The "Bring Chrome Home" crowd is batty, but...

I saw the news he wasn’t running last night and I checked out the Bring Chrome Home page for their reaction…sad. I don’t understand how you can claim to love a horse but then can also say you are happy to see it injured or ill.

While it is true hoof abscesses are a common cause of lameness and most are drained and heal no problem, any injury or illness can turn bad. Many years ago, before I owned her, my horse almost died from a hoof abscess. The vet could not find it to drain as she didn’t respond to testers and it was a few weeks until it finally burst through her coronary band. My trainer, her owner at the time, was starting to consider putting her down towards the end because she was so miserable. Thank goodness it burst when it did.

Hope CC isn’t in too much pain, has a speedy recovery, and has safe races and happy times ahead of him, wherever in the world he may be.

Hilarious. Someone made a comment about how they’re going to try him at steeplechasing and aim him at the Grand National, and a couple folks appear to have believed it. Who did that? LOL

And as predicted, an old photo of the horse taken in CA, looking exactly how he does in every photo, and one of the first comments is about how sad he looks “over there.”

I need to stop even looking. Going to get blocked here soon.

Oi. Someone’s reaction on that page to him getting an abscess was “Thank God! Chrome must have an angel watching over him! I think God is trying to tell them something.”

What? First of all, that’s a horrible thing to say. Who would say ‘thank god’ to an injured horse? Wouldn’t they rather he be healthy and fit to run? And secondly, when was the last (or first) time any of these people were even near a horse? They’re like people who think they’re experts on dog care because they saw a dog on TV once.

Never pays to try to make sense with crazy.

This has been my first chance to actually go read that facebook page.

 <----Me after reading just a couple of posts.

Like this one:

He’s still beautiful. Firm believer of everything happens for a reason. Obviously he needs a rest. When our horses get an abscess we are told no work for 6 weeks

Six weeks off for an abscess? Wow.

Chromies are impressively nuts. I ran across some this morning not on the BCH page and  - He’d be happier in his stall at the track in CA, they’re taking horrible care of him because he has a bruise/abscess, someone else suggested they should keep him in pads so he never gets bruised again… CRAZY PEOPLE.

Six weeks off for an abscess? Wow.

That’s for Breyer models, I think… I think it’s the shipping both ways that takes up so much time.

I’m thinking it depends on how the abscess heals. I’ve had some horses go off for quite a while with an abscess.

As have I. But the average simple abscess is not a six week no work lay-up, like the person in that group implies.

That’s a good one!

This is how the race panned out without Chrome… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywD82lMpZuE

The favorite, Free Eagle, wins in a thriller from the Grey Gatsby.

A fantastic training performance by Dermot Weld to win with this horse after a 9 month lay-off and the horse’s only 4th ever start.

Btw, American trainer Wesley Ward had a winner at Royal Ascot today, winning the Queen Mary G2 with the 2yo filly Acapulco turning in a jaw dropping performance… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRuKoc7yZ4k
Some serious turn of foot on that filly!!

So I am confused, maybe someone can explain all this so it makes sense … and apologies that some of this is feedback from another forum …

So the “Bring Chrome Home Crowd” referenced in the thread subject were against Chrome going to Newmarket in the first place. But now that he missed his big race, some of those same folks are wringing their hands over the rumor that he is coming back to the States for the Arlington Million, meaning he will never have started in GB. Waste of a trip to England, or something. ???

How does that work, exactly? What is the fuss about? I have yet to get a grasp on what the fuss is about.

Meanwhile Chrome, having loved his spring months at racehorse camp on the grassy gallops, is looking for a job as an exercise pacesetter so he can stay in Newmarket forever … well that’s the gossip I heard anyway, from my OTTB, who knows horses who know other horses …

The just like to fuss for the sake of fussing. Chrome is miserable and homesick don’tcha know, they’re going to kill him over there OMG OMG OMG!!

You’re confused because you are expecting them to be logical and rational.

Do the Chromies know that he has been entered (or pre-entered) in that other race on the 4th of July? I guess it will depend on how quickly he recovers from his abscess.

The crazy just keeps getting stronger. They continue to persist that England is “wretched” and lambast Perry Martin for “not even showing up” when a simple read of DAP Racing’s FB page would tell anyone with half a brain that flight delays can happen to anyone.

There were some pictures of Ascot on the Coburns of California Chrome Facebook page including everyone (including Raul and Art) all decked out nice and fancy, really cute. Coburn seems to have learned his lesson from the Belmont and is acting as a nice and sane go-between for the Chrome fans. Art also seems to be enjoying his sojourns to places he otherwise would have never gone, Dubai and Ascot.

I hope they keep him there and try him on July 4. Couldn’t they do that and still make the Arlington Million in August? Isn’t Chrome one of those horses that are supposed to thrive on training?

According to the DAP page which seems to be the Facebook home of the Martin family, they had a series of plane delays and were unable to book another flight. Another nice thing, Mrs. Martins sister in law gave up her paddock pass so Raul the groom could go to see the race.

Aside from that the crazy keeps on keeping on with someone on the DAP page, apparently a refugee from the Bring Chrome Home page who claims to have seen Chrome limping (fair enough that’s what horses with abscesses do), insinuating that the horse was deliberately sabotaged. I’m not sure who they think did it: an evil vet bribed by Perry Martin to prevent an embarrassing loss, Steve Coburn still in a snit over the horse being sent to England, Art and or Alan Sherman unhappy over Martin calling the shots or Rae Guest not wanting to be associated with a debacle.

My money is on the BCH person, whoever he or she is, in the stall with a safety pin–or Colonel Mustard in the Library.

Can you handle the truth ?

So the Coburns, Art, Alan and Raul arrived home today, which prompts much affronted whinging from the crazies about how CC is abandoned once again and further vilification of Perry and Denise Martin being the (in the BCH crazy crowd’s words) “lowest on earth” which I think is starting to get out of hand. At some point, defamation and libel suits start making a lot of sense. Where the hell do people think they have a “right” to lambast someone because he isn’t doing what they “think” is best (considering the morons have no financial stake in the horse at all) and try to deify the other partners. At what point should the Coburns be stepping in to tell the idiots to shut the eff up?

Besides, I thought it was pretty smart of the Martins to make lemonade out of lemons and wear their Ascot finery to watch Hope’s Love race. Yeah, they were there for that one, despite the loonies insisting that they don’t “care” about horses.
