Love! Love! This mare!
She never fails to thrill. You could tell she wasn’t as comfortable with this distance, but man she sure kicked it in at the end.
Winx’s closing sectionals for this race: last 600m in 32.33s, her last 400m in 21.27s and her last 200m in 10.79s. Impossible to beat if you’re running those times - and she did on the worst part of the track where no other horse was able to win from any other race on the program, at a distance that is not her best.
Mark your calendars
The George Main on September 14 (Friday night for us) is her next target.
Then one more (forget which was on her program last year) and then an unprecedented 4th Cox Plate.
Would not be surprised if this is her last race season (just my opinion only, haven’t see any comments about retirement). She’s been a joy to watch
Love her too!
Did you see the video they did where it showed she took so many more strides a race than the other horses? Was interesting.
Do you have a link? Would be interesting to watch. I can certainly see that when she hits the top of the lane and really hustles to win
Could you share the link please
That’s really interesting. Thought for sure it was her stride, too - especially as Winx and Zenyatta are both by Street Cry. And both known to come from behind. Or because she can “push other horses to their top gear early”,before she’s in hers,
Jealoushe,
Thank you for sharing that.
What is with the nasty comments on some of those links? Stuff like, “She couldn’t beat a US claimer!” Geesh, folks (not COTH folks) look at the times!
Tomorrow night (USA time)
I haven’t seen US post time yet…
Tonight 10:10pm PT on TVG
Colgate Optic White (George Main Stakes) G1
Got my fingers crossed she ticks another box off.
Winx by 4!!
27 wins, 20 G1 in a row.
One more prep race TBD before the Cox Plate.
My heart is my in throat every time I watch her run. Bowman settled her last and started her patented move up around the far turn.
Amazing!
On her twitter account there are short video clips of her entering and leaving the venue walking untacked. Interesting to look at her–lovely walk in a plain brown package. Just seems to be put together for efficiency, not glamor.
Looks like the Turnbull Stakes (G1) at Flemington October 8 may be the next start leading up to her attempt at a 4th Cox Plate (G1) win.
I absolutely love this mare. She’s just so unassuming looking, yet she sure shines bright once she’s running.
Wondeful character.
Yay for another one! Missed this one live, but a reminder popped up on FB yesterday afterwards. Had to run and find the replay.
She’s just a big reason to grin.
She is but every single time, now that I’ve gotten hooked on watching her, my heart is in my throat watching her running style. She broke mid-pack and Bowman took her back to last until getting ready to straighten out for the stretch (and he did say he was a bit concerned with the pace up front and started hustling her a bit sooner than usual for the distance).
Then takes her a bit to get rolling but once she does, she is amazing. As MTHBWM noted… a plain brown package but what a package

More info on her and her trainer, jockey, owners etc. Amazing mare!
Winx’s final prep before the Cox Plate is the Turnbull this coming Friday, 10/5.
Time when I see it
