Good detective work Erin!
I agree in that I’m sure there’s a grey area regarding different training techniques by many famous and not-so-famous trainers. But, for those who resorted to killing unsuccessful horses, it does beg the question, imo. Did, or how much did, these horses suffer before being murdered? Actually, maybe I don’t want to know.
I dunno, anthem, there are tearful apologies from public figures who have “done wrong” all the time. It’s sort of de rigeur, in fact.
Kobe Bryant apologized before he suited back up for the Lakers. Duke Cunningham, that California congressman who got indicted, was sobbing on TV apologizing to his friends, family and constituents.
It’s certainly not a pleasant task and I doubt anyone WANTS to do it, but many public figures do.
What about Carl??
thank you hiddenlake. Well stated!
And for all you naysayers and those who would defend the indefensible - that’s why we are protesting.
Both.
Never was good at biology.OK! it’s the y that’s the weak one. I remember when I was getting pregnant the old wives tale was you had to douche with barcarb because that little booger got kocked from acids. It must have worked because my first born was the designated male child.
Well, you can always download Mozilla Firefox, Darlyn. It works fine with that.

Yeah, it’s all great until that morning you get the call that your horse is dead.
Unless you think something would prevent him from figuring out a way to do this again.
That’s why I couldn’t keep my horse there. I’m positive they all receive top-notch care while they are ALIVE, it’s what could happen to them if they are not performing “up to par” that scares me.
But that’s just me.

OK y’all, I’m whupped and I’ve got to go sleep b/c I’ve got a big day tomorrow.
But before I go: in view of the fact that we’re probably going to get booted off of here soon, does anyone have any recommendations for Bulletin Board hosting software?? Preferably low-cost & low-volume…?? I’ll add a forum to www.noreinstatement.org if I can.
Thank you and goodnight…
Maybe this was for tax shelter reasons to not insure? If the horse dies, it would be written off as a loss. No need to insure. But if a horse is a hobby…
Ya know, I am probably one of the most anti-slaughter people on this board, but even I can see the difference between legal and illegal. Ping pong balls up the nose, crowbars and alligator clips all because someone is greedy and has too much ego to admit they made a mistake buying a horse or can’t get it to perform as expected is a whole lot different than the mindset of a breeder that sends his culls to auction where they are bought for slaughter. At least at the auction, they had a chance. PV’s, BW’s and GL’s never stood a chance.
Excellent point, Showponymom.
Exactly Shelia H, when we are standing in the middle of a stall somebody walks in with a camera and wants to know how YOU feel about such and such…just b/c your in wellies and have a horse on a public showgrounds. It happened to me about another trainer in another discipline in another county and not one of “their” shows. Splaining to the rest of the world about what and why we do is hard enough, let alone felony crimes forgiven.

Yes! it really is! We have two reports published by Phelps Media saying that Equitation Riders in the Maclay were showing horses owned by PV.
We have friends of PV who stable with him saying he has a proxy on his payroll. We have all of you that are his students and show giving PV credit and we have ads in the Chronicle giving him credit and Thank you! for his teaching.
Tsk! Tsk!
PV doesn’t own any horses–those were horses owned by others and held for sale…the kids took lessons from PV/and there is no rule stating that you cannot take lessons from a suspended person.
PV does not own Acres Wild Farm, and he has no payroll.
TSK/TSK yourself
Since some people aren’t getting the hint, I’m just going to delete every post from here on out that is not polite, respectful, nice, and actually contributing to the discussion. Got it?

anthem35 if you’ve been here then you should understand the difference between what a horse can do for you and what we need to do for the horses.
The next generation of youngsters coming up; and those not even born neeed the opportunity to have icons of this sport they can respect. An accident is what GM had in Florida when his horse was impaled on a pipe rail. An accident is not hiring a professional to make a horse’s death look like an accident.
Murder Inc. did that with people, they had just as good reasons as PV had unless he can tell me why it was different. I agree with you; being sorry speaking an apology is not good enough. If he was out of his mind…if his kids were starving and he was going to be homeless maybe I could find a soft spot. Even if he was drugged out of his mind maybe I could forgive him if he hadn’t taken the drugs himself.
I’m very glad for you that he can forgive you because a Quarter Horse is what you need. I am happy for you that he is willing to get the best he can out of you and your horse. And, if I could believe that he had learned his lesson I would be really happy for him.
BUT…as an icon of this sport like any Olympian they have to be above reproach. Character, honor and integrity are not just words they are part of an ideal. When that ideal has feet of clay it undermines everything. Please understand I hate to see wasted talent and I do believe that Paul Valiere has talent but right now his mission is to prove that bending the rules and tap dancing around them is evil.[/QUOTE
But Snowbird, there is so much you are missing.
What rules is he bending?
The rules does not say he can’t train, only that he cannot train on showgrounds.
AND he does NOT.
And as far as the next generation goes?
I am happy and proud to say that my plain old QH is now in the hands of an extremely talented 10 yr old.
And, as any kid would, he worships his trainer.
Unfortunately his trainer can’t watch him as he wins his first ribbon in Palm Beach.
But this kid knows the story, and kids are smarter than we give them credit for.
This kid has learned firsthand how much mistakes will cost you, and he is mad at Paul for that.
But I will tell you, that this sweet kid has been able to look at this without the hystrionics usually attributed to us older more judgenmental citizens, and was one of the first to offer his support.
So, yes, there is a lesson to be taught to our young ones in this sport…just not the one you expected.

I never thought I had an ‘agenda’…I just felt this thread is being 'run one-sided.

I find it of interest that most of PV’s supporters on this thread are competely incognito. Now that is certainly their right, and a basic on BBs. Still, most of the No REIN group is well known by everyone. Yes there are some big supporters who have ID’d themselves, but so many more who are showing up lately and suggesting that they know legions of people who are for reinstatement. If anyone wants to throw some names out of people in favor, I will give you 10 for each one of people who are against it.
PB don’t you find it interesting that many of these people are “new” posters but they seem to know everything that has been going on and sound so much like some other posters that have “disappeared”?? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Is it possible, now just think with me for a second…That perhaps…just perhaps…that they have heard about the attacks on someone whom they know well, and came here specifically to show their support???
Is there some fault with that?
