The "Bring Chrome Home" crowd is batty, but...

Until now my exposure to the Chromies has been through this thread. But the BCH FB page was highlighted in my feed this morning for some reason, and I ventured forth. Oh my! If you have a few minutes (and brain cells) to kill, check out the thread about AP and the Travers. Starting with this gem:

“What I think is sad is that California Chrome is already being forgotten. Not one mention of him during The Travelers Stakes. A remarkable horse who did his best. Thanks to the majority owner, his name not brought up once.”

Chrome is the “true champion”. Long live Chrome. OMG these folks are totally nuts. A few people do reserve some hatred for AP’s owner but most either don’t care or think he will be taken care of well, unlike the travesties that have been heaped upon the one true champ… or should that be “travelersties”…

Reading this thread has been more than entertaining.

I just keep wondering how these people locked onto CC and not some other horse… say AP who’s been crammed into the same metal crates over and over as he crisscrosses the country pursing just the perfect race. Maybe it is because his pony gets to travel with him and he’s not family or feed deprived…?[/QUOTE]

They’re starting on AP too. I’ve seen lots of comments since the Travers that reek of BCH - he looks “sad” and the owner is “greedy” (never mind that they’re distributing winnings to charities and paying out the arse for insurance), lots of “he should be retired!” and a few “they need to turn him out to play with Smoky!”

So… brace for it, “Free American Pharoah” is coming.

Not one mention of him during The Travelers Stakes.

It is gems like these, along with the “Who is Steven Cauthen?” remarks that let you know just how oblivious these people are :lol:

The Travelers Stakes?? Oh good grief.:uhoh: And why would they mention him on the Travers broadcast? He didn’t run in the Travers last year and he’s not training or racing right now.

Speaking of clueless, the admin posted a video of CC parading past the crowd, in which he becomes worked up about the crowd noise. They think it is so cute that he is “prancing”. I guess they don’t realize that he was probably scared from all the noise.

After all the uproar and complaining about thin and tucked up Chrome looked in England, it’s kind of funny since this video shows pretty much the same thing they were complaining about. He looks a bit long backed and the kind that naturally wants to tuck up–a bit wasp-waisted. If the video were clearer and more in focus I’d just bet that one could see his ribs too! ( I think he looked far more bulked up and muscled when he was galloping in England.)

Horse racing is doomed if these are the new “fans”…

I agree.

But these “fans” don’t go to the races or visit the tracks, they don’t bet on the horses. That’s what irks me the most - they think they matter to this horse and its people, but they don’t. They don’t even watch racing - they just have an unhealthy obsession with the horse and his relations. It’s creepy as hell.

Here is a ‘fan’ complaining about lack of media coverage for California Chrome:

‘It’s like a treasure hunt looking for ANY little bit on Chrome! Remember the 135,000 fans he used to have? And now we can only read about all the other horses with very little said about our boy! Martins made sure they screwed all that up for us, and I’m sure they’re gleeful over that! I guess that’s what it’s going to be!’

Well, ma’am, the reason all the Chrome FB websites were taken down is due to her administrator encouraging her readers to rant-bomb the Martins and the Shermans to the point of ‘we don’t need this.’ BCH are the most clueless people on the planet. Need more info? Ask the administrator to go to the sources to get it – can she contact them? No, because she has burned so many bridges with her wild-eyed, incorrect speculation she has no legitimacy. Taylor Made is keeping the publicity at a minimum probably because of the crazies. We’ll see if they get their ‘fan day.’ Chrome is due back in training sooner than they expect.

This wouldn’t happen in any other sport. There is NO way I’d go on a football forum and utter a word because I don’t know anything about football. If all I wanted to do was talk about ONE individual player and stalk the managers for not handling that player, I’d be sniffed out as a whackdoodle right-quick.

Sad that the morons don’t realize that the official CC page was the Sherman’s, not the Martin’s page. Did it to themselves the dumba$$es, they couldn’t behave like civilized fans and be respectful of all his connections. Oh well.

As for fan day I honestly don’t see that happening. And I bet the “open door policy” as it existed for company at the track doesn’t anymore either.

Most days on the Taylor Made FB page showcasing other horses such as AP, a BCH ‘fan’ will pipe up wondering why Chrome is not mentioned and asking for news of him – like Taylor Made has no one else under their roof and the FB page exists only for Chrome.

They also don’t realize that unless Chrome goes back into training he is generally “yesterday’s news.” Once he truly becomes a breeding stallion, he will probably disappear from the news–unless he becomes either a huge success or a failure.

To be fair there’s probably very little to be said about a horse in rehab anyway. It’s not a super exciting process unless something bad happens.

Oh dear. BCH just posted some pictures of “their horse” and most of clueless wonders can’t tell that they’re yearling pictures. Comments about how unkempt he is etc…sigh. I’m surprised they haven’t shared TM’s post that they have an announcement coming up about CC, though one idjit commented (on one FB page that shared) that if the announcement is that CC is racing in the BC, Victor is going to have a tough decision to make on which horse he’s going to ride.

If the ‘announcement’ is a possibility of an anticipated ‘fan day’ in KY, it would have to be held quite quickly. Chrome is due back in CA shortly. The colt is expecting a visitor at Taylor Made soon (and it’s not the Coburns).

Yes, BCH has added their comment under the TM ‘announcement coming’ banner that he should be retired.

Go to Martin Racing facebook–it is a cartoonish set of new jockey silks.

The BCH fans are rabbiting on in TM’s latest photo of Chrome held by his groom ‘how well’ he appears and ‘much better than overseas.’ Truthfully, there are photos of him in Newmarket that are no different (but then, they are too ignorant to acknowledge it).

Oh boy. Taylor Made has announced CC Fan Days on Sept. 25th and 26th. Tickets are $10. IMO, that’s too low of a price - it won’t weed out the crazies.

They are charging?!? That is unprecedented I believe.
