Epona, I didnât send a lot but Iâll keep sending a dribble your way as I get it.
Can someone send the paypal info to me please?
So Froggy got himself ârescuedâ on the Transworld coattails? How cute!
I wish we knew who took Froggy, because I would LOVE updates! What an adorable horse bound for great things.
I think I have sent PMs to all that asked for Eponaâs paypal info. If Iâve missed anyone, please let me know.
And kick in the jingles for Fellow tomorrow, if you could. Vet is out in the afternoon (rescheduled from Tuesday due to weather.) Here is a little video I have of him. So sweet.
What plans do you have for the Fellow guy? I know some can depend upon the vetting.
Simkie, he is looking at you like, where did you come from? I am getting treats and I am in a stall and all these people admire me. What a nice guy. Thinking of you and Fellow, hoping for a good outcome.

What a cutie! I love him already! Jingles will be jingling.
What a cute guy, with such a kind eye. Many good thoughts for Fellow.

Wish I were in different circumstances ⊠wouldnât mind having one just like this one!
Jingles worked, my friends
Some background, now that weâre in a bit of a better place and the brand inspection is in the mail:
I bought this horse to euthanize him. That may come as no surprise to anyone who has frequented the kind of auction that CLA isâbeing turned away is a grim deal. I thought he deserved a kind end. He has an old injury to his RF leg thatâs caused a ton of bony change in the pastern/hoof area, but the more acute problem is that a large portion of the hoof wall has torn away from the foot itself. When he went to CLA, it was flapping and bleeding and just very, very ugly.
I had my vet evaluate him on the lot, and he said that the horse was not terribly uncomfortable, and it would not be unreasonable to ship him to my barn (where I used to board) and wait a few days until the brand inspection was sorted before putting him down. So we did that. (He also said that if I did want to go to extraordinary measures, I could send him to CSU, have them resect the hoof, and keep him wrapped for months. Tough to sign up for that.)
The brand inspection took longer than expected and by all accounts the horse was a DOLL. Not at all the fearsome range stallion I expected based on previous info. People in the barn fell in love with him, and sent me videos like what I shared above. I also got some video of him walking around, and was quite surprised with just how sound he DID seem to be, based on what his foot looked like. Given that we had some time waiting for the brand paperworkâIâm not really willing to act until I have that in handâI asked my fancy vet out to evaluate him.
Radiographs are not terribly surprising. He is fused at the coffin joint and has a ton of bony change. But because he is fused, he is not painful. She feels the flappy part of his hoof wall can be cleaned up by her farrier and that resection isnât necessary. Sheâd like to do it in her clinic, sedated, perhaps with a hoof block. And that is happening tomorrow. (And the cost isnât crazy, whichâyayâbecause Fellow is getting to be a very expensive mercy purchase )
Weâre not totally out of the woodsâthey could get in there and find that he does need to be resected, or that something more grim is happening. But sheâs optimistic about it now. We spoke at length about if this plan was fair to the horse, and she thought it was. I asked what might have caused all the bony change, and she thought that it was a hoof wall avulsion that cause a collateral ligament injury to the coffin joint. That destabilized the joint and this is the result.
She also said Fellow is very kind and sweet and willing.
So that is the latest. I am very much taking this one step at a time and trying to not get ahead of myself here, just in case the news is bad. But itâs nice to have some hope. If everything goes as expected tomorrow, Iâll look to bring him here.
So many people have helped this little herd, and itâs just an amazing thing. There is so much kindness out there. It makes me all verklempt thinking about the people here who have donated, and Epona, and the MANY people who have helped Fellow find a safe spot. THANK YOU all.
will continue to jingles for Fellow⊠he deserves it!! Good luck to both of you!
Good Luck on all levels, Simkie and Good Karma to all these lovely horses. I will be thinking of you and Fellow tomorrow and I second your thank you to all of the wonderful people who have sent donations and moral support. Merry Christmas everyone. Epona

And I think Froggy also influenced the rescue volunteers to cooperate any way they could with me. They loved him. What was really sad was a paint that tried to hide in the Transworld group when they were sorting out the the kill load. i think he might have made it if he had been chestnut. I was in tears. When I went back for the second load it was after dark and everyone else was gone. Just my three lonely and scared little yearlings were left and they whinnied when I parked the trailer at the chute and got out. And trust me, somehow they all knew who was being saved and who wasnât. They barely hesitated when it was time to get in the trailer. They are all smart and very good minded. Merry Christmas.
I wish the paint and all the others could have been saved. People who sell or give away their horses should see what happens to them later. And I agree, animals are smart and know what is going on. Iâve seen dogs and cats and horses all my life who knew they were doomed. And those who tried to be friendly in order to be adopted or saved vs. those who just gave up and turned away.
You did a great job saving those that you could save. And now have the overwhelming task of meds and vets and farriers and training. Plus the newborns that will appear soon.
I sent my dribble for my Christmas gift to CoTHers who care about the animals.
I was missed in the PMs

Please PM me so I can contribute.
Some of the horses have coughs and other issues, so they have had to have antibiotics from the vet. So everyone who can send a dribble, no matter how small, please send it asap.
$800.00 for shots. Alone. Plus the purchase price. Plus farrier, dentist, etc.
