Triple Crown 2020

For me… made me go hummmmm…

Charlatan Off Derby Trail With Ankle Issue

Ankle chips to be removed (didn’t see which ankle).

Honor A.P. looked nice taking the SA Derby win over Authentic. Honor A.P. looks like a big colt for sure.

Not a good day for Baffert.

Swiss Skydiver looked totally amazing!!

Interesting that he felt the need to say “It’s the first time he’s had heat and a little pressure in the ankle…”

Left front ankle

Filling In Ankle Sidelines Charlatan; Will Miss Kentucky Derby

Wonder if the split drug test comes back a positive if we’ll see Charlatan again.

Maxfield is out of the Kentucky Derby with a condylar fracture. :frowning:

@LaurieB beat me to it.

:frowning:

Sounds encouraging that it was non-displaced. Sounded like he might return to racing. If he was my horse, not sure I’d want to but time will tell after surgery and recovery.

I think this year will be interesting to see who ends up in the gate after the long lead up to the KD with many horses, until mid-March, being trained and pointed toward the KD in early May. I am not a trainer  but seems like if I had a promising 2/3YO, my training strategy toward 1 1/4 miles in early May would be very different than 1 1/4 miles in early September…

Wells Bayou (by Lookin at Lucky) is also off the Derby trail. He has bone bruising.

Was just listening to TVG. Kurt Hoover made a guesstimate that of the 20 horses currently on the KD eligibility list (well, the top 20 anyway) only 10 of those would be in the KD gate (his initial guesstimate was 5).

I think less than that given that the KD is no longer the ‘start’ of the TC, but the middle jewel this year plus 2+ more months to go before the KD gate…

Hope Tiz the Law makes it in the KD gate.

Really bummed about Maxfield. :frowning:

That particular RAN line through Mr. P - Machiavellian - Street Cry - Street Sense seems at first glance to be pretty sturdy. Granted I do not know a whole lot about the female family.

I can’t believe the amount of general TV coverage on the Belmont Stakes in the last couple of days. Sort of funny: a reflection of the lack of sports to cover in general, I think, rather than any special new interest in horse racing.

Belmont spokesperson was trying to build up the excitement. No. One turn mile and one-eighth Derby prep. (Although I am interested in seeing Tiz the Law run.)

Who does everyone like today?

I was hoping Max Player could be my wise guy pick but I’m not a very good handicapper! 😂

I cant wait for this race!

Im bummed Maxfield and Charlatan are out. Dont know about Maxfield coming back but Charlatan should depending on actual injury and recovery. Horses aren’t suspended and he’d be welcome in any barn.

Far as the Belmont. Tiz the Law should win and his connections make a great story…but the odds are overpowering so I’ll bet against him as a single and why not. Go with Modernist. Mind you, dont think he’s fast enough and will need to step up but he deserves a shot and a good boxed exacta play with TTL. IMO.

Also think Tap it to Win and Sol Volante might be worth consideration at attractive odds.

OK, so TVG is apparently not showing the Belmont track races. I think NBC is showing soccer, and nbcsp is doing something else. Anyone know where I can find racing today?

FS1 until 2EDT. FS2 from 2-3. Mother ship NBC 3-6.

Horse I most want to see on the undercard is Hidden Scroll. Last time out he came out on his nose at the break but recovered sound and kept up easily. As he should have minus the weight of JV ( IIRC) who remained on the ground in front of the gate with the wind knocked out of him. Hopefully, that’s his bad luck race for the year.

Racing (including the Belmont) starts at 11:45 PDT on NBC… I will be working on fencing all day so have it set to record. Currently America’s Day At The Races is on FS1.

TVG and NYRA (and TwinSpires) are not playing nice at the moment (both sides IMO have some party to not sharing ADW signals).

TVG has been broadcasting Belmont track races on TVG2 and TVG.COM . Even last year when TVG was more into showing all races (including NYRA and TwinSpires), the biggie races like the Belmont Stakes (and KD) were not broadcast live but delayed until after the race was done and IIRC official.

OMG, did not know of the van wreck and fire that took 12 of Clements horses hauling up from Florida…thats terrible.

:no::no::no::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Great stretch run.

I loved Funny Cide and all of his owners. Good to see them again, and so glad that they have such a nice colt. Glad that Barclay Tagg got a chance at another good colt too. A satisfying race all around.

I missed seeing the Belmont stakes today…is there any place on line that I can see a replay?
