William Fox Pitt Clinic

I’ve started a thread on H&H asking about WFP as clinician.
http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?633219-WFP-as-Clinician&p=12049822&posted=1#post12049822

Not many responses, so perhaps he doesn’t do many clinics in the UK either.

That is a non sequitor if I ever heard one.

… his Olympic/4* experience does not automatically preclude him from teaching lower level riders.

I does not PRECLUDE him from teaching lower levels.

But it does not mean he would be any good at it either.

See my earlier post.

My guess is that if WFP requested not teach below training, then he has self-selected the levels where he feels he teaches best as a clinician for this clinic.

I can’t find the post about the choir of angels singing when his plane lands at Dulles, but if we really want to create some excitement and eventing news, his COTH fans should gather at Dulles with signs and books to autograph. We can all scream hysterically with joy when he clears customs. Think about how it was with the Beatles in 1964 on their US tour. We can recreate it.

It was I that posted about the angels and my first reaction to your post was THE BEATLES first coming here. Can you imagine all of us screaming and fainting; the entire airport would rush over to see who it was and demand autographs without even knowing who he was:lol: It might not have the same visual as the Beatles since a number of us are umm, well lets just say old enough to remember The Beatles getting off that plane. . .

I am sure we could organize a throng of screaming, fainting, crying COTH women, Eventer 55. We might even get support from EN and Morningside to do it. I was around when the Beatles came to DC, so I know exactly what to do.

This is cracking me up, IronwoodFarm! We women “of a certain age” remember this “seminal moment in history”, but now there are silly pre-teens screaming (and fainting?) for the trashy likes of Justin Beiber. Blech :-/

I have contacted the organizer about auditing (she sent me a very nice e-mail response), but I haven’t heard back from her since this morning; I e-mailed her just now worrying about the 8:00 PM deadline, and added that I figured she “must be getting besieged” by last-minute Lou-ees (ahem cough guilty…)

Has anyone else signed up? She said you need to pay in advance, but didn’t elaborate on how to do this. Getting nervous since I don’t want to miss out, here.

Ironwood ; Oh, that would be funny! No one would understand what the fuss was about. I hope you can make it happen.

I would guess that WFP has a good sense of humor…

Wait…we have to pre-register 2 months in advance for auditing? I thought that was just for riding?

But at least COTH lived up to her reputation and those outside of the circle have much to chatter and chuckle about. Heard some of this last night. <sigh> I played dumb and had my usual puzzled look, “COTH, what is COTH? An upper respiratory symptom?”
hmm…the COTH bandwidths are inundated with wild, hilarious thinkers that aren’t afraid to voice the opinion. How dare they have fun, question, and perhaps make a bit of an example out of a poorly planned event  If you intend to market on this Upper respiratory infection - best be prepared for questioning. It’s not EN - the UL Rider marketing machine that’s loaded with enough hyperbole  & behind-kissing you want to - COTH  Its a useful site, but, unfortunately I find myself skipping to hyperlinks & other useful tidbits more often than not…

And how about WFP - on Running Order - a horse alluded not to be ‘good enough’ for the US (per EN reports) will be interesting to see how that relationship develops.

Amanda, you are of course correct (just confirmed via e-mail by the organizer :), I am just a bit of a worrier…:stuck_out_tongue: My bad. (Yes, that would have been a bit over the top!)

Look forward to seeing you on the bleachers, you will surely be more “mobile” by then–ready to drink it all in and then blog about it  I think we should form a “COTH group” so that we can all hang together in the same section. Maybe someone can bring a flask, it’s likely to be a bit nippy by then.

I also emailed, and I don’t believe we pay yet. We just need to let her know. I am guessing there will be many auditors.

Yes ^^, I think that’s the main thing…

I hear the organizer has signed up a local microbrewery as a sponsor so there’ll be a beer tent for auditors.

Wow, first of all I am shocked I tell you shocked at the civility shown after 5 last night. I was sure I would wake up to a huge padlock on this thread, you people must have all been terribly restrained

Second, "behind-kissing, hyperbole on EN. . . ??? How will the coverage be for WFP?

Of course this means that if I want to “imbibe”, I won’t be able to give a ride to my 15 year old student (who is also attending), her mom would have a meltdown. :sigh: Not that I would be drinking more than a beer or two.

LOVE this idea, though!! I’m thinking maybe “designated driver”?? Now, to find a willing volunteer…

Dr. D, if they have a winery tent available, I might come along with you. In fact, I think they should offer sherry. I really like sherry. I just don’t drink beer. IF Jr. does not drink and he is a good driver. Fortunately he has been a drag along to so many horse shows that he won’t mind too much.

That being said, I strongly disagree with those on this thread that state 3* and 4* Riders don’t (or shouldn’t) coach lower levels. There are many, many proven top level riders that have no problem teaching lower level students, and do it extremely well.

I have been tremendously fortunate to have both a regular trainer and clinician (his long time coach who is well known on this board) who have both ridden at the top levels of the sport, and are very willing to work me at the lower levels. Their passion for horses, eventing, and teaching are very special qualities not necessarily automatically granted, just because you win at the top levels of the sport.

Learning from the best you can find is the way to go. In my experience, the hot ticket of the moment, isn’t necessarily a good indicator.
I mostly meant a clinic with up downers being taught by a 4* rider is a bit silly. Yes, learning from the best is awesome, but there are basic things that should be learned BEFORE a clinic with a great rider. Time in a clinic shouldn’t be wasted teaching people basic things. A private lesson? Sure. A clinic? No

Oh JER, you and your silly ideas. I’m working with wineries at the moment. Virginia, especially that area, is a large wine producing area so it only make sense. Also planning on having a food truck out for those who don’t want to schlep coolers and repark cars.

Morningside never misses a beat!

Beer AND wine?!? Wow, I should definitely find myself a designated driver!! Food would be good too–if only to soak up the er, “beverages”…

IronwoodFarm, I’m a Chardonnay girl myself, though a good microbrew is also one of my favorite things.

This sounds like it has all the makings of a PARTAY. I will reiterate my suggestion–nametags with our COTH screennames.
