Agree, actually - it should have ended with one of those cool hip-hop marching band ensembles we have!

Love Michelle’s horses ~ over the top cool ~ each and every performance ~

I don’t see anything on my yahoo tv page about the games being on the tv, does anyone know where I can find out if its actually on?

On the schedule link on the main www.usefnetwork.com page it lists which things are on NBC, USEF or elsewhere.

UH-OH: ONSITE REPORTER JUST TWEETED A RIDER WAS INJURED, POSSIBLY FATALLY. Medical team on arena floor.

Jingles. I’ll post more info if I get it.

Well, I’m impressed. That was a seriously first rate effort. My ten year old daughter was enthralled the whole time, even through the buffering, even when everyone was excessively pixellated. Opera with horses was right up her alley. She thought it was “so fancy!” and I have to say even just this little bit has really opened her eyes to what people can do with horses.

I loved the dancers with the Andalusian.

Did anyone else notice all the empty seats? Looked about 1/4-1/2 full at best.

AliCat, nice try with the Aachen comment. But we’ve moved past the dark ages and now have this really common, easy to use thing called web broadcasting. I’d take your comment seriously if it were tech problems people were having trouble with. But it’s editing and production choice. Let’s pretend we’re back in Aachen and you’ve signed up for the Aachen VHS tapes. And when they arrive, it shows 15 seconds of crowd shots for every 5 seconds of action and they cut away from a showjumper just as they’re heading over the final fence, cut back just as the next competitor is heading over the fourth fence, show only the free walk of the dressage tests, cutting away every time a horse heads into tempis or the p’s.

It’s hard to imagine what they thought they would accomplish by focusing on the orchestra/musicians. Some random opera fan, surfing the internet, find USEFLive, trys out the opening ceremonies, thinks “Hey this opera is great, perhaps I’ll watch it. No more real opera for me. From now on, I’ll get my opera fix from equestrian events. Perhaps this site will have more opera later. I’ll have to add it my favorites.”

Oh no! I was just thinking that there were a lot of horses in that arena, and a lot of loud music and lights. I hope the rider is okay…

I thought I saw something in the arena, like a bundle with somebody crouching by it.

poltroon, my ten year old loved it as well. I was wishing for more horses but since I love opera, I enjoyed it as well.

Hoping no rider died out there. Scary thought.

Loved most of it, particularly the dancers and the Andulusian, Stacey, the Cowboy Dressage guy and the trick horses. But wondered why they didn’t tap into the rich legacy of American folk (and popular) music about horses… Tennessee Stud, Camptown Races, etc., etc., etc.

Wasn’t crazy about the opera singers. Soprano wasn’t bad but really didn’t like the mezzo. Still good that they had opera, I guess.

How awful that someone may have gotten hurt. The horses were extremely well behaved considering all the chaos and noise… Jingles to the rider.

I actually didn’t mind hearing the opera at all. I just would have preferred to see more of what the opera was accompanying. You know, the horse bits. Perhaps a split screen for next time if they feel they need to show the musical performers.

Really hope no one was hurt.

Well, Saddlebred represent!

I was going to go to a bonfire at my brothers’ but then thought I’d give watching on my new phone a try and I’m glad I did. I’m so starved for equestrian stuff, I’ll take it in dribs and drabs between singers and musicians.

This is exactly what concerns me - that they WEREN’T thinking about what they were doing, they just have some kind of prescripted formula for ‘events’ that they hash out over and over again. Think of advertising dollars lost on horsie type viewers for those of us who couldn’t take it anymore. (If there had been advertisers there.) Hopefully they will take our feedback and consider it ‘one to grow on.’

But of course - I am SO GLAD I got to see 30 minutes of horses in 3 hours of coverage!

Hope the Europeans don’t think we’re dumber than we are for that.

Nothing further on the rider - there probably will not be. I’m sure local reporters are being restricted.

Meanwhile, looky here: Carr-Hughes Productions (of dreadful camera work/editing fame) has a Facebook page too!

Have at it, people.

You didn’t pay for this feed like you did your VHS tapes. As noted, this type of broadcast is becoming more and more common. I am certain that this production crew does not focus on horse show coverage as a mainstay, so there will be growing pains. Or maybe they were trying to include some shots for the NON-horse crowd that could possibly tune in.

As I have stated several times now, instead of bitching about how terrible the coverage is, I will be thankful to get a FREE glimpse inside WEF’s opening ceremony.

Loved every minute!

The opening ceremony is “ceremonious”, which means that there is something that lends grandeur and pomposity to a momentous event. I thought the opening ceremonies were well done. And there were some amazing displays by horses! Bareback chick at the end…probably should know her name, but don’t…wow! That’s what I call horsemanship!

I even loved the musical components. All of them. So I guess I’m lame, but I’m sticking to it! But, then again, I was listening to Big Band music as a kid in the 60’s/70’s and continue to have an eclectic taste in music. That said, I appreciated the music choices at the opening ceremonies.

Well, NCRider, that bit about Aachen was a little unrealistic. It wouldn’t be only the dressage free walk…it would be a close up of the rider’s top hat bobbing along during the free walk.

I wanted to like the Opening Ceremonies. I think if I could have afforded to be there, it wouldv’e been great. But the web coverage was a little disappointing. I want to hear the orchestra and see the horses. But they did show a good bit of the Friesian quadrille, which was great fun to watch. (The riders must have taken up a collection and bought donuts for the camera crew. ;))

Hopefully you guys who feel compelled to voice your opinions do so on the FB page or via email, and communicate it a little differently than our silly ramblings among the COTH crew
