World Cup 2015 Las Vegas hotels

I decided to stay at ARIA because I’ve been wanting to stay there and the pool is lovely and large. It’s also close to the MGM to hop on the shuttle.

FYI, for those who have not been to Las Vegas, the city is NOT pedestrian-friendly. Crosswalks are few and far between, it’s dangerous to cross the Strip… I can’t even imagine one could walk to the Thomas & Mack Center safely either.

LJD: They are running a shuttle from Bellagio. That would be closer than MGM. Walk over to Vdara next door and there is a walkway to Bellagio. Or you could hop on the monorail at Crystals and ride over to Bellagio. The VIPs are staying at Bellagio so you will probably run into them on the bus.

I’m staying at Aria next month for the first time.

Ahh! You’re right. I thought about the Bellagio - cheapest rates I’ve ever seen there, but ARIA won out since it was $100 less per night.

Does anyone know what South Point is like?? A friend and I are trying to join a group going (and staying at South Point) but I’m kind of more of a Bellagio kind of gal as is she, lol.

Is South Point decent??

The South point is very clean, and very nice. Their customer service is wonderful. It’s not as “high end fancy” as the Bellagio, but it also isn’t a five mile hike to get places.

I would stay at the South Point in a heartbeat, and there aren’t many hotels here I say that about.

You can, and it’s safe, but it’s a looong walk. Distances are deceiving. They’ve added many overpass walkways in the past few years, it’s a lot safer now. You most certainly can walk places in the strip area.

You cannot, however, walk from the South Point! Lol!!

(Just tying my two posts together!!)

I’ve walked from Paris to the T&M Arena many times. It’s not the most enjoyable thing I’ve done in LV but it’s certainly not dangerous!

Speaking of, the email Rich sent last night includes Paris rates (smoking good rates, at that!) for the event days. Their website says they’re sold out; if you’re interested in staying there, contact Rich directly.

I considered Aria and Mandalay Bay, but settled on the Embassy Suites.

The last time we walked pretty much everywhere. Our hotel was a good 30 minutes from T&M by foot. There was a back way in through a university that cut some of that off. IIRC, the hotel was in the opposite direction of the strip from T&M.

My group is staying at Hard Rock. :)[/QUOTE]

Well we are staying at the Alexis Park Hotel now  That was pretty affordable and I figured that we could spend more money for fun things  And I think its right across the street from the Hard Rock. So I hope I still get the chance to meet you and some other COTHers

Absolutely!!

Thank you propspony! I certainly like the prices at South Point better.

I think that’s what we’ll plan on.

For anyone who has been to World Cup before, how long are the finals on Sunday? And how much time would I need to get to the airport? I’m trying to figure out how early I can book my return flight. I don’t have a car so would be taking shuttle or cab to airport. If there is a better forum thread to post this on, please let me know. I’m an infrequent COTH user and can’t figure out how to start a new thread. Thanks!

I don’t recall how late the finals have gone in past years. However, the airport is essentially across from the T&M (give or take a few streets) and is literally right smack in the middle of the city. So, it won’t take long at all to taxi there from your hotel. (Provided you stay reasonably close to the strip)

To give you an idea of just HOW close, I took this picture a few years ago waiting to board my flight. I’ve made it from my front door to my gate in under 20 minutes.

McCarran is, HANDS DOWN, my most favorite airport in the world.

Thank you, propspony. Anyone know length of finals? Specifically whether a 5:30 pm flight would work.

I seem to recall the freestyle day being short–two hours? They’ve got a lot of jumps to set up by 7pm on Saturday so I think you’re perfectly safe with a 5:30 flight.

I think lauriebeth is talking about the jumping final on Sunday.

You are correct, Joann. I am talking about the finals on Sunday that begin at 12.

Oops–sorry! Isn’t everyone dressage-centric?

Got my flight and hotel! Woop Woop!

Do tell – what hotel are you staying at?
