Another great post: This from Phyliss Andrews commenting on a picture from Dubai last year with the Sheik and Chrome: “This is one funny pic to me. CC is eyeballing the guy with the dress on who is trying to get some smacky mouth from him. Watch it bubba ! LOL”. They were saying how great is was that the Sheik flew Chrome over in such luxurious fashion but they would not recognize him if he was standing in front of them. Priceless.
Frosted is in Dubai too, will we see a ‘Bring Frosted Home’ page? lol
“Who is this Frosted you speak of? Who is Silver Charm? Cigar? Like…cigars?”

I made the mistake of checking out one of the Frosted FB pages. Lots of Frosty Kisses. Shudder. No comments on how skinny he looks though.
Oh and the moderator of the Frosted page liked this comment:
And you guys saying you can’t wait to see the race. Chrome and Frosted already raced year before last in the Kentucky derby. I love Frosted cause the coloring is absolutely gorgeous. But American pharaoh against Chrome and Frosted is what I want to see
I am happy that we don’t have those crazy horse racing fans here.

It’s too bad really.
If they were willing to learn something (anything really…) about the subject of their obsession they might find relief from their overwhelming anxiety, staggering waste of emotional energy, and sleepless nights.

I think they like it.
I’m not on facebook but for those that are, the Bloodhorse FB page is your chance to reply to that idiocy. Already the whacko comments are pilng up.

Yes, I suppose some of them must.

I don’t get it. What’s so special and wonderful about CC? He looks like any other racehorse to me, and it’s not like he has an impressive pedigree or stellar race record.
Agreed 100%. I often wonder this too. To me, he is not exceptionally well put together or attractive and was not even the best of his crop. Plus, we had a grand slam winner this year. It has to be the “blue collar” story.

It is puzzling, especially considering that the nice “blue collar story” was toast (the embarrassing display of poor sportsmanship shown by the, now former, minority owner) after the Belmont.

As it turns out the “blue collar” was only 30% of the story. I would have preferred the 100% story. It would have stayed the Blue Collar outbursts at several of the races and spared us all the the constant barrage of the melodrama of buying back their reputation.
I come from a long line of “blue collar” and don’t appreciate being labelled as loud mouth.
He is so abused!

Why the CRAZIES specifically? Who knows. I never got the Barbaro thing. Big bay, snapped a leg, probably should have been euthed immediately, rest of his full siblings were only ‘meh’ horses. Why people fixated on him, I have no idea. People are weird.
I never got the FOB madness, but to me Barbaro was a lot more impressive than Chrome, both in looks and performance on the track.

See, I don’t get the people who are negative on Chrome’s looks. Nice face, nice color. His front legs may or may not have been a bit wonky but he ran fine so it doesn’t matter. Barbaro never made an impression on me other than ‘eh, another silly name’ and just because he was undefeated in a few starts people were on the wishful-thinking train again but nothing said ‘special’ to me (and his brothers sure showed there wasn’t anything special about the nick). Then he snapped his leg and turned into a circus. At least there I kind of get the crazies hoping for a miracle happy ending though if I ever get an x-ray that bad on a horse where I have a deciding vote the ‘fan response’ would incline me towards just quietly euthing and saying no more about it rather than dealing with the zoo and inevitable weirdos when it goes south later. (Well, and I’m not one for putting down at the drop of a hat but if the vet told me the odds were bad the horse could ever even safely be turned out again, let alone any kind of work or breeding I hope I’d have the nerve to do it before laminitis even became an issue…)
I almost wonder if actually DOING it, really winning the Triple Crown, kind of helped Pharoah avoid the wackadoodles. There’s no real poor-horsie underdog element. The plan to retire him got set so no fake hand-wringing about ‘overworking’. There’s no wanting him to prove anything, he already did it. Plus since he actually won EVERYBODY knows who he is. No getting to feel like a special snowflake.

I’m afraid it seems BCH is their hobby. SIGH

Can’t believe the comments there about AP appearing ‘thin’ in a photo from Del Mar. Does it ever stop???

It’s just a matter of opinion, as with anything - some people like apples, others prefer oranges. I thought Barbaro was drop dead gorgeous. I loved his build, color, face…and I personally do not really find Chrome to be exceptionally attractive in my opinion…way too crooked, lanky, high headed for MY taste. I think Lea is a beautiful chestnut with chrome - prettier face, more correct. It’s just a matter of opinion. I do think ALL horses are beautiful in their own way.
I agree with Kim on the relative attractiveness. I usually am more drawn to a horses conformation than color.

I’m very drawn to expression/presence… Which is why I loved Barbaro so much after seeing him in person. He was lovely, but it was the way he looked at people that I found so appealing. Look of eagles, or what have you.
Chrome never really gave me that, but I think of him as cute and sweet and really enjoy him.
AP is interesting, such a supremely good athlete, wrapped in a package that could be any of the CANTER horses at the R&R farm that let you lay down and nap with them.
