she would be most suited for from the looks of her bloodlines? I do remember being told she was ‘older bloodlines’…

As one person mentioned, there was just something about her I liked …

 Holly, check out my Waquoit mare’s pedigree, then:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/cinamazing

oooh…I like her pedigree! I would expect a tall and very good moving/jumping mare (just based on her pedigree ;)). That looks like a pedigree I’d like for an event horse prospect!!!

Horse Chestnut (SAf) – yes, that’s actually the name of a stallion, that was imported from South Africa, stood at Claiborne for awhile – not sure where he is now, but – he has some really nice sportlines, IMO. Look how close up Grey Sovereign is (sire of his 2nd dam). Nice outcross bloodlines, all nice. Anyone have a horse or mare in sport by him? Viney – what are your thoughts about him? Never hear him mentioned…

He’s back in South Africa, at Drakenstein Stud.

I only know a little about TB bloodlines, but I was excited when I saw the pedigree of Action This Day (standing in Indiana for 1K).

http://www.pedigreequery.com/action+this+day

Good, yes?

Action This Day–good pedigree, yes, for sport. He’s not been a very good sire for racing, though. Does that also mean that he can’t pass on talent for sport? Anyone have thoughts on that?

The ones like him would be great to have a sport breeder grab and stand to the sport market. Would he be accepted based on his earnings and 2 y.o. championship to any wb registries? Stallions like him are at risk for being shipped abroad or …

Thank you, I do, too.:yes::smiley: She’s actually not so tall - 16hh on tip-toes…on an uphill… with a broken stick…used by a blind man… on a dark night…blindfolded. :slight_smile:

She’s a very stout mare, actually, but her 1st foal is a TALL gelding (by Coromino) with very nice conformation and movement - haven’t checked his jump yet, and her 2nd foal, is a filly (by Apiro)- she is an uncanny dead ringer for Pilot.

LOL. Well…tall genes are in her I would bet. Most of the Waquoit offspring that I’ve seen were quite tall and leggy…I knew one that was 17.3 hands out of smaller mare! And I love Grey Dawn up close in a pedigree…let alone doubled up like you have with her! Often very good movers and jumpers. I have no doubt that she (and her offspring) will jump  especially with who you are breeding her too;)

Are you breeding for hunters? Really…those crosses could probably go in any direction.

 still a vitally important line in TB racing - the female family of AP Indy…

thanks for that Viney - something to consider for sure.
