Well, that didnt take long

I just had to Google “Decarpentry lunging of horse” and got this:

https://scienceofmotion.com/documents/lunging_with_decarpentry.html

Which now leaves me feeling like a true Bathrobe Bumpkin because I don’t have a clue who Jean Luc Cornville (did I get that right?) is or why he’s the go-to lunging maestro.

Years ago, someone asked me if I could work with her Friesians. Her husband brought one in and started to harness him, and she literally leaped into the tack room to hide. Husband and I went for a drive, with me as the gator, and it was just a blast! So much power and so much fun.

When we were done, the lady gave me a pamphlet called Riding In Lightness, which was a bunch of hooey bashing dressage and extolling the virtues of riding baby horses in walk with a full bride. She wanted a book report on Riding In Lightness before I could ride her horses.

I wanted to say, No, I’d rather poke out my eyes with a fork, or, at least, I’d just rather take combined driving lessons from her husband, but I just never went back.

It’s Cornille, but Cornville seems so much more appropriate. I like to imagine him with a corn dog in hand, pinky extended, as the proper Frenchman he is.

Of course that’s what it was about. I’m almost surprised it didn’t include a chapter on the corrupt, politicized scoring in competitive dressage.

Riding babies in a full bridle, eh? I almost want to know her reasoning behind this. Almost.

Hey, at least she didn’t self-publish an entire “book” through Amazon and then try to wrangle a glowing review out of you!

I think that it probably did include a screed against “competitive dressage” but I stopped reading it pretty early on.

JLC is NOT the Longing Maestro…

Apparently she’s been kicked out of JLC’s program.

Good grief.
Though it is impressive wrt the extensive list of excuses she is able to cram in there.
Sounds like a college student trying to “explain” a plagiarized paper.

From that article, my comments in bold.

"The purpose here is not to promote lunging but rather present a technique minimizing the damages caused by long lunging sessions [here’s an idea - stop lunging the horse for so long?], (see “The Side Effects of Lunging). The stresses induced on the limbs joints and vertebral column structures are related to the inclination of the horse’s body at the end of the lunge line. The average angle is 67º and the body inclination increases in relation to the speed [if your horse (nice cartoon by the way) leans this badly when lunging, I have some other questions for you]. The two elements that are minimizing the side effects of lunging are for one, adding as many straight lines as possible and for two, maintaining the horse at his natural cadence. Cues and voice commands are useful as long as they are reduced to the minimum. [… how else am I supposed to communicate. Use the force?]

ok except here in Canada people who lost work in the pandemic, or couldn’t work were given $2,000 a month. Child tax was also increased. So her and her partner were easily bringing in $4,000 + whatever child tax benefit they get monthly. BS story

Dramatic much? Says she was ‘imprisoned’ in the hospital after giving birth.

“After all, knowledge should not be something that is for sale, but free to the public for the greater good.”

But wait a second. Doesn’t she charge for lessons, clinics, YT videos and “rehabilitation” of horses? Based on her philosophy, shouldn’t she be dispensing it all for free?

Ya’ know, it’s tough to make a go of it in the horse world. Why do so many people feel compelled to be some kind of maestro or Bringer of Lightness? Why not just be a pleasant, honest community riding instructor or trainer who helps novices enjoy their horses?

I’m still chortling over “indigenous.”

Lady, you’re as WASPy as they get. Stop it.

I’m 1/8th Cherokee, and I would NEVER use “I’m indigenous!” as a way to be perceived as more of a victim. Please, let’s leave the term for people who have actually received discrimination due to it.

Funny how Jean Luc Corndog’s self done “study” is one of the first google results for “affects of lunging on horses.” He didn’t use any controls or follow the typical applications of a scientific study but calls the opinions derived from his observations as fact. He then makes far reaching connections about how certain medical issues are certain to arrive such as cartilage damage, spavins, oesteophytes and arthritis, all based on referencing one study done in, wait for it, 1969. He also believes the horse’s joints look like this when lunging (I guess they are lunging at terminal velocity):

That video is making the tik tok rounds too. I came across it the other day. (Video from the FB link, not the insufferable youtube walkathon)

Wow, how bad do you have to be for that to happen? Too bad she’s still preaching the same nonsense he does.
