World Cup Las Vegas 2020

I talked to my shipper this morning. Everything is very up in the air. They seem to think that things will smooth out in a few days once everyone gets their hands around the new rules, and some shipping will go on before the 30 days are up. It’s just too early to really know much yet though.

Maybe the horses ship, but we’re still missing a couple really important other things: the riders. and the grooms/judges/whatever.

I know I kept saying that 1+ month was too far to know, but seriously, if we have a flight ban going into effect for 30 days, there is just no way to make this work. Why haven’t they canceled yet?

I contacted the UNLV ticket office today re: World Cup in Vegas and their current status is there are no changes to the event as of yet. They said currently, the policy remains that there are no refunds if you opt not to go. Their direction was to check back in a few days/week and see if there are any updates.

Absolutely shameful. Every other major sport/entertainment is canceling left and right. I love y’all, but the thought of spending several hours daily for up to 4 straight days next to someone who may not even know they are sick is just idiotic. Plus there is no guarantee that this travel ban (admittedly stupid) is going to be lifted. Why would the rest of the world even want to come, given the disastrous handling of everything so far? They need to get their shit together.

It must be costly to cancel.

Given the Olympics are likely to be canceled or postponed, I wonder if they are trying to find an alternate date to postpone rather than cancel.

I wonder just who they expect to compete? The travel ban effectively bars the majority of competitors.

I mean, it could be pushed out a month. That would probably work. Canceling would just cancel, no hope of a 2020 WC. I get nothing yet. If NV decides to ban large gatherings though, then they’ll be forced to make some sort of a decision quick.

I would imagine the majority of horses and riders are already in the US but I could be wrong. That is part of the beauty of Wellington and the like

No, the majority of the top European riders do the indoor World Cup circuit in Europe.

That would be great, but is venue available? Hotels? Peoples flights? Vendors? Seems like it would be a logistical nightmare. It’d be great if they could pull it together, and hotels didn’t price gouge, etc.

The last World Cup qualifier in Europe was scheduled to start today in 's Hertogenbosch (Netherlands). It has been canceled now. So anyone who was scheduled to show at this World Cup Qualifier is in the Netherlands currently, not Florida.

I see. That’s too bad, I was really looking forward to it, we had such a good time last time.

I think they will wait to see what the Olympics decides to do. Glad we have Delta flights.

There you have it. The 30-day ban takes us to April 14th. No time to arrive, settle, show. :frowning:

Exactly, so why not cancel and just get it over with. Their lack of response is just embarrassing. Yes it’s expensive, but everything else being canceled is expensive too.

UNLV would be taking on a huge liability to proceed with holding this event given the travel bans as well as CDC and WHO guidelines.

Again, they may well be trying to reschedule instead of full cancellation since the Olympics will likely be cancelled. That takes time.

Disney World and Disneyland, two of the largest single-day revenue generating locations in the world, are both closing for weeks and Disney Parks will continue to pay its employees- over 70,000 in Florida alone. UNLV/World Cup don’t even know the meaning of costly compared to that.

Yes, our interests are small potatoes compared to what has been wrecked so far.
