THE suspension list

Darren Frazier added now too ?!

Just a clarification on the Burtons,it says only the olders are suspended, not the youngers. They will probably just change all the Farms shows to Fences.

Well, I actually agree w/ you, cbv. I believe that was the original intent. However, it has now devolved into something else entirely for the reasons DMK has stated, and, er, therein lies the problem IMO.

Thoroughbreds! Everything else is just a horse.

I meant to mention this earlier and Old A/O just reminded me. Why is that horsepeople are so willing to write checks to trainers for horses. It should be considered “business” as in real estate. It’s really no different. There should be a contract, bill of sale, etc. and the funds should be transferred via bank or cashiers check directly to person selling horse so that they know it has been paid for. How many times do you hear the story of some trainer not having paid for some horse, etc. That is simple to fix. Pay the owner for the horse directly and pay the trainer the commission directly.

I’ve been away from the BB for awhile, so when I opened this thread I expected to read the names of dozens of BNT’s who had been suspended. However despite 80 pages there are only a few listed on the USA Equestrian website, only one of whose name I actually know!

So is there more to come? There seemed to be all this foreboding near the beginning of the thread, followed by some great discussions, but since then none of these “big name suspensions” aluded to have come about. I sure hope that nothing was swept under the rug or anything like that.

Anyone know what is going on?

Darker Horse

I guess… I was intrigued by your answer to why use Dex regularly… and forgive me I am honestly not trying to be rude or anything so please forgive me if this sounds so much.

If your jumper is having problems to the fact that your are injecting his coffin joint every six months, on dex regularly and bute at horse shows… creaking in his hocks… and getting more and more wear and tear why continue going along the same path with the said horse?

I guess what I am trying to say is that why continue to use him when he is obviously beginning a decline? I can understand taking him to shows lightly and maybe at a lower level.

I think I am just overly sensitive… I have an aged mare who became severly unusable at the age of 15 due to lameness compounded by a few years with less than meticulous care and a full workload… in other words she was not used lightly when she started her decline and by the time I owned her… six months later she was so lame that even a nerving did not help. I knew she was heading downhill (did not know it would be so perm) but I purchased her anyway since she was the love of my life. But I cant help but wish her previous owners had treated her more lightly so even at 19 I could at least enjoy her company on a trail ride.

Well I think your godmother should be banned.

As for your question about the Florida circuit, some guy named Dave won the first big $ GP at Winterhaven in the 60’s, so I think we can place the genesis of the winter circuit around 1960.

LOL SMACK… I DIDN’T SEE IT COMMING.

And Findeight…

… Do you REALLY think the europeans don’t use medication? Where do you thin the BNT on this side of the ocean GET the meds that don’t test?

Let’s Roll

My head hurts from trying to follow that circular logic.

Sandstone, let me see if I have this straight. You don’t think the trainers should be blamed because they thought their vet was supplying them with a magic bullet that would not test while “helping” their horses’ performance, correct?

So … it’s not their fault that their vet was wrong even though they were using the magic bullet to do something specifically against the rules?

Oh, oh…The reason why I am here replying.

I knew a lady that is still on the list. She did not pay her show bill, refuses to & does not care. For some reason, she is allowed to show at the “county level” in southern Cal.

Really makes me wonder.

Flash44 - your posts on this thread exactly echo the thoughts in my head (about this issue in particular AND society as a whole).

I think your assessment of society is spot-on correct. I mean, I work in Philadelphia, a city where a mayor was re-elected yesterday despite the fact that his administration is the subject of a federal investigation. This seems to have made him, incredibly, a folk hero!

That is probably what will happen with the trainers on the “list” as well. It will be interesting to see if any of their businesses suffer, or if it will just serve to prove that some horse show poeple will just associate with ANYONE if they think it will win them some lousy ribbons at a horse show.

ROFLMAO!!!

Wow Chanda, your post made A LOT of sense to me!

I guess the answer to this whole thing is there IS no easy answer. People are going to lie, cheat and commit horrid acts to win no matter WHAT anyone does.

I un-clog my nose at you, you brightly coloured, mealy-templed, cranberry-smelling, electric donkey-bottom biter!’
TTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHBBBBBBB!!!

Actually, pepermint oil is still an illegal substance. My mare was tested this spring and I asked the vet about this. She looked at me and said “How many pepermints are you feeding this horse?” She said you would have to be feeding them in huge amounts. One or two for a job well done will not show in testable amounts.

I believe that the riders are just as responsible, if not more, than the trainers and vets. I don’t know about everywhere else, but at my barn, medications are not given away for free, and someone that ignorantly pays the bills without asking questions should be just as responsible as the person who is 100% aware of what drugs the horse is on. Whether an FEI dressage horse or a 3 ft. hunter, the vet/trainer should not shoulder the blame alone.

One does wonder though, why a horse which needs reserpine because it is laid up, is at a horse show.

Unashamed member of the Arab clique…just settin’ on the Group W bench.

To whomever stated that BNT’s never drive nice cars… In this area we have several BNT’s that drive Mercedes, Jaguars, BMW’s, and Lexus. Do you want me to list who drives what? And alot of them own their own farms (in this area that means $750k or more for a 10 acre facility).

Where do you think this money comes from? Maybe from the bills that list $350 for meds!

Thanks, Stephanie, for posting the link to that article. I must say, THIS is a rule I could get behind:

The ApHC, LeForce says, also makes use of a three-strike rule. Generally speaking, it works like this: First offense of the drug rule, $1,000 fine; second offense, $2,500 fine; third offense, lifetime suspension.

I wasn’t referring at all to your comments but rather in the general context of excuses for something that shouldn’t have been there in any case. I resent it very much when the guy at the bottom of the pecking order is supposed to take the fall.

The horse who was supposed to get it was just at the show because it was in FL and he couldn’t stay up north in the cold for the winter due to respiratory problems. He doesn’t show, just hangs out.

The person in question felt awful about her mistake and took the fall by her own choice. I would have done the same.

Not me! It was Midge who was up at 4 AM braiding. I am NEVER up at 4 AM… Except on Thursdays, which is Pre-Green hack at 7:30 day. And then I am in sort of a coma, staring down at my horse’s neck, totally oblivious to the rest of the world.

But, I consider MIdge to be a very reliable souce, also. Just setting the record straight.
