I’ve always had arabian horses. Only seen in TBs.is that unique to them?
I worked for a breeder of Arabian horses. Never had that experience with them, or Quarter Horses, but then my experience doesn’t encompass every breed or every horse within the breed.
TBs were the only ones I knew that were into the tongue stuff. They weren’t racehorses either, so it can’t be put down to tongue ties.
I did read somewhere that certain TB bloodlines were prone to tongue wagging or lolling but I can’t remember where.
No experience with gaited horses, so I don’t know if they do it.
Thank you, I thought I was seeing things.
Interesting. Thanks
after watching British racing for a few years, I have to admire it. There are so many differences from American racing. American tracks are almost always in an oval, where as British tracks are not. And if they are somewhat round or even square, they cover enough ground so that twenty horses are not crowding to get into the same spot going around the first turn. And coming out of the chute, It was a cluster in my humble opinion. I think they all finished on 4 legs, which is the hoped for result, but I HATE 20 horses going around an oval. It cannot change, because of the construct of the tracts. From what I understand, in the UK, there is no stabling! It must make getting into the track a mess on racing days. But it would give you room to stretch out the track, so they are not all going for the same timy piece of land. Is there anything that can be done? The best track as an oval in the US is the Belmont because it is so huge. And there are never anything near 20 starters.
Same. I love the UK’s RacingTV’s YT channel. In fact, they had the Derby replay up before any US outlets that I could find.
I liked how Mystik Dan had simple tack. I did not see a tongue tie. Simple snaffle and jock had a neck strap. Very happy for the jockey. If Sierra Leone hadn’t lugged in and got in a bumping match with Forever Young??? But he did so happy for Mystik Dan and his connections.

I have no idea. I never read the book (or watched the movie.)
yeah, he did!
As far as lugging in, a long time ago, I think it was Swain, a British horse in the BC Classic was way ahead, when he started running almost sideways, toward the stands. He ended up coming in second I think.
I had a flashback to 2009 when Mine That Bird broke through on the inside and the track announcer continued calling out other horses. That was a very fun race to watch (via video). So glad all the horses came home safe.
Mystik Dan
Great race, if a bit of bumper cars.
My favorite takeaway quote of the day, said by Edzo’s coworker about a previous Derby winner: “… and then he went over to Japan and became a stallion.”
I loved Sunday Silence. I d not know why he was so unfashionable here. He was pretty good over there.
I wonder how closely Mystik Dan is related to Dapper Dan. …
Which horse? There are several horses named Dapper Dan.
I don’t see anything that would have Mystik Dan up close to any Dapper Dan sire line.
Haven’t delved deeply however.
The one who came in second in the 1965 Derby and Preakness.
They’re something like fifth cousins once-removed through Ribot.
They both go back to Ribot is the closest, I think. Also Nearco.

Don’t know where in the pedigree you are looking but “fifth cousins” doesn’t mean much in TB breeding, so no, not closely related.
