HJ, If you only knew the HALF of it! The Branch Davidians have nothing on that place.
PS If I see a UFO I will assume it is the “mothership” coming in for a landing!
I was involved in a specific example in which I knew of a horse that was put to sleep for insurance money. The owner was offered many free homes for this horse who was lame, as a result of OCD. She only had mortality insurance. The argument was that this horse would eventually die or have to be put down because of the OCD…
I just wanted to let you know the opposite can also be true. I had a colt that was under contract with a purchase agreement to buy the horse at weaning - after a successful pre-purchase agreement. I had arranged for major medical & mortality on the colt during the period. A few months later, and before the sale was final, he came in very lame. X-rays showed that he had a fracture at the fetlock - just up to the joint.
My vet recommended putting him down - not even knowing he was insured - just because of his poor prognosis. I wanted to give him a chance, even if he could only be a companion. I would not have kept him alive if he was not totally comfortable. I cancelled his purchase agreeement, and put him on stall rest for 2-3 months. At then end of the period, the fracture was beginning to fill in, so we turned him out. I knew that my insurance would no longer pay, but I just had to try. A year later, he had not taken a bad step, and did flex 100% sound. I cut his price in half, and sold him to a wonderful home. His x-rays are totally clean, and at his pre-purchase, the vet couldn’t even see where it had been. Oh, btw, I never turned in the major medical claim either. It is not about the money. It is about saving a wonderful colt.
Anthem, the only answer I can give to your question is this. While I do not make the final decision on this matter, I feel an obligation to the poor animals who were done away with. I am an animal lover. One should not be summarily forgiven for this act. No, it is not up to me, but if my support to this issue somehow makes a difference, it is important to me that I at least try.
On another note anthem, I think someone may have hacked your friend oxer’s account. The other night an incoherent post was made under her name that was filled with spelling errors and bad grammar. You might want to alert her to this.
uh… Sheila… your Insurance Co. does NOT condone you offing your horse ( if it is insured) . But only because it costs them money. Those who off and those who have to pay those that off ONLY care about the money. Those who send off to slaughter and those that slaughter ONLY care about the money.

showponymom, I personally just don’t read posts when they are written by certain posters. That way, I don’t waste time and don’t need to figure out the pretzel logic.
After reading these boards for so many years, it has saved me a lot of time, not to mention my sanity.
I highly recommend the technique, and you will soon figure out who to skip.
Thanks for the advice, I am learning who to read and who to take with a grain of salt.
I lost my sanity when I bought my first pony and got into this years ago.
Interesting glass house of worms there. Anyone on that petition ever do OK at tax time because of a horse that got sent down the river??
Not one Huckleburg. It’s gotta say something for the guy that no one associated with PV can bring themselves to sign.
and who are those people?..
COTH took money for the ads run on behalf of PV. I can’t see why any of the pubs would not take money for this purpose.
Chanda, I’m confused. Are you saying that the members of the horse welfare committee are not concerned about the atrocities of the past and won’t do what they can to make sure they won’t happen in the future? Because that will be the message sent to the horse world if the horse killers are allowed back into the USEF.
I just signed. We are up to 568.
Expensive horses normally = insurance. To protect said buyer.
Well, not as often as you would think. The premiums are so costly as to make it a difficult decision.
There are maybe five horses out of twenty-five insured in my current barn. My last barn; I think it was about two out of twenty. None of my horses have ever been insured.
There are of course lots of people that do insure horses, but it’s certainly not so common as you can say an uninsured horse wouldn’t be present in a top barn.
I think this dialog is a side track and a tangent to get us off course. The facts are simple and clear. We have people who have been convicted in a court of law as felons with regard to horse activity
We want the USEF to know there are a lot of Members who do not want them beck rubbing shoulders with us at our competitions.
They can be as devious and manipulative as they can with those who think winning is more important than what is a moral principle.
The simple fact has to be that we of the “grassroots” object. It is a poor example for the children. The “children” includes young unsophisticated trainers who will think that such goings on are an acceptable behavior because it makes the likes of PV and BW rich.
I don’t think we are required to prove his guilt that is admitted and what is open is whether or not he has sufficently suffered by his penalty.
Our bracelets are to remind everyone about the innocent horses that suffered a premature end to satisfy greed and ego.
I’ve seen the Streetwise tape and it is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever seen.
Just curious if any of the pro-reinstatement people have seen it…
Thanks WA for all your work on this.
If you believe he should not be reinstated please go sign the petition.
Sgray - A couple more to add! (Can you tell I was in the Chicago area when all this was going on! )
Lisa Brandon (sp?)
John Garvey
Danny Jayne
The latter two conspired to burn down John’s barn to collect the insurance on the barn. Danny did the actual arson. If I remember correctly, 26 horses were killed in the fire. Of course, I’m opening up another whole can of worms (no pun intended) here by bringing up barns being burned, and I don’t know if they were set down for this. I’m going to have to do some research, although some of you who are more handy with the computer may beat me to it.
Harry - trust me. You don’t really want to see the Streetwise video. I believe you can find it somewhere on line, but it will leave you feeling hollow and wondering how there can be such ugliness in the world.
I’ve been pondering something else and trying to figure out how to word an email with my question to USEF. Many pages ago, Hopeful Hunter posted a reply she received from USEF which said they were merely “enforcing” the suspensions handed down by the AHSA (seemingly to emphasize that they are NOT the AHSA.) This is making me wonder if it would be possible for folks to merely wait out their suspensions and then simply apply for USEF membership rather than have to go through a hearing process. As I’ve been reading the posts about the rules and USEF’s apparent take, it seems like there might be a loophole. Any thoughts on this? Or am I just being paranoid? (Which is always a possibility…)

But, it IS based on behavior and action.
Every case is individual, and requires individual scrutiny.
Agreed. And individual scrutiny is definitely what PV is getting, for better or worse!
Big Dawg, probably due to the fact that this thread is the “NO REINSTATEMENT” thread, you might find it to be one sided. What an epiphany! With that said DUDE, I think that my posts are concise enough that they do not need any clarification. If someone feels they need a further explanation, they can freely ask me, they are not in need of your footnotes.

Like Einstein, I know there is way and an answer and I just haven’t found it yet. Maybe if you twist the arguments around long enough we can make it work for us.
For example USEF has no supeona powers but every show is required to produce all of its records and every entry form for three years.
People have been convicted by the Hearing Board because they couldn’t prove their innocence in the past. So maybe, we won’t win the point but maybe it’s like catching the flasher in the subway with his fly open. Maybe we can expose the holes in the system.
Interesting analogy, Snowy
What I have found is that most people simply do not know about PV’s history and assume people of his nature are not active in the horse industry. Please forward the petition. Education and awareness is needed to defend the ethical integrity of competitive riding. Don’t let the Big “Fawg’s” fool you!
