We were cheering for Ziggy the Puli but then he started throwing up at the end. Did anyone else notice?

That’s what it looked like to me too, spitting up something…
As for the Pedigree drop, from the articles I’ve read, it sounded like WKC told Pedigree their audiences felt the ads were a bit depressing. It sounded like WKC engaged in a dialogue with Pedigree to try to make the ads a bit more warm and fuzzy, but Pedigree wanted to stick with their current ads. I think they did also feel Pedigree as a sponsor had gone almost completely towards advertising rescuing shelter animals. I can see why WKC perhaps felt that was a little odd in their biggest sponsor. I think they just wanted to find a bit more middle ground.
I personally didn’t see it as a “rescuing mutts has nothing to do with our mission, so we don’t care” statement.
I would have liked to see a few more ad slots related to rescue/shelters, but I don’t think it was completely unfair of WKC to go with another sponsor to keep people from changing channels (something they felt was indeed happening from the Pedigree ads.)
I don’t really feel like I have enough info to feel too strongly about the matter, so after doing a bit of research, I felt I could continue to enjoy watching one of my favorite dog events = ) I can see why people have ended up on both sides of the issue though.
I was disappointed with the GSD group win as well. I just think we aren’t going to see anything change until the club alters the standard some. Right now, I think that GSD that won probably did match up to the existing standard quite well, so what are you gonna do?
I’d have a hard time ever being a group judge (not like that’s likely to happen, haha) because I would pretty much never place one of those breeds I feel we’ve bred into unsoundness.
The Subaru commercial with the dogs at the beach cracked me up.
Poo, the Pem didn’t win the group. Okay…it didn’t deserve to, either.
My mother sent dogs to Westminster every year for a long time. It’s like the World Cup for dogs. I never miss it.
to your first paragraph… the westminster is the only AKC event which i am aware of which makes policy based on polling data.
FERDINAND WINNER KENTUCKY DERBY 1986 dead IN A SLAUGHTERHOUSE.
Maybe it’s because they only have TV coverage for what, 2 events a year - isn’t Westminster the only one that has LIVE TV coverage? I don’t think the Eukanuba cup is live, is it? So they are making decisions about advertising just like every other televised sporting event you can watch. They want to know what their viewers like so they don’t turn the channel.
You don’t have to convince me that the racing industry has problems. But I don’t go on the Racing Forum before the Kentucky Derby and tell them they are all elitist snobs because they aren’t going to run commercials telling people to adopt a thoroughbred during their television coverage.
Haha! Horse people! Telling dog people they are elitist! My entire dog showing career (including my 2 dogs) has cost less than my kids “4H horse”. Not including tack, training, shows, etc.
Back to the show…can’t wait for tonight!!! My breed goes in the ring at 2pm and I am hoping not to be still driving home from somewhere so I can watch it live.
Our dog club is a PERFORMANCE dog club.
We give classes to the public, puppy, household manners, clicker, trick, therapy and CGC and obedience and agility.
We also rent the building when not in use for a small local conformation club.
Some of our members belong to both, a few are breeders and those show in performance and conformation.
Still, just as with horses and halter classes, conformation is seen as a bit of their own world, some of what they present to show in conformation not what you would want in your performance dogs.
Still, those conformation breeders are what keeps the breeds as they are, or we would revert to mixes, or maybe breeds that were not standard, as each performance only breeder would go for what it likes and the lines between breeds would blurr.
Genetically, that is not so bad, breeding too close to a standard demands that the gene pool be narrow and that has it’s own problems.
Still, if some like to breed and show certain types of halter horses, or conformation dogs, why not?
If we like dogs, we may wonder why anyone would breed dwarf dogs, or too large or small or short faced or whatever, but we can still enjoy seeing once a year what others do with their dogs, even if we would not.
If someone doesn’t like it, turn the TV off.
You’re close, Quinn, the repeated use of “LOL” is the clue, it’s just Breezymeadow reincarnated and annoyed that anyone holds an opinion other than hers.

Actually, vtdobes, the correct term is “couldn’t” care less.

Thank you so much for the grammar lesson.
man my husband and I were so disapointed in the German Shepard, we were hoping to see the Australian Heeler but missed him/her and we always root for the Heeler but they are to new to win group yet
I was also pulling for the Pug, love Pugs
Agree with the comments about the GSD, it looked crippled to me. :sigh:
When it was turning around, it seemed to get its legs all tangled up, my thoughts were A) WHAT have they done to the breed, that dog can barely get out of its own way?!?, and B) if that were a horse, it would be neurologic. SO sad…

The GSD breed winner has been handled by Jimmy Moses (I believe that is his name) every year I have watched it. I almost believe HE got the win instead of the dog.
Anyway, GO GORDONS!!!
tonight I am rooting for the Dobe and the GSP
The live stream is kind of fun - they are showing the win picture efforts of the malamute and you can just hear screaming and screaming in the next ring! Wish I was there… I had the chance but was overbooked all afternoon… sigh… Next year!!

Unfortunately, they’ll keep rewarding that type until their breed club changes the standard, which will happen when pigs fly. I hate that “big lick” rear end too.
I wasn’t thrilled with the Shiba that went to group, but he’s alright I guess.
I didn’t get to watch much more than the hound group. I loved the Whippet.

Yes, and what an unfortunate thing
I was out last night so missed the Hound Group, Tivod the first hour so I could watch it today. Since we have Whippets, I eagerly look forward to seeing this year’s representative (and of course am biased, so always believe the Whippet should win the Hound Group. Failing that, one of the other Sighthounds…)
WTF was the Herding Group judge THINKING!!! I agree that the German Shepherd was atrocious - he could barely get around the corners without his whole back end shaking and wobbling madly. I am not so sure that the breed standard is at fault as much as fashion - I don’t recall the whole standard but it used to say strong loins and sturdy hind legs and that dog had nothing of the sort. I noticed a trend towards slightly more angulation in the hind end in the late 70s and in ten years the downward slide to the current mess was well on its way to that thing that won the group last night. My pick for that group was the smooth collie. Missed most of the hound group, maybe will catch the sporting dogs tonight
Wire dachshunds rule!!! I was thrilled when the wire won group. The dog was absolutely gorgeous. To make the win even better, Cheri Koppenhaver, his handler, finished a bitch for me years ago when she was just starting out. She is a great person and takes good care of the dogs in her care. Rita June, my bitch, just loved her.
As far as the ads go, Purina is a more logical choice of sponsors for WKC, as more handlers feed Pro Plan than Pedigree. I liked the Purina ads, especially the “What Makes a Dog a Champion - It Depends on Who’s Judging”. The Purina ads did showcase dogs doing a variety of activities. The Subaru ads were a hoot. I loved the dogs backing up the trailer.
I have to say I like the Pedigree ads also but Purina is a better choice, IMHO.
Anywho, y’all know who I’ll be pulling for in the BiS judging tonight.
