WEG Pratoni 2022

Has anyone else noticed the music is linked to each rider? Some notables are The Yellow Rose of Texas for Will Coleman, and Abba for the Swedish rider? I think they played the Hungarian Rhapsody(?) for the rider from Hungary?

Is it like the GP or GPS for dressage where riders apparently select their background music?

I know nothing about it. I just noticed a correlation. One of the riders was using Kashmir by Led Zep. (Not their recording.)

I am LOVING the Italian horse, Duke of Champions ridden by Gio Ugolotti. Legs and stride for days!

Thank god they got rid of the dressage coefficient before we regularly started having a rider or two score in the teens!

The scoring seems to be exceeding generous for dressage. However since all the scores are tightly bunched it is going to come down to jumping. Hopefully the courses are not as soft as the dressage scoring.

I think Boyd’s test was very good but sort of like Will’s. Not flashy just workmanlike.

The judge at B seems to be scoring quite a bit lower than the other two.

Even if it is, it hardly matters. Ts the relative position of each rider that counts.

Peter Gray did an interview with Major League Eventing in which he said he really tries to start with a 10 for every movement and then goes down if needed. He did also state that quality of gaits is important as often that is where the score starts, then either add or subtract depending on how the movement is executed.

I don’t like the latter idea if it’s based more on breeding/gorgeous gaits rather than the training and execution. But it’s reassuring that a full TB, Artist, is right up there with the leaders.

He scored 2 10s and a 9 for harmony. Is anyone surprised? LOL

it is nice to have 4 scores in the 20s. We look competitive. Best of luck for tomorrow!

I think it’s interesting that aside from Michi’s score of 18.8, the German team’s dressage wasn’t great - or at least as consistent as team GB or USA. They only had one other score in the 20s, then the others were in the 30s. Not that those scores are anything to sneeze at, they just seem high for Germany.

Tomorrow’s course obviously makes this anything but a dressage competition though. It’ll be interesting to see how the leaderboard shakes up.

If it wasn’t for Michi being brilliant, we would be solidly in 2nd.

@Sharon’s comment in the Canadian thread re Sam Watson’s prediction that xc time would not be a major factor led me to look up the results from the Pratoni test event in May -

Obviously a different course, but a half dozen or so made the time. Interesting too that a number of the horse/rider pairs currently competing in the Worlds participated.

It’s nice to see that it is really going to be a jumping competition. If only there was an endurance phase because that it would be a proper 3-day championship.

I loved Duke of Champions too! He’s got a full Thoroughbred sire, Duke of Hearts, who is the same sire as Cornelia Dorr’s freshly-minted Burghley horse, Daytona Beach 8.

Really? I’ve been watching the tests and score sheets and think they are on par for any dressage?
