The "NO REINSTATEMENT" thread.

He should be barred for life…period…no discussion. Anything less is a joke and a copout.

Once again, anthem35 this is not about PV. But rather re-instatement of people who were suspended due to their acts. Can we please stay on topic?

Well, I would be happy to sign, but no space to down load another browser on my hard drive at the moment. So if any of you would be willing to add my name Darlyn E Sandgren USEF #305696 for me I would be happy. Also a member of USDF, AHS, ISR/OLD, AWS, and BWP/NAD is in the mail.

I think they will need a camera with a date and time on it for evidence. They need proof.

Ohhhhh please. Every public action he’s taken in the last 10 years has been in aid of reinstatement. All those egregiously self-serving ads???

Bali… i’m just really confused right now. Help me out.

This is excerpted from “What About the Horse? Controversy in the Equestrian Show Scene” by Lindsay Turcotte.

It says it all for me.

"When all else fails, when the horse has been beaten, trained with less-than desirable methods, and drugged into oblivion, and he no longer has what it takes to win constantly, there is one final way for an owner or trainer to get their money’s worth out of the horse: Insurance fraud. In 1998 thirteen owners and trainers suffered expulsion from the American Horse Show Association for anywhere from five to twenty five years after their horses suffered much worse fates than they. Nancy Banfield, from New York, arranged to have her horse, Rub The Lamp, electrocuted. Lisa Brandon participated in the murder of the horse Cloud Castle. Jerry Farmer, from Georgia, was involved in electrocution schemes. Ross Hugi, D.V.M., witnessed a trainer kill the horse Jatomic Streaker by flipping him out of a horse trailer and beating the horse to death with a hammer. He then falsified the cause of death records. Alan Levinson, from Illinois, schemed to kill Rainman, who was later electrocuted. George Lindemann JR, from Florida, and Marion Hulick, from Massachusetts, hired a killer to electrocute Charisma, who brought $250,000 in insurance money. Ronald Mueller from Spring Grove, Illinois killed many horses by means of sledgehammer, crowbar, live cremation, and electrocution. Barney Ward of Brewster, New York, arranged to electrocute four horses. Steve Williamson of Chicago, Illinois stood “lookout” while the electrocution of Empire took place. He later helped create the colic symptoms that would be deemed the cause of death.

These are only some of the cases of insurance fraud that happen world wide. They are all centered in the United States, not because this is a problem exclusive to the United States, but because these are the cases that were prosecuted by the American Horse Show Association in 1998. Other means of killing horses for insurance purposes are by stuffing ping pong balls up the horse’s nostrils, causing him to thrash to his death within five minutes, and using a baseball bat or a two-by-four to simulate an accidental leg break. All too often, these procedures take place, for monetary desire."

Can you see one of US doing THAT??? You may pet champions, photograph and camcord away…you’d be shot for less if this was the horse show!

Actually at Dressage at Devon, I have always invited anyone that wanted to - including people that lived nearby who wanted to show their kids the horseys, into my stalls to pet/play with the foals. They were also invited to help themselves to coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, doughnuts, etc at my hospitality table.

And let’s not forget that Barnie Ward repeatedly showed up at shows and the USEF (then AHSA) spent membership money on legal fees to assure that their ban on him coming onto show grounds was ENFORCEABLE.

I’m so tired of this “finger in your eye” attitude by people who break the rules - and in some cases HEINOUSLY. And are we to accept these were just totally isolated incidences? There are some mistakes in life that saying “I’m sorry” isn’t ENOUGH. Living with the consequences IS THE PUNISHMENT.

And Snowbird is right - if the USEF pulls some candy-a**ed move here and let’s anymore of these people back - they should be STRIPPED of the NGB TITLE by the USOC.

In the past it was hard to get the evidence in front of the membership. Now that we have the internet more people can see the facts/impact and voice their opinion. I thank VirginiaBred telling her story b/c there are more like her.

Erin- If you were speaking of training with someone who habitually sends unsuccessful show horses to slaughter, then I apologize.

No dearie; now listen carefully…new violations of new rules by those that he employs to go to shows for him…new violations of new rules for riders that exhibit with said trainer employee. An employee i.e. some paid for services is in essence an agent of said party. Being his agent is a new violation.

I am afraid Varsity if you keep this up you will bury Paul Valliere in your own words.

Never miss any opportunity to do a good thing.

OK! so a synopsis please.

Is it possible to gain enough information for the USEF to be compelled to take action against anyone suspected of Rules Violation or not?

If not then in what sense are they a regulatory Federation? If they are not a Regulatory body then why do we belong? In other words if the point of a Federation is to make a Level Playing Field and there is no way to prove there are violations of the rules it seems to me it is a waste of time to have a Rule Book and have the rest of us punished with fines.

Essentially, there is very little interest in the Divisions Rated by USEF at the “grassroots” level. We have no vote and our opions don;t mean spit.

Perhaps that is our answer.

Any update on this initiative? I think its unfortinate that certain people are under a cloud of suspicion with regards to the bogus names on the petition.

Grace, I believe that to be a mute question. I can’t believe any insurance company would insure any horse with him as payee/proceeds recipient.

Amen, Snowbird.

Vandy, the point that Snowbird is making is that we don’t really see much of a middle ground here. PV and the other horse killers were convicted in a court of law of the deeds we are discussing. There’s nothing vigilante-like about the no reinstatement effort, nor has anyone suggested that there’s any question that PV and the others did what they were convicted of. We are saying that the crimes of which they were convicted are non-negotiably unforgivable, and that no abilities, connections, personal qualities, or whatever should diminish the fact that we don’t want the USEF to grant him the privilege of associating with the equestrian world on a professional basis.

There are crimes that lawyers and doctors commit, for example, which by virtue of being crimes against their profession, get them disbarred from their profession for life. I would suggest that a horse trainer killing a horse should earn the equivalent of disbarment for life, at the very least.

Donate it! Some college kid will cherish it…or a handicapped child in a theraputic program will have a dream come true. That’s how.

Kinda like those reality shows Snowy. For some reason, people want to watch them. Just think if we didn’t have all of these, where would those pent up tensions release themselves?

Sadly Harry you are quite right and there are no rules in the Rule Book under which the Federation can be charged with behavior not in the best interests of the sport.

However, the USOC is reponsible for the behavior of the NGB’s which it sanction and the Senate Commerce Committee is reponsible for misbehavior by the USOC.

THIS corporation had it’s first day December 1, 2003 and so they are not responsible for previous indescretions for enforcement of rules. They are now responsible and they have advertised their intention to enforce all rules in the Rule Books equally and fairly.

SO! We shall see. I have an appointment in June to go to Washington DC as a Member of the Leadership Trust of the NFIB. It is our annual privilege to meet with Members of Congress and surely the Commerce Committee of the Senate is on my personal agenda.

Anyone care to join me in Washington?

While we’re all waiting for petitiononline.com to get its act together…

Is anyone good with graphics? I stink at them.

In addition to the online petition, I’m doing a little microsite that contains a printable and re-useable version of the petition for those who want to take it to shows. But I’d loff to have a logo, and what I want is very, very simple.

Please PM me if you would like to take a shot at it. So to speak.
