Mid Atlantic here and I’ve always known “dry lot” and “sacrifice paddock” to have slightly different meanings. A dry lot is barren year round and is generally smaller than a sacrifice paddock. Usually used for turn out of the quintessential air-ferns and chubby ponies so food can be strictly monitored. A sacrifice paddock is large enough for the horses to stretch their legs and usually has plenty of room for a round bale or two.
The difference (the way I learned it) is that the “dry lot” is to protect the horse. The sacrifice paddock is to protect the rest of the pasture from getting trashed when the weather is bad.
Why should MH have to uproot her children and leave? She is engaged to the owner of the property and it was their residence long before LK ever got there. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not she is a good mother. Would you pack up and leave if a squatter decided to take up residence on your property and not leave?
Lauren Kanerak was not a squatter, she was a client who came to live on the property.
At a certain point, that becomes tenancy, at which point there are legal steps that have to be taken to evict a tenant.
I realize legalities and landlord-tenant disputes are unpleasant realities for many of you, and yet laws exist for a reason, and you don’t get to shoot your tenant to get them out faster.
You wouldn’t think this would have to keep being repeated, and yet, here we are. Again.
Here in the PNW I’ve never heard the term drylot probably because none of our drylots stay dry 8 months of the year. We are in a metro area where even the rural exurbs show barns often don’t have pastures. If they do it’s May to October only or you just have a giant field of bare earth and buttercups.
If you had a place with these facilities you would have pasture/ field, you might have small and big paddocks, you might have turnouts, and you might have run outs. You might differentiate between a crusher dust paddock and a hog fuel paddock and a sand paddock.
But I can’t imagine looking at any enclosure that is guaranteed to have standing water in it at least 6 months a year and calling it a “dry lot.”
I think too the logic of sacrifice paddock is that there is grass to save. If you don’t have pasture to save then the term is meaningless.
They are both useful terms in context, they just aren’t the ones we use locally and I only learned them on COTH!
”‹”‹”‹
Growing up in the pnw, we definitely used the term dry lot, but maybe that’s because I grew up in the pony community, where the need to “dry lot” is more common.
I would hope the physical and mental wellbeing of children would take priority over ones right to be on the property just because one was engaged to the property owner.
MH already uprooted and moved to New Jersey from North Carolina. At what point does one worry about the kids?
It was MB’s attorney who used the term “squatter”. She did not pay rent and was considered a guest at one point.
This argument has been rehashed many times on this thread. She told the world she was in fear for her life but refused to leave. Many of us find that Interesting.
BTW, no one has indicated MH’s children lived there full time have they? I believe she shares custody with her ex-husband.
I am willing to speculate that on at least one occasion when the police were summoned by Kanarek she was advised to leave. Probably told to seek a restraining order too but if that concerned, to grab bare necessities and leave.
That is a very interesting change in your approach to this thread… when nothing you have posted previously was even remotely considered to be dangerous to the continuation of the thread… so what was so different about that last post?
Many pages ago you spewed a lot of details we had not heard before and then to cover for that brain fart insisted it was all in the thread further back… when that was not 100% correct. As @Jealoushe and others (including me) have opined, you appear to be far closer to this incident than you are admitting - and have been very disingenuous about that.
The tap-dancing and game-playing in this thread tends to impede the actual discussion…
The deleted post in response to ladyJ said “I’m not the only one. Time will tell”. We are at the point where people legitimately don’t want to say what they mean. Basically your suspicions as well as mine are on point, hence people jumping through hoops about them.
It doesn’t matter in most jurisdictions if she was a guest IF she had stayed there more than 30 days and/or received mail there. At that point a guest is treated like a tenet in the eyes of the law in most jurisdictions.
If I were to tell you I was in the back of MB’s dually when he raced up to the house to have a shoot-out, would that make you happy or change anything? Nope, it wouldn’t. My identity is of no concern whatsoever nor is whether I was there or not. How is that “disingenuous”?
And please refresh my memory…what exactly is “the actual discussion”? Sacrifice paddocks?
I see. Yet more neener-neener I Know Something You Don’t Know games. That got old 200 pages ago… and none of that helps anyone’s “case”…
It is disingenuous that you have constantly fluttered your eyelashes and feigned innocence and then practically crowed in delight about your inside info - and occasionally shared far more than you should have. You are close to this - and no one has asked for your identity in any way… but kindly stop playing everyone for fools. We are not as stupid as you seem to think we are…
Ah yes, I see the thread title is Sacrifice paddocks in NJ. Thanks for the reminder. Not a common term here in the PNW - where dry lots is indeed the usual term. How on earth did this thread stray into trying to discuss a dressage-related shooting??? Back on track, people!!!
To keep the “actual discussion” going, I am retiring from this post until more pertinent information is available to comment about. Perhaps the arraignment will happen soon and more details will be available.
The earlier posts on this thread indicate things went bad really fast, within a week. LK posted her first FB rant about MB on a Thursday and the shooting was the next Tuesday. And I am sure no one imagined that outcome. That doesn’t leave any time to make plans to move children. If the conflict was inside the family, yeah, get to a shelter ASAP. But if the conflict is between the family and a tenant or neighbor, people don’t generally flee with their kids.
Supposedly LK was living in the same house and things publicly escalated in a week per LK’s Facebook posts. People here have said LK was jealous of MH. MH was also from NC. Sorry, but if I had kids I would have been gone at the slightest indication of drama. I also find it hard to believe that MH wasn’t aware of LK’s shenanigans being from the same state.
That reminds me of another discrepancy in the Times article, which made it sound like things had been going downhill for a long time. As you say, the whole situation seemed to devolve in a very short time. It seemed like LK went from singing MB’s praises on Facebook to calling immigration and child protection services in less than a week.
With NFL games in progress today… and even though I am not wearing a striped shirt…
throws yellow flag and blows whistle
15 yards for taunting.
My limited posts in this thread and the resultant tiny foxhole in the so-called sandbox pale in comparison to the massive sandcastle ramparts some have erected and the extra truckloads of sand they have brought in… not to mention the red flags on the turrets.
