Totilas

Paddling is not an issue unless it causes interference or restricts reach. That is actually in USDF’s guidelines, even when analyzing the trot in DSHB competition. I agree - no one ever comments on paddling when it is an Iberian horse?

FYI. This is another Totilas son, maybe less publicity but I think he is doing well… BTW he is the son of Weihegold

Did not know that, but I am from HJ land and racehorse world. In the former it automatically knocks one out of contention in the hack. In and of itself it’s not a big deal with racehorses, except where the paddle (or its opposite, winging) is caused by offset knees.

I like this one’s movement & way of using his body much better.

Do you know what test this was?

ETA: It’s the St.George Special, but I can’t find it.

this was a qualifier for the Nürnberger Burgpokal which is the most prestigious Competition for 7 to 9 year old DressageHorses in Germany.
The test ridden is called Prix St.George Special and was developed specifically for this series by Dr.R.Klimke. This is the link which describes the test… Sorry its only in German.https://www.nuernbergerburgpokal.de/…georg-special/

and this was Total Hope in the finals in 2019 which he won

It’s ok.
I’m not fluent but can read.

It was clearly a St.George, but with a twist, and it wasn’t the 7yrs old. I’ll add that test to my files.

Which test do they do for the final? Inter?

Here is Hope in December. Interesting to see the progression. I prefer his balanced movement over US.

I thought its the same test… the Prix St Georg special…

Some of the responses to this post, omg. Totilas is a legend, period. 20 years old and looks like this. Not only still under saddle but looks great even for this highest level. Plus the work ethic! I see 8 year olds in competition at 1st level who don’t look as sound or happy to work. Toto is not just a legend in sport at the highest level, but as a sire; outproduces himself. Go to the big stallion shows where you can see many from the same sire and you will and see one after another Toto just exceptional. Yes he gets good mares, but that is no guarantee. And now to the third generation he still is going strong. Other quibbles people may have regarding the training, or Gal, that is another topic. My point is that this incredible stallion at 20 years old who has done everything a stallion or any horse needs to do deserves the accolades. I’d take one of his offspring any day of the week.

Oranges, Bravo!

Aha! So Werth’s sponsors thought it was worthwhile to breed to Totilas.

Totilas has always been a polarizing influence - seems people either love him or hate him and are free to make their comments, positive or (often) negative.

I went all the way to Aachen to see him and he was pulled because of lameness. BUT I did see Valegro and Desperados.

let’s say hunter land. rest assured jumpers don’t care unless it prevents the horse from jumping.

We really collectively have to stop saying hunter jumper, since the two bear no real similarity anymore.

Also this thread was everything I hoped it could be.

@Alibi, loved your post :lol:

Same. it was disappointing but the right move, and Charlotte and valegro were amazing.

That said, I would like a crappy totilas just because he and sire both have (had) top temperaments and high rideability, and I don’t need talent

Yes. His record and training are very public.

Thanks for asking. I mean that Gal is super competitive and this horse did GP at a very early age. Few horses that progress that far that fast remain sound. Sure, there are some that do. Many more do not. T has a conformation and way of going that can predispose to issues.

Not really. I don’t love or hate him, but he’s a very competitive person.

And what was it about his confirmation that predisposed him to issues?

Since this comment has become a joke to some, I’ll mention that a Sport Horse vet has criticized some WB lines for producing horses that move “like German Shepherds” and how hard on the back/soundness that movement often is.
