I will be rooting for the Dalmatian. I know his breeder and owner. He is good PR for the breed with his happy, showy attitude.
I used to show against Houston Clark way back in the dark ages, although we always seemed to meet him in the hound ring. It was fun to see him judging the Herding group at Westminster - I missed a good bit of it, but saw enough to know that I was NOT impressed with that GSD he put up.
In fact, I wasn’t overly excited about any of the dogs I saw last night, but I got spoiled by the Scottish Deerhound bitch that won BIS last year. I don’t think anything can equal her in class - not only was she a gorgeous specimen physically, she was the living embodiment of the word “regal” – a true queen through and through.

I would say, that GSD this year, horrible as his hindend was wobbling around, was an improvement over the ones being shown the past few years, that would run around so low as to be dusting the floor with their behinds.:dead:
Maybe that is a great GSD today.
I think that if the dachshunds legs get any shorter, they will have to change groups to the slithering one.
DownYonder, totally agree that Hickory has us spoiled! Such quality, and such wonderful character!
She did so much, I think, for show dogs…she is clearly such an athlete, and lives such an idyllic life for any dog! The footage of her at home, running with the other hounds, horses, and playing with her wonderful puppies at her home in Virginia, and lounging on her dog bed, and the wonderful relationship she so clearly has with her handler and owners, just could not be a better representation of what we are striving for in purebred dogs, and what they give to us.
Did you mean the Herding group?
What channel will tonight’s show be on?

Yeah…that is a nice Dalmatian. Out of the four groups last night he’s the group winner I like the most. Of course if the Dobe wins the working group tonight then she’s the one I’ll have to root for
Tonight the show is being broadcast entirely on USA, no channel change midway through!, starting at 8 eastern.
thanks! I’ll tell my mom and hope she gets that channel
Wasnt feeling too much excitment last night. Some lovely dogs (and some not…) but not an exciting BIS lineup for me so far. I, too, like the Dal so far. The Doxie showed well and I am always impressed when one of those freight trains can hold a topline! Judges seem to like to put Pekes up. I wonder if the uniformity and standard is such that is is easier to have a dog that meets them in that breed? I can’t bring myself to like them tho… Similarly, I can’t like the GSD even if it met the official standard. Its okay - nobody is asking me to judge a dog show!
The dog that surprised me most was the new breed that I will just abbreviate to Xolo. That dog looked gorgeous. It looked for a while like it might get a Group placing the first year in the show. It would have been really fun to have that in the BIS ring!

Oh, & just like they re-broadcast last night today, tonight’s broadcast will be repeated tomorrow on USA - in the morning sometime I believe.

I really liked that dog too, which surprised me. I mean, how quickly can one automatically warm up to a hairless dog? But it was solid, had nice conformation (for any dog), looked friendly), etc., etc. I wasn’t surprised when it made the final cut. In fact, I would have moved it up in the final grade.

I too thought the one doxie was a gorgeous dog and had that group won, but was not quite paying attention, so missed part of it right about then.
I have a friend that raises those, backyard breeder, that has any puppy that she can raise already spoken for, they are so sought after around here.
I wonder if she was seeing what a really top one looks when fit and showing.
Maybe today I can watch a bit closer.
Me too! That was a neat lookin dog! I went and looked them up when it was in the ring. They come furry, too, and in toy and miniature!
I haven’t paid much attention to the dog show world for about 10 years, and I was FLOORED at how many new breeds I saw. Whoa!
The bichon had an awesome looking coat, makes you want to touch it to see if it is real.

Yep. Sorry - was typing fast while at work.
I will edit my post.
Just watching some of the feeds now…I missed the Brittanys, if they showed it on the feed. Lots of good dogs in that ring today so I can’t complain about the winner, I’ve never seen him in person but I think he is nice. Looking forward to seeing him at 8:00 sharp - first dog in the ring tonight!
I laughed when I watched the Weims who also have the same judge as the Brittanys. I recognized her immediately as a judge I showed under this summer. She gave my dog Reserve Winners from the 12-18 month class and said to me “Your dog stacks himself better when you don’t help him. You can work on that.”
(I did take her advice.)
S1969, is Andrea Jordan still in Brittanys? She might have a different last name now–she was married to Dennis Jordan and they had Jordean. I worked for Dennis as a teenager…Ollie and I were buddies, way back when. Always loved seeing Dennis in his tux on TV at the Garden!
I really liked the PBGV that came in 2nd in the hound group. I don’t know a thing about them so I have no idea if he was an outstanding individual or not, but he sure was cute.
yup I still don’t get GSD’s and why they breed for loose wobbly hocks, did anyone else notice it’s hind legs as he turned a corner? Hocks wobbling side to side I think that dog propelled itself around the corner on sheer willpower and attitude alone. I just don’t see why GSD breeders say that is a sound dog.
I too really loved the Xolo. Good looking dog and nice attitude!
