The "NO REINSTATEMENT" thread.

THANK YOU Liz! I’ve signed, told about 900 friends on another list and also made a very small donation to the site.

Thank you for not just talking, but DOING something and for giving so many others an easy, effective way to participate!

There have always been ways. Not used however.

So Anthem, why did he have the horse killed? If so many people don’t care, he must have had good reason which could be explained to those who do still care.

first it was one horse. secondly it was not cruely put down., three tell me your source for the “ratting out his friends and wearing a wire” fourth–do you know paul?, have you ever trained with him?, do you know how he feels about horses?, do you know how long he has suffered over this? and if you don’t train with him why do you care? is this your goal in life to interfere with other people and decide for them whom they should ride with depending on your criteria? do you do this just in riding or in other areas of your life as well?
why don’t you simple mind your business and ride with whomever you wish. that’s your business and those of us who ride with paul feel that it is our business. so that would be a good start. ok?
-Oxer

Apparently PV trains people as well…

Obviously you have no agenda other than keeping this thread on page one.

for which I will be eternally grateful

BD, I think perhaps when you are “not poking the tiger” you probably have more in common with the people that support the no reinstatement than those that would not. Well, I find myself agreeing with you on at least the following:

Change the rule to lifetime ban for horse killers
Definitely room for improvement in the pharmaceutical end of things
Keep this thread on page 1

Perhaps your bark is worse than your bite? Very useful in big dogs.

I have never understood how people have gone on dealing with Paul like this never happened. For over twenty years, I considered Paul a friend. He was someone I saw and spoke with on almost a daily basis, and I was good friends with much of his barn staff.
I left the business not long after all this happened. In fact, it had such an effect on me that it was a catalyst for me leaving the business.
Since I stopped going to the shows shortly after all this broke, I have never seen Paul again. However, if I passed him on the street tomorrow, I would not stop to speak with him.
I spent over twenty years taking care of wonderful show horses. Their life is far from an ideal one, and I was 100% dedicated to taking the best care of them I possibly could, to the point of sacrificing everything else in my life. I cannot imagine ever forgiving, or forgetting, that Paul could have so little regard for the lives of the wonderful animals that were entrusted to his care.

Snowy…Is Joe Plemmons out and about in society at this moment?!..AND allowed to ply his “trade” at horse shows? I remember he was hanging out in New Hope a few years back…I think we had dinner with the guy occasionally …Christ.

Wow, the numbers have really grown in 24 hours. Perhaps the patron saint of animals is
blessing this petition

I have forwarded it to all my horsey friends and have been amazed at their quick response to sign.

Long live grass roots.

The problem as I see it is celebrity status. People still want to be friendly with OJ

I’m glad that all of you are so quick cry “witch” at me, when i am honestly telling you I TRIED EVERYTHING to get this case brought to attention. And for someone to have the nerve to tell me I’m no better than the people who committed these crimes!!! YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW ME!!! I called the police, they told me to go to the insurance company, so i went directly to the insurance company, and spoke with them about this case and every exact detail on it, and they treated me like I was outstepping my boundaries, and they threatened me that basically if I don’t back off they were going to slap a slander suit on me…I’m sorry…but where do I go from there? The bottomw line is, if the police or other authorities were to get involved, and they went to the Insurance Co. and the insurance co. says everything is legit, the trail will end there. I tried to tell the company they were being had, I talked to the adjuster on the claim, i sent her specific conversations that were held between the owner of the horse and I… I told her every detail I could. She never called back, she never did anything. The owner got her money. The horse is dead, I, and everyone else that knew the situation, did everything we felt we could… It’s really easy for all of you to sit here and tell me i did this wrong and that wrong…You think you could get farther fine…PT me and I’ll give you all the details and evidence and you can take it on yourself, but don’t you dare tell me that I am no better than the people who committed this crime, because you have no idea the pain i went through and the lengths I would have gone to to save that horse.

There is a reporter who would like to talk to Palm Beach County residents, seasonal or year-round, about the website and the petition.

PT me for how to contact the reporter.

Bumping this up with N&BT’s request - can anyone who lives even part time in Palm Beach County help?

Listen, believe me, I’d FAR rather not speak for publication EITHER, but I know I have to.

fwiw, I wrote to lodge my formal concerns about any potential application for reinstatement, and got into an interesting email exchange over the note. This was the last response I got…and honestly I’m not sure HOW to take it. Does it mean that USEF will have a different view of suspensions, or what???

Gina:

As I stated, your concerns have been noted; however, I am not sure if
you realize that the time frame for suspension against Mr. Valliere was
accessed by the AHSA and not USEF. This Federation is simply enforcing
the suspension.

Sarah, when someone goes to prison, they often lose other rights and privileges when they get out of prison. For instance, someone incarcerated for over a year loses their right to vote. Someone convicted of drunk driving, even after serving time in prison loses their license. Professionals lose their right to practice when convicted of certain crimes. The signatures on the petition will not bar reinstatement, it is going to be decided on by the USEF. They at, at their option, have the ability to reinstate or take public sentiment into consideration. At the same time this petition is being circulated, I am sure Mr. Valliere is taking action to present himself to the USEF in a favorable way.

To not sell the horse at a loss is I think an unforgivable pre-meditated and self serving decision. It is proved by his current actions.

But Snowbird-those are NOT his current actions, they were his actions 17 years ago.

A lot of time has passed, and a lot of things have changed.
While I am in no way asking you to forget, I am asking you to consider that he just might actually be sorry.

As you admit, you do not know him now.

Perhaps you should just LISTEN. It certainly couldnt hurt.

I don’t know any of these people. But from my reading of the AHSA’s statement from 10 years ago, PV has the right to file for reinstatement. I don’t read anything promising to reinstate him regardless of what ammends he has made, merely that they would be taken into consideration. I agree with War Admiral in that his actions so completely violated the USEF’s vision statement and the FEI code of conduct that it would be impossible to welcome him back. We would be giving the PETA and animal rights people ammunition that would make sense to the general population, not a good PR move for the USEF. I also agree with HJ that USEF will reinstate. Unless it becomes too uncomfortable for them to do so. Taking this info to the grassroots and also to the general animal loving public can make a difference. Let’s not limit ourselves to horse people. As NGB, USEF represents all of us who feel an obligation to protect the animals in our care.

Those of you in the NYC area: do you know any producers for any of the news shows like 60 Minutes, 20/20 or Dateline? It would be worth pitching a story to them.

I think Dateline may’ve done show on this waaaay back when. Though it’s a lifetime ago in tv land, perhaps still worth trying to pitch as a follow–up?

BRAVO!!!

The funds raised will need to go towards the objective, if you will, rather than to a charitable act. If the mission were to fail, and Mr. Valliere is reinstated, a charity in the name of Roseau Platiere would then be in order, especially if it could be awarded at a show that Mr. Valliere is certain to attend. I tend to think that a scholarship might not be the best choice, given that most of the juniors who ride also have the means to further their education. Just a thought, I am willing to be shot down on this opinion.

Someone really needs to edit the petition to say that it will not function with the AOL browser.

Well, I would be happy to sign, but no space to down load another browser on my hard drive at the moment. So if any of you would be willing to add my name Darlyn E Sandgren USEF #305696 for me I would be happy. Also a member of USDF, AHS, ISR/OLD, AWS, and BWP/NAD is in the mail.

Darlyn- it requires an email address to be added…
