She is on the news. They say she is feeling well and looking good. She is going for her 30th win in a row and one betting firm is going to give 3 times the win if she wins. I guess that will equal to not much as otherwise they will go broke!
All I gotta say is this mare makes it look easy.
30 races in a row! Winx by maybe 2l in front.

Back in two weeks in the Chipping Norton (G1).
Last year she didn’t run in the Apollo as Bowman was serving a suspension and won the Chipping Norton. This year she’ll have the Apollo under her belt before the Chipping Norton.
Love to watch Chris Waller (trainer) get choked up when he talks about Winx.
Love this.
And she ran pretty darned fast. 1400 meters, about 7 furlongs, in 1:20.88. (7 furlongs = 1408 meters)
Her stride turnover when she makes her move is astonishing.
Does anyone know if in Australia they start timing at the break, unlike the U.S. when they start timing at flagfall? If so, that time of 1:20.88 is even more impressive.
Thank you all for keeping me up to date on this wonderful mare. Well done Winx, and congrats to her connections!
If I won the lottery, my first trip would be Down Under to wait for the next one.
There are a lot of "horse in a lifetime"s in recent years - and she’s right at the top.
@CVPeg , better hurry up and win that lottery. She supposed to race again in two weeks at the Chipping Norton (G1)
Sounds a bit like the Apollo was the freshener and to make sure she still liked running. I’d say she answered this question. Also sounds like this may be her last season and she’ll be retired at the end. No mention that I saw if she’ll be aimed for another Cox Plate or not. I suspect that may wait until the connections see how her season develops.
Asking this out of complete ignorance - how come this mare has never made a trip the US for any of the Breeders Cup events? I feel as if there are always horses from overseas in those. Is she not nominated, perhaps? How does “down under” racing compare to US (i.e., how good would she be over here)? Doesn’t sound like it would ever happen for her so really this is just a curiosity question.
I believe Winx’s connections have felt that racing her in Australia and then sending her to either Europe or the States wasn’t something they wanted to pursue. She’s never raced in Europe either. The timing just doesn’t mesh between north of the equator racing and south of the equator racing. It’s also a long trip and the quarantine on return back to Oz has to be considered.
I don’t really think that not being BC nominated is the deal; you can nominate late, it just costs more.
Last year there was a remote possibility that the connections would send her to Royal Ascot but decided not to.
You do see horses from across the pond or Japan/Hong Kong shipping in for BC, but I don’t really many, if any, from down under.
She has traveled within Australia and has raced at tracks that run both directions (clockwise and counterclockwise). The connections seem to feel that is enough.
Phar Lap

"Phar Lap dead: collapse in California."
I didn’t consider the long commute, so to speak, and that makes sense to me for one that’s coming over for one or two starts. I guess more what I am wondering is, is the level of competition different there v. here?
I have a long history in the harness racing realm, and I will tell you - the Australian/NZ import market is huge! but it’s mostly horse coming over here for good. And a lot of them do really, really well over here. There are multiple shuttle stallions as well. But I guess no horses coming over for one event. And obviously it’s a different racing scene on the STB side.
Let me be clear - I am in no way trying to diminish Winx’s accomplishments. I have watched her run and she is clearly no joke. I guess just as someone outside of the TB racing “know,” where she ranks worldwide?
I get the impression that her connections value Winx’s health and well-being more than anything. They know how awesome she is and don’t need to prove it further afield. Cheers to them all!
Most recent world ranked race horse stat that I could find…
From Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings in early November 2018.
Both Winx and Cracksman top-ranked at 130. Gunrunner was ranked 3rd.
And we haven’t forgiven or forgotten.
This Friday (US time), Winx and Happy Clapper will face off yet again in the Chipping Norton Stakes G1 at Royal Randwick.
Now they are offering triple the winnings if she wins again.
I’ll be home this weekend for a visit. Only get 3-4 channels via antenna at my house in the middle-of-nowhere - but it includes Capital District OTB!
I’ll be gone until late this afternoon but will be checking TVG to get US time for post.
Looking forward to seeing that she can keep her streak alive!
Race #6 at Randwick… about 9:45pm PT.
She did it again!!! Love watching this mare.
