What's the deal with "unapproved" posts?

Since users can delete their own posts on threads, I believe you should see a box you can check by all of your own posts (except those that start a thread), so you could check posts you wanted to delete. Does that appear to be the case?

I do see a checkbox next to the post number of my posts but, as with the ‘unapproved’, no clue what this checkbox does if I do check it.

In a moment of brief noodling, there is the checkbox top right and just to its left is either the post # or ‘Unapproved’…

I wasn’t sure how unapproved posts appear to those who posted them…some people have said that they just disappear, and then magically reappear after we approve them. Things look a little different for me than a regular user, so I’m not entirely sure how unapproved posts look when you’re the “victim” of the spam filter!

I did go back and find the post (#167) that was originally Unapproved and it is there now.

When I first tried to post it, I saw the message Unapproved and poof, the post was gone/not visible. I don’t know what magic happens on your side to make it magically appear on our side

I don’t receive an email notification, but I see that there are posts in the queue when I go to my notification center. If it’s been a while and you have something timely that hasn’t appeared, feel free to send me a PM prod, but it’ll be waiting for me when I check in there regardless.

Some words, like some links, trigger this website’s filters and they put your post on hold until the Moderator gets around to looking at them and “liberating” them.

To be unapproved without a link is rare.
Guess your post was one of the rare ones.

Not much we can do about that but hope it stays a rare event.

Bluey is wrong. I’ve had every single post unnaproved for 2 days. Doesn’t matter what I wrote. I had the same thing happen awhile back and I was able to message a mod on my phone, but now it’s on both phone and computer.

Actually, every post I attempted that day was unnapproved, including the one on this thread, and then they showed up a couple of days later assuming a moderator approved them. No interesting key words, no links. Nothing would post

Bluey is wrong. I’ve had every single post unnaproved for 2 days. Doesn’t matter what I wrote. I had the same thing happen awhile back and I was able to message a mod on my phone, but now it’s on both phone and computer.

Maybe there is a different bug in the system now, one that sends posts to the unapproved list for who knows what reason?

Let the Moderator know if you can get thru so the web site fixers will look into this.

One poster, it may be on their end.

I’m under the observational impression that sometimes, if a post triggers the spam filter for whatever mysterious reason, the system can maybe tag that poster as a potential problem and sequester subsequent posts until it gets the OK via a moderator approving them, that that poster isn’t an evildoer.

Might explain why sometimes there can be blocks of unapproved posts for a user.

I also think the filter might get a little touchier in general if we have more actual spam being caught by it during a certain time period, like it’s on high alert and has more of a hair trigger.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I know these guesses don’t make it any less annoying to have your posts randomly be put in jail!

Even though the little icon beside the title of my post tells me I have posted X amount of times in that thread, only two posts from yesterday actually show up. A new thread I tried to start just got zapped into nothingness. (BTW, no links in any of my posts, just tried to quote another poster in a couple of them.)

Maybe that’s what has happened to my posts. I haven’t been able to post for two day without getting an unapproved. My PM to @Moderator 1 got completely zapped and disappeared. I’ve tried from two laptops, multiple browsers and my phone. This time I’m trying with yet another browser. I don’t feel very hopeful…

Oh, good! I just cleared out the posts needing moderation. We’d gotten a ton of actual spam, so I think your account must have gotten tagged as a potential baddy.

I just went to my thread in Off Topic to see if the post with the photos was there and YAY, it was.

Then I decided to delete the posts about unapproved and sending notes to @Moderator 1 so the thread would not be cluttered.

Looks like the photos have all disappeared now, even though that was not the post I deleted.
