Definitely not a friend.
So if I’m out by the 21st yes it’s the same. But she had no idea the exact day I was leaving she announced the day rate. In the end I think I won’t be screwed more than what was essentially full board and leaving early. But still the very notion that my charges could end up much higher than full board with no contract steams me.
If Ghazzu is even 10 hours from you, contact them immediately and be so grateful.
A big thank you from me Ghazzu.
Thank you Ghazzu! I’m working on an exit for this weekend.
Loudlaugh Ghazzu is a good and honorable horsewoman, you will be safe with her if need be
Even if you dont end up paying more because you leave by the 21st, you have no idea what more nutcase ideas she has up her sleeve. The trainer is showing you who she is. Believe her.
This . At this point, I’d seriously consider moving the horse into a suburban backyard if you have access to one. I’d also be prepared for the possibility of having to have the trailer park on the public road & you physically walking the horse off the property to meet it.
It is rare that COTH agrees on anything, in this case I doubt you will find anyone who does not agree that you have ever right to be upset about this.
If you have to, take your horse for a trail ride and load it onto a trailer down the street…
This might be worth a phone call to a lawyer. You have been paying by the month for a long time. She accepted your August month’s payment without mentioning any alterations in your month to month agreement. Almost two weeks later she springs the altered charges on you.
I suspect that even verbal/unwritten contracts require notice prior to payment of changes to the agreement.
Good point. Falls under estoppel.
Do NOT tell the “trainer” you are leaving this weekend. If you’ve given her a date like the 21st, continue to allow her to think that is the date you’re leaving. Just show up and ship your horse off to its happy, stress-free new home.
Given the unpleasantness since you gave notice, perhaps this is her way of trying to get you to leave sooner. It’s a jerk move regardless of the reason - but either way it’s probably better to move sooner than later.
I once gave polite notice that I was leaving (moving out of state!) to a BO at a barn I’d been work-trading part of the board, cleaning stalls. She fired back a rather snotty email, was clearly irritated that I was leaving and sent me a bill for the full last month with some remarks about my horse not leaving the property until I’d paid. I had to kindly remind her that I had actually paid the first month in full, so any work I did was credited to the following month and in fact SHE was going to owe ME… but that we could just call it even. She cold shouldered me until I left, except to complain about my stall cleaning skills.
If you leave by the 15th is she going to refund you the two weeks you already paid for? I’d guess not!
They accepted the August payment so clearly you paid for the full month. Since you gave your 30 days well in advance of leaving, I don’t see why they feel they can get another cent out of you for August?
I wouldn’t pay another dime.
I’m agreeing with what everyone else said: Get out of there, ASAP. This trainer is not your friend, as @TheJenners said.
Keep an eye on her behavior very closely. You might need to have the police escort you out. It happens.
So I get through the very uncomfortable countdown to horse moving. Have shipper going to get him Sunday. And then…hurricane is due to hit the region on…Sunday. Currently railing at the universe. Working with shipper to see what other days are possible because Monday may be affected by weather too.
Darn it, the universe is not cooperating with you at all, is it?
When all of this is done, you will certainly be taking a huge sign of relief!
Oh I’m so angry at the universe right now because I took a few days off from work starting Monday. I can rearrange my schedule but wtf?!??
Can you get the shipper to come a day early?
Just asked!!!
And nope. They can’t get him tomorrow. Aaaarrrrggghhhh. This is excruciating.
