William Fox Pitt Clinic
Here’s the deal. If you have a legitimate concern or question regarding the clinic, use your brain and take it up with somebody who can give you an answer. This would be either a) the clinic organizer who has her email listed openly in the previously referenced EN article or b) Me, who wrote the EN article.
ksamuels, please understand that the clinic organizer started this thread in order to drum up applications for her clinic.

Because my questions were very broad, and because I thought – correctly – that there were others out there who also didn’t understand the stated groups for the categories but were still interested in applying, I asked those questions on this BB, figuring the OP/organizer would be checking back in.

That you would describe this as ‘not using my brain’ and ‘rabble-rousing’ is, like the rest of your post, quite condescending.

It’s kind of backhanded to say “geee since you fell off your horse wouldn’t you be more careful before you enter an unknown clinic?” low blow.

If you are interested in entering the clinic why not do as they ask, then in your description say “please place me where you feel appropriate.”

This clinic seems to be a one time opportunity to see WFP’s teaching style and his ideas and I would use it as more of an educational experience for the auditors and less as an earth shattering revelation that changed my riding forever for the riders.

Every time you enter a clinic you take the risk of meeting a clinician who is unsuitable for you or your horse and your clinician takes the chance of trying to teach someone who would be better off riding a broom over a matchstick.

Why not? Because I don’t know these people on this committee. Because they don’t know my horse or rider. And because I have a strong sense of responsibility to my horses.

This is not a situation I’d be comfortable with, which is exactly what I said in my previous posts.

I fell off my broom once. Now I only use a vacuum.

KSamuels: your post had the unfortunate quality of the pot calling the kettle black.

This forum is actually for asking questions and discussing things. That is why it is called a forum. It is NOT actually designed to promote “for profit” clinics (check the guidelines). The organizer started the thread to promote the clinic. Ok… We get it, and didn’t cry foul, but she should certainly accept the resulting discussion.

This is NOT Eventing Nation, which has become more of a promotion vehicle for ULRs and star gazing, than a source of eventing news and interesting opinion. John barely posts anymore and the drooling articles are getting tiresome (I rarely go to the website anymore, which is too bad, as it once was a daily visit).

Get over yourself. People have the right to question the clinic. If the Organizer doesn’t like it, perhaps this in not the correct place to post it.

I’ll be there, live and in person!!! I can’t tell what groups are what, but I do know that if I were riding, I’d be applying. But since I’m not, Morningside is 30 minutes away, and I’m friends with a majority of the crew there, I’ll pay my $20, bundle up, prop the gimpy leg up, and blog away, if you all would like.

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying this show. ;)
It’s good to hear you’re out and about! I would like to hear about the clinic.

Yes please blog about it! And hopefully they can set up a little space heater too…you are not allowed to get sick on top of a gimpy leg.

ACME, get a Roomba.

A little reluctant to wade in, but reading between the lines, it sounds as though the auditors will far outnumber the riders, and the organizers are “casting” the groups to make for an interesting auditing experience. Not necessarily a bad thing–usually auditors are more of an afterthought–plus it brings a lot of people to the facility.

It’s not the most efficient way to fill a clinic, as the cryptic announcement means that people who are unqualified/can’t afford it will waste time writing applications, and the selection committee will waste time reading them. Without knowing what mix they are looking for, some qualified people will probably not apply. But I’m sure you can fill a WFP clinic in NoVA a million times over.

I don’t think the questions for clarification of the groups or cost were inappropriate–those are normally provided when a clinic is advertised, or if not, when clarification is requested. But it sounds like this post was more about encouraging auditors than riders.

sorry double post

If I fall off the roomba I’m totally blaming the alcohol. Wouldn’t it be convenient if I was wearing my helmet cam? Heh heh

Omg! LOL I love that the cat and the duck have matching costumes!!! Hysterical!

Yes - well said. No one is forcing anyone to participate - or not. Nice strategy and planning to bring WFP to the U.S. - congrats. And if others want to do so, it’s a free market.

Hope the clinic is great.

And the refusal to give even ballpark pricing makes me wonder if different riders will be charged different prices, depending on who you are/how much star power you bring.
Not to mention that I know for a fact that certain riders are automatically allowed into the clinic without needing to submit an application. (OTOH, I believe they’re not getting a discount on the clinic fee, from what I’ve heard is going to be extremely pricey.)
