Unusual barn names

My horse’s racing name was Smart Little Habit which I played on words and came up with his barn name - Addix  I was pretty proud of myself for originality on that one!

My boys are Hampton, Albert, and Casey.

Hampton started life as Hamilton, named because Alexander Hamilton is on the $10 bill. The lady I bought him from got him as a yearling for $10. My trainer then told me his name was Hampton, and it stuck. His show name is Perfect Ten, for obvious reasons.

I knew an ex-racehorse named Gator, who knows why, his show name was Claim to Fame. I also knew a T.

The new boy at my school’s name is Brego. There’s also a Prophet, Nightlight, Root, Ladino, Goose (who is chestnut) and Cassini.

We had a little paint mare at my barn by the name of MooCow because she looked like a cow… her show name was Holy Cow!

Let’s see…

…a gelding called Betsy.
…a stallion called Raisin.
…a mare called Tree. Her filly was Twiggy, which is actually pretty cute.
…a gelding called Gherkin (mine)
…a gelding called Greybird.
…a gelding called Grandpa.
…a mare called Wretched B*tch.
…a mare called Hussy (also mine)
…a gelding called Bomber.

I knew an Arab mare named Pissy, and booooooy did it fit her!

I call my mare Heifer for obvious reasons:lol:

There’s a school horse at my barn named Bagels. Always thought that was funny. When I was a kid there was a school horse named Bam-Bam. He was the first horse I ever rode. There was also a small pony named Bacon - and the name fit him perfectly. There was one named Ears, for his very large ears. We also got a sale horse in once named Lips. There’s a horse at my barn named Dude which I also think is kinda funny.

A girl at my old barn used to have two horses with kinda unusual names.

The first was Skibo (showed under Carnigie Hall). Apparently he was named after a castle owned by Andrew Carnigie in Scotland. Factoid: Madonna got married there.

The other was Java (Up Early).

I think it’s kinda neat having names that “go” together that aren’t TOO “matchy-matchy” if that makes sense.

The weirdest one I think I’ve seen/heard is Zucchini. Who calls a horse Zucchini??? Bizarre.

We have the most stunning horse at my barn - he’s some kind of warmblood, about 17.1hh, dark black roan… his name? “Chi Town”.

Granted, I’ve never heard anyone refer to this horse by name in the year and a half I’ve been there - but it’s on his stall. His owner is a gorgeous rider, brilliant older gentleman - but Chi Town? REALLY?

My pony is “Demi”. Not super unusual, but funny because my accent makes it sound like I’m saying “dummy”, backed up by the fact that I scream “DEM!” at her when she’s misbehaving (dem = dim).

I knew one that started out as “Charlie” but the owners had a very thick east coast/NY accent, so it evolved into “Cholly.”

A mare named Blocker. Short for Lineblocker. It fit her. . .it really did. She was a chunk. Developed a taste for fried chicken and pizza.

Icky. Big bay draft cross, named for former Cincinnati Bengals player Icky Woods.

Rain Man. . .and it suits him. Sometimes he’s just not all “there.” Other times, he’s shockingly brilliant. . .

My own horse is Badger. . .used to be Boomer. I started calling him “Boomer Badger,” after a character in the stories in the old children’s magazine Ranger Rick, and eventually he just ended up as Badger.

My friend has a horse named Amen, I think she did say a lot of prayers when she first got him, but all is well now!

Best horse I ever had was named Bacon. His show name was Canadian Country which became Canadian Bacon so Bacon. Barn has had a Mama Mare, Colt, Ugh, Slob, and Grey Baby.

We have some weird ones here.

Chingy short for Chingolo Z. I usually call him Ching.

Noah is my horses…more common, but not too common.

Huey never meet another one.

Trinity first one I have known.

Dexter. I call him Dex a lot.

My mare name is Nala, not too weird.

Baxter, Sangria, Gladys( a boy), and we call a little pony Scruffy, but her real name is misty.

Well, I have a Preston (Just Press Start) and a Timi (Always the Optimist).

We also have a Nero (rhymes with Zero… his show name is Coroniro - Coromino x Ninety Deniro) and a Tibo (pronounced tee-beau … his show name is Tiberon). And said mare, Ninety Deniro is called “Day”.

@Beethoven … we had a Huey in our barn! His show name was Who Needs Diamonds

Unusual barn names?

We had a horse called Hobo.
Had one called Boots.
Then there are the young ones Easy, Curly and Dillon.

We have one called Woody, which is not such a strange name, except it is odd that it fits his woody, unchanging expression so well.
He is an odd and extremely smart horse.

There were a few polo ponies I used to know with unique barn names.

Doggy–mare, complete bitch
Nogz–was supposed to be Nuez, my boss at the time had hideous handwriting
Deez–Originally Moria, there was another Moria at the time and “Deuce” became Deez and she was played under the name Diesel. She had a big engine so it fit.

I told one of my brothers if I ever got to name a racehorse I’d name it after his all-time favorite basketball player. “Thunder Dan,” barn name Marley (easier to pronounce) in honor of Dan Majerle.

I’m originally from Iowa, and my dad raised pigs when I was a kid, so I have a soft spot for piggies. When I got my gelding last April, I decided on a very unusual show name for him that is pig related. (Then I changed it to something else, but on the advice of some friends, I’m sticking with my original pick.) I therefore decided that his barn name would be “Ham.” It fits him perfectly, because he’s SUCH a character with a huge personality and is happy as a pig in mud 99% of the time.

I knew a horse named Whatever. When he came in barn owner said to call him whatever, so they did.

I bought a gray pony from a riding program who came with the name “Silver Cloud” Oh just YUCK. He was staying in the riding program so I couldn’t change his barn name dramatically, so I allowed them to call him Silver, but between us I called him Goose. (Shown under Touch of Gray)

A year later I bought a palomino pony who came with the name “Ponyboy” How accurate. Since I already had Silver, well… of course he became Gold (show name Golden Opportunity)

Then I got a black pony mare. Sue me, I called her Ebony

The only horse I owned in Virginia came with the name Panama. Hated it but he knew it so I kept it.
